Can someone tell me what Bob didn't want to spoil about Mortal Instruments?
Seconded. Too lazy to look it up, the series looks like a decent clusterfuck.
Here's the very short version:
The main character is a (seemingly) ordinary teenage girl who falls for a magical demon-hunting guy. Turns out he likes her too and they have a bit of a smooch. At the end they discover that they're actually brother and sister. Ouch.

Half brother and sister from the father's side so at least there won't be any problems if they have kids (that only applies if they had the same mother or there mothers were siblings).
Yeah, but the Wikipedia summary implies there's a whole tragic "We've fallen in love, but we can never be together!" thing going on. Just to compound the melodrama, their shared father also appears to be a Very Bad Man[sub]TM[/sub].

Conversations entirely in spoilers: Generating mystery on the Escapist forums since 2005.

Is it just me, or do some of those movies sound like they might actually be interesting for a male audience...

I liked "The Host", though I thought the Twilight Books were pretty good too (except for the 3rd one). They were a fun ride and I didn't really understand all the backlash. I'm no literary connoisseur, I just like being entertained.

I thought The Host was actually well done and certainly kept me engaged until the end. I thought immediately upon finishing it that it would make a great film, so I am glad to see it is being done (and from the looks...done well).

How come Bob didn't mention the Hunger Games Series? It not supernatural, but has that weird love triangle stuff and most of the action of the other movies.

Actually they are full brother and sister. Same mother, same father. Father took off with the boy after faking both their deaths, mother took off with the girl to get away from the world that took everything from her.

Searching about the twist on MI:CoB I came across this quote:

"As readers of the series, we know how the story plays out. We know that they aren?t brother and sister. (http://tmisource.com/2011/05/17/lily-collins-talks-about-clary-and-jaces-controversial-relationship/)"

Dunno if it's true though...
they are not ________ and ______, by blood, father adopted him do to guilt over his experiments, however she does have a ________ by birth. All this happens in the 3rd book.
So... The plot TWEEST of this awful-looking movie/book series is that the MC and love interest turn out to be brother and sister... except they don't, because a later book rescinds this, making it an irrelevant piece of bullsh*t drama fodder meant to draw attention to a lack-luster series?.... Lovely.

And for all the people out there saying 'star wars did it!'... Yeah, no: the brother/sister pretty quickly got out of make-out mode upon learning they were related in star wars.
In this series? Ha, they're still making out, even when they think they're brother and sister. Classy.
Rather a big difference between unknowingly kissing your sister and knowingly making out with your sister because your boner for her is JUST THAT HARD.

I couldn't be less interested in the Twilight-formula-ripoff Constan-tween flicks, but... half-angel implied incest?
Really?
That's where we're going to add some spice to our love triangles now?

Oh, and for the sake of education...
This?
Half brother and sister from the father's side so at least there won't be any problems if they have kids (that only applies if they had the same mother or there mothers were siblings)
Yeah, no.

Autosomal recessive disorders occur in individuals who have two copies of the gene for a particular recessive genetic mutation. Except in certain rare circumstances, such as new mutations or uniparental disomy, both parents of an individual with such a disorder will be carriers of the gene. These carriers do not display any signs of the mutation and may be unaware that they carry the mutated gene.
Since relatives share a higher proportion of their genes than do unrelated people, it is more likely that related parents will both be carriers of the same recessive gene, and therefore their children are at a higher risk of a genetic disorder.
The extent to which the risk increases depends on the degree of genetic relationship between the parents: The risk is greatest when the parents are close relatives and lower for relationships between more distant relatives, such as second cousins, though still greater than for the general population

I thought the Hunger Games was the new hotness for "young female focused" mass media giants. They are gonna juice that sucker into a gillion movies more then it should be. So I'm surprised that wasn't even mentioned, except for that its the current and not the next big thing.

This must be the webcomic you're looking for: http://hijinksensue.com/2008/11/12/30-days-of-twilight/
Yep, that's probably it. Hijinks Ensue is a webcomic I read regularly so I have at least seen that one.

I must Nth the "why no Hunger Games mention" crowd, imo that is clearly the most obvious successor. With a $600M opening, it's pretty much there already.

Can't imagine any of those other supernatural romance books being worse than Twilight.

All is forgiven, all I ask now is an ancient Egyptian deity romance flick. Like... Not-Bella and Anubis hooking up to preserve cosmic balance against Lovecraftian horrors.

Bloody hell, suppose if you want anything done properly, you'll have to do it yourself...
That already exists. Read the Kane Chronicles by Rick Riordan. Awesome, funny, and a girl that genuinely ISN'T Bella falls for Anubis.

OT: I genuinely liked "The Host" ( like to think of it as Twilight done right) and with a director that actually does good work I think this could turn out pretty darn well. The sad thing is that no matter how it turns out it will probably never change all the negativity from all those who treat Meyers writing career as the end of literature. For God's sake people, she wrote a sub-par teenage romance series and got lucky. Will you stop slandering her already?

Why make a zombie movie if the zombies aren't going to be ZOMBIES? It seems like a pointless and self defeating premise.

I love how everyone just comes together to rip on what the teenage girls like. You may not like it, it may be badly written, but that doesn't mean you should you diss it. Everyone likes stupid shit when they're teenagers and even if they still like it into adulthood, what's it matter to you? Don't like it, ignore it.

It just pisses me off a tad whenever I hear nerds complain about getting bullied or teased for what they like then turn right around and bully or tease others for what they like.

I don't understand the point of getting upset or annoyed with what other people enjoy when it doesn't interefere with your life more than having to watch a movie trailer from time to time or see the books on a shelf in a store.
People say they bash Twilight because it's "badly written". You have lots of "nerd classics" like Transformers that were really badly written too, but it's okay to like them in nerd culture. Go figure.

Actually i LOVED The Host as a book. yes the writing is annoying and slow like usual, but i loved the ideas in it and thought it was a very interesting plot. I think it was much too smart for twilight fans and non twilight fans didn't read it which is why no one seemingly liked it.

But yah, and btw, Hunger Games is kinda like the next twilight. except not quite the same of course. less pure chick appeal.

Yeah, it's done for shock value of "so taboo!"*, but I get ecstatic thinking about what would failed authors use for shock value once this thing gets stale. (and it will get stale quickly)

"Jim (the arrogant jerk with the heart of gold) falls madly in love with Jane (emotionless blank slate), but just as Jim was about to go for the steamy homerun, he found out that all this time Jane was - A DEAD DOG!"

The cynical side of me says you were trying to shirk on Thanksgiving week and decided to make a Big Picture out of the trailers showing before Breaking Dawn pt. 2.
