The 'Dame' thread.

This is very 'off topic'.

My Escapist pal, Richard Groovy Pants, and I were having a discussion in the Escapist IRC chat (It rocks, cool people go there) and we realized something about the word 'Dame'.
It's awesome.

Not only is it awesome, but is it the escapist version of the word 'Smurf'.

Some of you may be too young, ignorant, or drunk to remember the TV show 'The Smurfs': The used the word 'Smurf' to describe things...of a sorts.

For instance, instead of saying: 'Rade! (There is your mention!) Those are great pants!'
You would say: 'Rade! Those are smurfin' pants!'

Except we aren't smurfs.
We are Escapists.
Therefore: 'Rade! Those are dame pants!' or 'Rade! Those pants are dame!'

So I would submit to you, in the damenest way possible, that dame should be put into regular rotation as a 'whatever' word.

To you all: Let the dames begin.

EDIT: You can't remove the E from Dame. Dame is a whole unit. The E is needed. English be DAMED!

Excellent questions.

The point of dame isn't to oversaturate the forum with this word. It should be used properly. Once per sentence, really. Two max.

And it always must have d-a-m-e in there. No removing the 'e' for 'English' sake.

And it's pronounced like a 50's private eye novel. Dame: as in a woman.

'Smurf' is funny because depending on how you use it, it almost sounds vulgar. It's a nonsense word, but because it almost sounds vulgar, it doesn't have to make sense.

'Dame' is not funny, because it doesn't sound like anything. In addition to being used inexplicably. And being moderately sexist.

Maybe I'm missing something. Is this a Brit accent thing? Or an Aussie accent thing? Maybe that makes it funny.

If we're going to make up meme fodder that confuses outsiders, I for one am all for it. But I think we can do better than 'dame.'

Sorry to be a parade-rainer. But seriously. Let's steal something better from Yahtzee at least.

"I totally smurfed her" sounds better than "I totally damed her."
