Sorry to hear that.
I don't know about major robberies and stuff, I've only had experience with muggings (thank goodness not first hand, but friends have) and its always been groups of people egging each other on.
Its really quite depressing to know that something you worked for (or even were given as a gift) can be lost because of someone else's greed and lack of empathy :<
