PC RAAAAAAAAAGE!

Nah, I'm cool. I understand what Bob is saying and he does have some valid points, but I seriously doubt a tablet (a watered down version of a laptop) is going to replace my desktop PC. To be completely honest, though, I never really cared about portable devices.

I dont see devs making games from their ipads... I don't see consoles doing anything more than playing the games the pc does...

I see the pc doing EVERYTHING in my life, and let's face it, a word document is not as easy without some good ol' keyboard and mouse...

PC gaming is not dead, just like console gaming is not dead, until steam stops informing me of the millions of people online I cant see how pc gaming is dead... and screw phone games, why does everyone have a smartphone and love all these little minute-waster games anyway? I can see the fun in some of them, like infinity blade, but nothing seems as deep or rewarding as playing with some sort of button interface...

I guess simplification in the name of progress...

For the people thinking the PC is going to die...

Are you posting in these forums from your Playstation, Xbox or Wii? Or do you prefer the 3 inch eye-strainy-vision on your phone?

Yeah, I thought so.

Yeah, I thought so.
Because gaming is exactly like posting on the internet.

Way to miss the point: you can do so much more with PC.
The only reason people buy consoles is for exclusives, or because they are cheaper in comparison to a gaming rig (even though games cost a fortune).

Consoles are a waste of money unless you really really want to play some new and terrible Final Fantasy game.

People were saying PC gaming has been dead for years now.

They have always been wrong. They will continue to be wrong.

PC games are easier to make, and modify and improve. New companies always make their first games on PC because its easier to distribute. For example STEAM. Those indie games are sometimes ported to consoles but the PC gamer always gets the first, and more vital input into the games quality and direction. The developers will always want to hit the widest market and not everyone has a PS3/360/Wii. More people HAVE computers.

As for the Hardware debate. In no way shape and form can your phone, your laptop or your console provide the same high fidelity experience that a modern desktop can.

Desktops have better visuals, audio and overall performance. Heck the basic gaming desktop of today is easily a generation ahead of the console. [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/7.247185-Crytek-PCs-Are-a-Generation-Ahead-of-Consoles]

If graphics, sound and data storage did not matter, we would all still be playing Space Invaders.

Edit: Corrected generation gap and provided a link to the article. My old memory is not as good as it used to be.

Don't forget that the PC is where all the indie companies start because its EASIER to develop on and its EASIER to distribute, and because its easier for developers to do that the games will become cheaper because the barriers to entry are damn near nonexistent.
Moviebob has obviously never taken an econ class.

You've some good points, but however, The billions of things that make up a task force to do everything one PC can do is sort of... OBSOLETE? We try to mix everything together onto one machine so we can easily do day to day things, and have counterstrike pulled up in the next window. Email- Runs faster on my PC than it does on my Cell Phone... Hell, I only use my cellphone to check email if I'm away from a PC for a long time. Internet- My cellphone has it, though it is slower than my PC.

Well, lets look at all of the mediums.

Cellphones- They can do a lot of awesome stuff, search the internet, download things, reply to emails, but they only have one major use for me, A MOBILE PHONE! I hate how it has such a short battery life, and I prefer sticking to a wired PC any day.
Tablets- These things are expensive and pointless, it is just a bigger version of you smart phone! save money and don't get one!
Laptop- I concider these PCs, only because they have been around long enough to go through what a PC has gone through. You can do everything properly on one, they are just to be held in your lap. I still prefer a box that sits in the corner of my basement that never has to be charged, always stands at the ready, and can do countless things more than a smart phone or a tablet can do. (As mentioned before, they never have to be charged, unlike a laptop)

To me the PC is and ALWAYS WILL BE far supior than those pocket held phones, or those giant pointless tablets. 2 reasons, it is everything in one, and it never has to be charged. (Unless their is a power surge, then it is nice to have a laptop)

Hey, I saw this video on MovieBob's blog, and I figured I'd share it with everyone here... And give Bob another chance to see it:

Well done Bob. Your awesome video received well over a thousand comments. It's hilarious!
You gotta wonder, though: when will PC gamers admit they're inferior to console gaming? PC gaming is suffering a long, noisy death, it seems.
Ah, who am I kidding? PC gaming is inferior, but it'll stick around because people are still around to support dedicated PC gaming, games will continue to be made/ported to PC, and it'll co-exist with their console cousins.
...for now.

