The Canceled Division 9 Was Left 4 Dead Before Valve Did It

Sounds like a cool concept, but honestly I think we get a better deal out of left 4 dead.

First of all WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THAT MOVEMENT SPEED?!! I get they want to create a feeling of horror where you can't escape the horde but JESUS CHRIST.

Also I understand that their trying to create a feeling of suspenceful horror, but as anyone who plays Left 4 Dead knows once you've been though 2 or 3 campaigns you know almost exactly what the zombies are going to do and it stops being frieghtening, it doesn't help that your mate is talking bullshit while you play. Where as with l4d from that moment on it just becomes a frantic race, with this game I imagine it would have become tedious as hell, once again jumping back to the movement speed.

I have to say though the concept of having a base and having to go out for supplies in a sandboxesc game is one that I find very interesting. Personally I wouldn't mind if someone made a Left 4 Dead mod or game mode that was simular to this.
As I understand it, this would be an actual GAME. Meaning, you don't play it fifty times to convince yourself it was worth buying like L4D. You play it once or twice and get a real effect from it.

In other words, the slow movement thing wouldn't be as bothersome because you would have other exciting moments to counter-balance it. Exciting moments like real horror.

I would've preferred this over Left 4 Dead, Bioshock, Halo, and probably any other game I can think of. It looks awesome.

Although, frankly, the zombies look rather lame... But I'll blame older graphics and early development stage of this video or something. It'd be interesting what it'd look like with more updated graphics.

Plus I'm not a big fan of generic slow zombies. They're fun, but they're also not that threatening in a game setting, and it gets boring killing them over and over again. I prefer specialized zombies like in L4D... Not only you can play some of them, they represent different kind of threats every time instead of just shambling at you slowly and saying "braaains" until you shoot their heads off.
Slow moving zombies have never said "Braains", it's the fast moving ones who have.
Look up "Return of the Living Dead".
That's an argument exactly how?

There is nothing threatening about slow zombies in a video game environment. Had it been in real life or in a movie that at least tries to be realistic, they would be only slightly threatening just due to the fact that you can't stay on the move 24/7 - and sooner or later they would catch up, given the generic "99% of humans are zombies" approach and the fact that they hardly need any rest or, for that matter, food, if you think about it. It's just a general "you can't run anywhere because you're locked in with the monsters who you'll never be able to wholly defeat" idea that makes slow zombies semi-threatening.

In games, that hardly applies. Slow zombies are just fodder, and hell, if they're anything like Half Life 2 "zombies", you can strafe around them all day, never being hit.

Also, wasn't Return of the Living Dead movie about how generic "evul military!" created zombies using something like... marijuana smoke? And there were all the punk kids fucking on the graveyard? That movie was hilarious, old zombie movies are nothing but comedy.
Play Resident Evil and you'll see that Slow zombies are proving a threat.
Fast zombies are not a threat. They are nothing but annoyence of screaming monsters. If I wanted something fast, I'd play a game vs Xenomorphs. Yes, the slow zombies of HL can't grab a hold of you either but imagine if they could. Sure you could just strafe around them all you want but eventually you would be grabbed by one due to your own cockyness.

But judging from what you're saying..
I guess that you probably hated the old Resident Evil games :/

Return of the Living Dead was a craptastic comedic zombie movie that captured the zombie-spirit at the start of the movie but when the actual Zombies showed up, you kinda wished that the movie never was made.. "Braaains" and running around as well as being virtually unkillable.

I'd recommend the old Dawn of the Dead or Night of the Living Dead instead. Slow zombies and people barricading themselves in places.
This might be the dumbest argument I've ever seen. It's all relative to what your character can do. If slow zombies were in L4D, there would be no threat. If fast zombies (i.e. Crimson Heads) were in classic RE, you'd shit your pants everytime you saw one (and you did and still do).

The same applies to movies. Look at Shaun of the Dead- they were able to run around the slow zombies like they were nothing. These are FICTIONAL universes and the threat level is determined by what abilities the creators give to the protagonists.

EDIT: By argument, I was referring to exchange between the two of you. I wasn't saying your actual argument was lacking. I just quoted you and not the other guy at random. This post sounded harsher than I intended. Sorry. : /

No one is adressing the inevitable problem the idea they had faces - and probably while it is cancelled.

Say your colony has lots of food and you don't really need ammo right now. Water is in good supply, people have started to regain spirit and your defenses are strong.

Now what? Food eating movie watching sim? There needs to be a constant reason to go out of the safe haven... It could be done if your job is to keep stock up for other survivors (non-combatants). Without reason to go take on the horde, though, it fails to be a game.

This game looks pretty cool, and certainly different enough that I don't think they would even compete with each other. L4D is a sheer action game with a few scary trappings. This looks to me to be more like Killing Floor with Sandbox mechanics instead of special infected. If they made this, I would buy it. If they walked faster (My god, glacier is definitely the right word, those characters might as well have walkers).

Also, Slow Zombies became boring to me the moment fast zombies came along. Nostalgia and game balance (For video Games)are the only reason slow zombies haven't been kicked to the curb.

See, I would have bought that game. Looked pretty fun, and I'm sure it could keep itself fresh long enough to warrant purchase.

You know, if you walked faster.

hmmm. I think it would be neat if someone would pick this game up and update it.
