The "Dragonite Dad" meme made me sad... how is your relationship with your father?

and now he REALLY wont pay attention ... what with being a member of the undead "when I was still alive"

my dad used to build go karts for me and my brother (wood ones not the motorised kind) and even got hold of some molds and made us some tin soldiers.

My dad is dead.

Sometimes I bring it up just to make people feel awkward.

Ive always had a good relationship with my father. Which is a good thing because he probably won't be alive this time next year. He has battled almost every illness under the sun (including cancer) and isn't getting any younger. I love my father though. That meme did make me a little depressed though as I wish I had more time to spend with him.

I seriously don't get memes...this one in particular.

I have a good relationship with my parents, but my dad's one of those dads that you don't see much, so you kind of drift apart from. The love is there, but when you see someone for a few weeks a year, it's hard to not notice the huge gap in development. Doesn't get my routines and habits and such.

To be fair though, he's away working, not on some massive alcohol binge. We wouldn't have this problem if money lasted longer, but as is money that should have lasted years barely makes it a few months.

That's right, I'm now blaming the prices in Australia for forcing my father away.

I never knew my dad. The closest guy I had to one was pretty cool, though. I just hope that I can be half the dad he was.

Miss ya, bud.

I have a great relationship with my father, but this meme just makes me feel terrible.
Excuse me while I go have a beer with my pop.

Trust me the gif is doing a fine job of that. I don't even know why, but it's freakin' me out.

That meme is sad...

But I don't have a good relationship with my father.

He left us on my 5th birthday and it just gradually deteriorated from there with ups and downs. My brother says I've just barely reached the stage he'd been on in our younger years when I was still young and foolish. Anyway, I pretty much don't want anything to do with him really and I basically avoid all contact.

Dad died in 2001, when I was 11. At least most of you have one ._.

I still get along pretty well with my Dad, we talk at least once a week so we are still on good terms.
We don't share a lot of opinions, but that's never really been too much of a big deal.

Reading through some these other responses people have put kinda makes me glad that there hasn't been a lot of drama between us.

I have a pretty good relationship with my father.

He works a lot, but, when I was younger, we used to spend time together, make legos, build computers, you know, that kind of thing.

These days we generally talk about RTSs and the issues in the world.

For the unaware:

I was never one of those spoiled brats who took their parents for granted, but for a variety of reasons which I won't go into my dad and I do not have a good relationship. I wish I could fix my relationship with him, but ultimately both sides have to want it to work in order to make any improvements, so it's not gonna happen.
Well, how do you know he doesn't want to have a better relationship with you? Maybe he's just scared. Or concerned you might pull away and you'll be even more isolated from him. I'm not saying this is DEFINITELY the case, I'm just wondering.

As for me, I have a mostly silent relationship with my own father. I'm sure if I went to a therapist of some sort, they would tell me that I have a very broken relationship with my dad, and that's probably true, but it works. A few years ago, I really wanted things to change, but I hesitated because I didn't know if that's what he wanted to, and so I never did anything to try and fix things. Now I just try and do things to make him proud and make sure that he notices. I'll never forget the day (my dad absolutely loves shooting) that my dad looked at me and told me "you're a damn good shot." He didn't have to say anything else, I understood. And for us, it works.

This meme makes me sad and, for whatever reason, the Dragonite is only making it worse.

After reading this thread, I truly am grateful that my relationship with my Dad is as solid as it is. Sure, we may differ in political and a few religious issues now, but we still share a lot of interests. Back when I was at home, we'd go see the same movies, share books and music, heck, he got interested in playing Mario and Guitar Hero with me for a time. He even helped me with my math classes when I was in grade school.

And coincidentally, we're going to be meeting up tomorrow. No chance in hell I'm missing that.