1) MovieBob is like the Norman Osborn of the Escapist. Mostly he will write sound and informational pieces, but sometimes he forgets to take his medicines and reverts back to the Green Goblin. Trolling everyone with pumpkin bombs in the shape of videos.

2) PC's are not becoming consoles, consoles are becoming PC's. Phones are becoming PC's. Laptops were always PC's, but maybe more of a PC-light version.

PC's are not dead.
PC gaming is not dead.
3) And I will never watch a Moviebob video again.
1) This was arguably his worst since he vented his spleen on "The Expendables" a flick many if not most of us thought a hoot and can't wait for a sequel (this time w/ Chuck Norris please!)

2) Very true... posted earlier that PS3 actually had some trouble in Europe: do they classify it as a toy or a computer.

3) Don't do that to yourself. The vast majority of the time, he is a very entertaining guy. I think he was just wrong in his thinking on this.

I wrote earlier that all that made any sense in his post was the concept that increasingly, we won't be setting aside a special place in the home for a traditional computer. Maybe, but again, that doesn't mean PC is dead. I built an AMD Athlon 2 X4 for less than the launch price of a PS3, with bluray player, all the functionality of a PC and can play most games 30 FPS, but set it up in an entertainment center. Wireless Keyboard, mouse go into coffee table. Microsoft even makes a wireless controller for the PC looks like the 360 one.

And it's not exactly like it'll get better when new studios that are being set up, are set up.
PC Gaming is just plain dead.
Ok, here's the story. Games get pirated on PCs. At least until DRM became accepted (and I facepalm every day how customers could let that happen, but that's a different story). Console games on the other hand get a lot less pirated which is like a big GO HERE sign for the industry. Once the console market gained momentum (Hi, Asia!) game companies switched their production process to consoles as their development platform.

But I do not only think PC gaming is much more alive than Bob thinks, I think it is much more alive than the game industry thinks. Casual games like Beat-em-Ups, Racing or Mini-Games with a motion controller are perfect for consoles, hardcore gaming is not. Just look at the games where competitions are held for: Counter-Strike and Starcraft.

He has a point, although I tend to agree with people that say that consoles are slowly becoming PCs.
But then are they PC games or console games?

Okay, two things:

Firstly, some of us out there don't have a tablet PC, a phone with access to teh internetz, GPS distance meters for golfing, the 3DS, laptops, photo printers, or even LCD monitors for our 'puters. In fact, the very large percentage of the internet browsing population don't have any of those things, which is why HTML5 is going to ruin the internet for the rest of us; but I forget that if it's not highly visible in modern America, most Americans don't know it exists (or doesn't). (A butter churn? WTF is a butter churn?!)

I guess those of us who don't make more than 25K a year don't get to ponder on such extraneous wastes of disposable income; we're just too busy trying to enjoy our syrup sandwiches and wondering if we're going to make rent this month. Maybe some people need to go back and read Seuss's Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are?--it may be the only vehicle the unempathetic sophists can use to understand how good they really have it.

Secondly, when I can play LotRO and have the GECK on my console, and all DLC for any cross-platform release is equally available on all platforms, THEN PC gaming will be dead.

you are not a heretic, you just don't know what you are talking about. with a standard MAC being able to process graphics 4 times faster then the leading console, and STILL holding unrivaled FPS and RTS experiences over consoles, personal computers wont be gone for a long time. why would you want to use 7 devices when you can use one? why would i use my ipad for flash animation or photoshop when i can use my mac? because it is easier, and more intuitive. while tablets and consoles have their place, p.c. will always dominate their fields. consoles will as usual control the market because people don't have the money to buy a device with the power of a nice p.c., and tablets will be nice for the people who don't need to do all the power hungry tasks that you would use a p.c. for. id say 10 years for a tablet to be able to preform on par with todays high end pcs. id say NEVER will consoles EVER be able to match a p.c.. while Microsoft and sony are refusing to move away from disks, steam will always be a far more efficient and freindly-and cheaper way to shop. cloud computing is a joke, by the way. maybe that was just me being old fashioned and basing my views on logic beyond what is dead and what isn't.

Microsoft even makes a wireless controller for the PC looks like the 360 one.

he is simply uninformed.
