The "Dragonite Dad" meme made me sad... how is your relationship with your father?

Wow, that is a sad meme. And it's popular for the same reason that there's a whole crowd of us that can't look someone in the eye when Cat Stevens comes on with Cats in the Cradle.
I like this one better. It's the one me and my dad always used to listen to...

My Da died when I was 17 and even though 20 years have passed I'd still put a bullet in the base of the skull of the lot of you just for the chance to talk to him again because he was my Da and one of my best mates.

Me and my dad are on pretty good terms. For one thing the two of us play Magic, We're the only two in our immediate family that plays golf, and I'm also the only one other than him at the house that has any interest in sports.

That's one of the saddest memes I've ever seen.

My dad and I are pretty close. We're similar personality and hobby-wise, and he was the one who got me into gaming and sci fi and stuff.

I used to think we were too different to get along.

Now I'm starting to realize we're too much alike; both lost in our own little worlds.

Why do I get the feeling you could replace the image of dragonite with a sponge or a teddy bear and the message would have made just as much sense for the former and more sense for the latter?

OT: My dad and I are just fine. Been that way for a while. Can't say the same for my brother though... long story there.

It's not suppose to be a funny meme. Basically, Dragonite dad wants to just hand out with his son, or do something together, but his son doesn't care too much for his dad.

I'm on meh terms with my father. We have nothing in common and don't really spend too much time together. I don't exactly hate him but he can be a real prick sometimes.

The meme confuses me, because it's not funny, it's just depressing.
I personally have a pretty good relationship with my father, I've tried to be there with him a lot and we've done a lot like fixing up my car and motorcycle together.
It's supposed to be Cathartic I think.

cool getting ur dad into PvZ. Hope it gives you guys a bit of a common ground to build from.
Yeah, I got almost the whole family in on it. Even my 4 year old brother likes to click around on it and do some stuff. He managed to beat the first 4 levels by himself. As for my dad, there has been a little bit of a connection. Discussing strategies leads to talking about other things in life, so yeah, it's been working out better than I hoped. It just sucks that he doesn't do much for fun, and I thrive on things that are fun. Like I said, opposites.
that's cool. my dad was rather odd. he had no friends and no real hobbies. he liked to do things i guess and would start projects around the house and stuff. Then he would get mad at me for not wanting to help him. He only socialized with his family, so his brothers were the only real friends he had.

Yeah...why did this become popular again? Its not really funny
one of the biggest rules of internet memes is that they don't have to be funny. They just have to catch somehow. This would probably end up in a bawww thread rather than a funny thread.

Ok, that's scary, you just described 90% of my dad. He doesn't have any brothers (only 5 annoying-as-hell sisters) and he is rather friendless. He is quite social with people that would be best defined as acquaintances, but I've never ever seen him invite one of his "guy friends" over for dinner or anything. He just doesn't have anyone that he's that close to. He is still madly in love with my mom after 28 years though. I guess that's all he needs. I guess I should be happy he hasn't shot at me :p

My dad passed away when I was nine, so I never got a chance to really develop a relationship with him...but on the bright side, I also didn't have to go through the sullen adolescent "fuck you, Dad" phase---the only memories I have of him are the halcyon days childhood kind.

When my nephew was born three years ago, my brother gave our dad's name to the kid as a middle name. The funny thing is I'd planned to do the same thing with my firstborn son---and my brother and I never talked about it. We came up with the idea independently. He was seven when dad passed on.

My Dad was in prison for the first two years of my live and was a heroin addict until I was 11 He was also arrested in front of me when I was 8 for drug possesion. I was never mad at him for any of that stuff that happened and he is The best dad ever. I saw him him mostly every sunday(cause he didnt live with me and my mom). He was always good to me no matter what I did and we still have a great relantionship. He even acted like a father to my older half brother since his dad ran away when he was 3.

In short my Dad made mistakes but fixed them and has been an awesome dad since I was born.

I have a terrible relationship with my dad, because for the most part he's a pathetic, arrogant asshole who has the patience and tolerance of a five year old.
