It seems Bob learn the lesson from Green Lantern and is keeping his expectations for this one at bay, (and he should, cause no matter how good it is, there is no way is gonna be as good as all of us have been dreaming of since... forever (EPISODE 1 suffer from that also, and the fatc that it was genuinely bad didnt help either), same issue whit batman 3, there is no way in hell is gonna be better than Dark Knigth, NOT possible even if is AS good still it has some humongous "legendary performance by dead actor" shoes that is not gonna be able to fill)

No it is NOT, sequels, prequels and remakes are a grave simptom of the lack of originality and general lack of courage of hollywood to try NEW things, at least crossovers will force then to come out whit a lot of potentially cool concepts (underworld/resident evil crossover sign me in RIGHT NOW) (obviusly JLA is gonna be in the mind of the entire universe if AVENGERS makes at least half of what is expected to make in BO, and whit the new superman movie coming next year theyll just have to make WonderWoman in 2014, Aquaman in 2015, Green Lantern Reboot at 2016, Batman Reboot at 2017, and finally JLA at 2018, and for gods sake dont cast any douchi actors like Edward Norton in any of them to mess your final ensemble)

The intermingling of characters and plotlines from what originally were separate continuities isn't so much The Future as it is a return to storytelling before copyright laws only with a lot more legal maneuvering that needs to be done to get the stories out there.

What were stories like Jason and the Argonauts or Sherlock Holmes vs. Arsene Lupin but classic cross-overs?

I wonder if there ever WILL be a Hulk 2 movie... I mean, apparently, Thor and Captain America are getting a sequel, and Iron Man 3's on it's way, but not the Hulk? Well, it wasn't the BIGGEST box office success, but who knows, maybe The Avengers will change THAT as well...

Considering they tried two Hulk movies so close together I don't doubt we'll see a sequel if the Avengers does well.

Just watched the Avengers. Sorry to say this, but the movie has all the excitement of playing a game in God mode. With no character development, a pitiful antagonist, and a contrived plot, it is just non-stop special effects. Not to say that the special effects are not awesome. If you are a fan of Transformers, watch the Avengers.

Predator (1987), Arnold Schwarzenegger?s rescue team is sent to Val Verde ostensibly to rescue an American politician.

Supercarrier (1988) the USS Georgetown commanded by Capt. Henry K. 'Hank' Madigan (Dale Dye) docks in Val Verde just as civil war breaks out.

Die Hard 2 (1990), General Ramon Esperanza (Franco Nero) is from Val Verde.

I hate it when seperate series suddenly pretend to be in the same reality, because it never makes sense, and it's just an insultment to 1 or all of the individual series.

Only person I had to explain to her was Coulson. Drew her a diagram linking all the films together the day before, and telling her the important plot points and people. She ended up enjoying The Avengers so much she wants to see the other films. Best. Girlfriend. Ever.

Just watched the Avengers. Sorry to say this, but the movie has all the excitement of playing a game in God mode. I disagree, it is really hard to say anything specific without spoiling major bits of the movie but this was FAR from a special effects-fest a-la transformers. Most of these characters already HAD their development as characters in their own movies and now this movie is about taking the characters that have already been established and developed and putting them in a new adventure (which is where the comic-book continuity style comes in real handy). And even then you can still see changes in them based on how they react towards eachother. The Avengers has splendid writing (thanks to Joss Whedon I presume) and all of its heart lies with the cast. The interactions are spot-on, the characters bounce off eachother perfectly and the movie manages to be absolutely hilarious without feeling at all forced or contrived. I can totally believe that every one of these characters really WOULD make every joke they make in the entire movie, and every single funny line or action is delivered with perfect timing.

The plot may not be a masterpiece but it certainly isn't contrived at all. There isn't a single plothole or out-of-character moment in the entire movie, and they manage to deliver excellent explanations for all the more complex schemes without feeling like they grind the movie to a halt.

The interactions are spot-on, the characters bounce off eachother perfectly and the movie manages to be absolutely hilarious without feeling at all forced or contrived. I can totally believe that every one of these characters really WOULD make every joke they make in the entire movie, and every single funny line or action is delivered with perfect timing.

I still disagree. Loki was a pretty damn good villain I think. He is the god of trickery and deceit, so it makes sense that he isn't very powerful as an individual. His true strength lies in the mind-games he plays on the entire team and he actually seceeds in that aspect of his plan, which makes him seem like a very legitimate threat even if any of the avengers could take him down in a fair fight.

I don't get what you mean by the challenges being contrived, and it's again difficult to make arguments without spoiling anything for those who haven't seen it yet but I for one thought every step of the way made perfect sense given the personalities of the characters and the situations they were in. It made sense that certain characters would have the information others needed and that other characters would fight eachother when their personalities clashed.
