You know, I'm starting to agree with people saying that some jokes go "too far".

Yes, I get it was a joke, yes, I understand that there was no harm meant, yes I kind of get that it was all in good spirits. But come on, a Christian bashing on Christmas? There is a place and there is a time for everything. Some jokes are in bad taste, and this is one of them.

Maybe Muslims have a point by being overly aggressive.

The way people use the ≠ symbol is to mean exactly what the person you quoted meant, that Catholics are not Christians.
I disagree. In my experience apart from mathematical usage ≠ is used almost exclusively for situations where the distinction makes no difference (eg, cat ≠ dog, where a cat is not exactly equal to a dog and a cat is not a type of dog).

I definitely agree with your point about general usage guiding meaning, but the problem with that rule is that general usage is very hard to pin down in discussions like this. People can have completely different perceptions of how "everybody" uses it, like we obviously do here.

So, Catholic ∈ Christian?
Catholic ∈ Organized Religion?
Yeah. I think its not technically very good math speak to use a normal word as the name of the set (you would say more like "X = {Catholic, Protestant, Greek Orthodox}"), but thats the general concept.

I don't see the big deal, and why this got so much attention. People make jokes about religion, big deal. I'm a Christian and I think it's funny.

Also not all Christians go to church, I do not.

-

Also for those commenting about the whole Christian/Catholic thing, the strip mentions a Priest. That usually means Catholic, as a Protestant faith would have a Minister.

-

As far as someone commenting on "understanding why Muslims are so aggressive", understand something: while I hate to be so dark and serious, one of the reasons why I'm so hardcore about breaking that theocratic culture is because I believe they need to grow up (and are capable of it). Religion is not generally a reason to start fights, or kill people, if you get upset to the point of threats or violence because someone makes a joke like this, or even draws a picture of Muhammad or whatever, that's a problem. Being able to roll your eyes, laugh at yourself and your own beliefs from time to time, and fit in with the rest of the world that might not agree with you is part of being civilized and a part of society.

If you are deeply offended, pray for the forgiveness of whomever made the joke.

That was disappointing, I come to this comic for unconventional humour I don't hear all the time.
I'm disappointed, though I love the LoL comparison, the schtick about witch-burnings, and religious judgement is really old and it always sounds exactly the same to me.
I've met religious people like that, but they're a minority, they're just the loudest ones on issues because most religious people aren't overzealous enough to give a shit and make their voices heard with anything other than votes...

So funny to see Christians getting SO butthurt over a small dig. It was a pun people. It was hilarious too. Good on ya guys, keep up the great work.
As far as I can see, there's only 2 Christians that were slightly annoyed and one overbearing antagonistic guy. There are more LoL players defending their case in this thread than Christians, sooo....
It's because the makeup of this form is predominantly Atheist
and it being a gaming form and LoL being as crazy popular as it is.

So as strange as it sounds there are probbly more LoL players then Christians here

Catholics are Christians.
/=/ means 'not'.

So, by your very post you were saying either 'Christians aren't Catholics' or 'Catholics aren't Christians'.

Way too get pissed over nothing, bro.
Actually, the formal logic for does not equal is '!=', which is what should have been used. The more you know.

OT: Loved the art in this one, nice job Leona.

Yeah, I'm aware. My response was more towards the general demeanor of his remark, y'know the smug, pre-assuming "gurl, lookadose Christians. So grumpy." attitude comics like this tend to attract in communities like this one, often-times before the butthurt-ocidy even really appears.

This instance was especially annoying since, like I said, most of the defensiveness is coming from either The Tall Nerd or LoL players, so it struck me as weird that he'd make a remark like that.

Yeah all those crazy Muslims (what's that you say? Most Muslims aren't overly aggressive? Shh...) have a point. Let's each get a "Freedom go to Hell!" sign and burn some embassies.
But seriously, does any of you get that you're not really meant to symathize with Erin in this strip. Her attitude is clearly childish and pictured as such.

Edit: You also forgot to end it with: "Your insensitivity has caused me to leave the path of peace. Now, nothing holds me back. I'm coming to get you Rydell and Carter...I'll get each and everyone of you! MUHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
You clearly still have a lot to learn!

Hah.

The community has gotten better though, seems the bans have picked up and are weeding out the worst scum.
As someone who's played since the 20 champion beta, I promise you it has gotten worse.

Heh, nice one. I've heard good things about LoL, but I've also heard the community is one of the worst around. That, and my general disdain of MMO's is mostly what's kept me from checking it out.

Side-note, who was her hallucination of?
Leona. New-ish character, but you don't see much of her because she's a tank and everyone wants to do that dee-pee-es.

http://leagueoflegends.wikia.com/wiki/Leona

She's actually one of my favorite characters because she's one of the few characters without ridiculous cleavage all up in your face, and when played properly she can shut down/disrupt a whole team. Chain disables like a mother.

This.

Eh...this is one of those cases when the strip is trying to say something, but I have no idea what it is. A take that at LoL...a take that at Christians...should I be offended?...I'm so confused. I guess this is one of those "are you laughing at me or with me," things.
The joke here is that the League of Legends community is as fanatical and judgmental as the church. You may or may not agree with both stereotypes, which may or may not affect how funny you find the comic.

That's impossible. The LoL community does not openly (or sometimes secretly) loath people who play other games. :p

This thread gives me a headache. It looks like people who can communicate only through image macros are competing to show how clueless they are in every discipline from sociology to mathematics.

I hope some dev makes an idiotic exclusionary remark soon because even people saying that C&G must be trolling for holding a sensible but unpopular opinion are better than this.

There sure ain't priests in my church. And not many virgins, either, for that matter. Baptist ftw.
As for the comic, well, my above statement probably says it all. Ignorance doesn't make good humour.

On a side note, isn't the Escapist's forum policy meant to be one of accepting cultural diversity? And yet all of their contributors are free to make whatever cultural commentaries they want, for better or for worse. Hmm... I sense a double standard.

It's cute that she still thinks Priests are virgins.
In the traditional sense of "must have penetrated a vagina", perhaps.
Well, all told there is no basis to assume they are virgins. The vow of celibacy, even if taken (and upheld) is not taken at birth. One isn't born a priest as they say.
