I hate living with the knowledge that our governments want nothing more than to to control the flow of information.
Alright folks, let's put this puppy to bed:

The sole reason I'm not a member of the (alarmingly) growing masses of "Anti-Sec" (Note: People, better names, PLEASE) hackers is because while there are many powerful people that would love nothing more then to control information, the set-up of the internet will never allow that to happen unless it is taken down for good. Now how many powerful people would really want to be responsible for the downfall of modern society in many countries? We live in an age where everything is discovered, announced, and saturated within minutes of occurrence. Public outcry and participation in governmental action is the only real action that needs to be taken, outright attacks on installations "for the good of freedom" almost poops out the foot it eats, there IS a great deal of evil inherent in any system, but it can all be flushed out if we all work for a better tomorrow instead of letting others do it while we boot up another game/movie/song.

Now if you'll excuse me, my soapbox is on fire.
Read the rant with enjoyment and sympathy. Read the closing remark with a giggly splutter of tea and have no idea why. Jsyk.

God I hated Lulzsec. They're deluding themselves if they think they did good. In their mad quest to expose corporations, they damaged the lives of thousands of people. That's like saying you stopped a bank robbery by firebombing the state of Rhode Island.

I think everyone who works with computers is sad to see them go. I hope the anti-sec movement continues through independent hackers. Perhaps eventually we'll be guaranteed a free and secure internet forever. I hate living with the knowledge that our governments want nothing more than to to control the flow of information.
Question: How is attacking gamer networks to steal access information of everyday users, passwords (and possibly credit card info) and then posting it on the web for anyone to grab making the internet free and secure? I'd think that just makes web browsers/gamers afraid and just hands the reigns of control over to hackers rather than any imaginary, western, spooky shadow government you all keep going on about.

How about attacking Chinese censorship? How about Russia, Australia, Singapore, f**king Iran or Syria to crusade against their tight government control of ALL communication and information? Oh that's right.. because that would be dangerous and our brave heroes can't be in danger from people who wouldn't just give them a slap on wrist if they get caught now can they?

This is another thing I don't get about the gamer/forum community.. you guys fawn over people who are out to humiliate, vandalize, and attack YOU. your networks, and any web related service or product you use with no reason other than "for teh lulz".

I take it you don't have a bank account, have never had your identity stolen, and your social/address/phone number or financial info about you or someone you knew posted for others to do with as they wished?

Because that's the only reason i can think of as to why all these young people are cheering these assholes on. They're not helping in the passage of free information.

In fact, the people they went after (U.S and U.K) were pretty relaxed on internet information and web freedom.... now they've given even the most liberal governments an incentive to give the issue attention where is normally wouldn't have been discussed.

Well said, put far better than my own ridiculous rant.

Schadenfreude. Plain and simple.

This along with the concept of "owning" or "pwning" someone in video games to be funny and part of life itself after a while creates the beast that feeds Anonymous, Lulzsec, and the bunch. People love it, paint it in some heroic bullshit and BOOM, no shame in supporting them.

Until someone points it out.

Just so you know, Sabu, the leader of LulzSec posted this on his Twitter:

anonymouSabu The Real Sabu
@LulzSec Good work my brothers. 50 days of unstoppable action. Now onto #antisec irc.anonops.li for another 50
3 hours ago

Which would indicate to me that it's only just begun. The other tweets of his saying "this changes nothing" would reinforce this, and i am more inclined to believe the words of Sabu than that of Topiary, who runs the PR for LulzSec and runs LulzSec's twitter account. Jester claims to have the upper hand at the moment, but he's just one man. We'll see how this plays out.

What a bunch of convoluted bullshit! My guess is now that they've incurred the wrath of REAL hackers they've decided to cut their losses and bail.

Good riddance. Those guys were a bunch of assholes.
What's with your avatar? It would seem like you support them from that.
MY AVATAR IS IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH THOSE OTHER TOP HATTED/MONOCLED GENTLEMEN OF WHICH YOU SPEAK, AND DOES NOT WISH TO BE PUT IN THE SAME GROUP AS THOSE HOOLIGANS.

But yeah, I've had this avatar years before I even knew what lulzsec was. I just like top hats and monocles, they add a sense of sophistication to just about anything.

I don't really know or care too much, for it's just in time so Sony can get their network fixed back up in time for me and my friend to play little big planet together online with girlish giggles.
That said, I got to admit, I think some people missed the point of why they did a lot and you know what - I will kind of miss them.

Bullshit to the end. They wanted the spotlight, ruined fun for others, all while trying to have the "greater good" show. They finally pissed off too many people, one of them got caught, other hackers (I use this loosely as they weren't even real hackers) destroyed them, and they played it all off as some sort of plan.

I hope the government, or better yet, someone with true retribution, finds them.

Question: Is Lulzsec anything like Anonymous? (Forgive me if this question sounds idiotic)
Not particularly. Anonymous does what they think is right, LulzSec just pisses people off because they can.

OT: I doubt they're gone. And even if LulzSec itself is gone, someone else'll take their place. They've started something and it ain't gonna go away, and it'll probably just get worse.

Um, so how many times do we have to post that they aren't really gone before somebody actually reads it and stops posting smug self-satisfied statements? Dude, they're still out there hacking away. This isn't real. They said it was fake on their twitter, which is the their main form of communication.

As for the group's leader, he sounds like he has a superiority complex that he decided to head a group of amateur script kitties.

I'm kinda sad actually, other hacker groups were so close to releases more info about lulzsec and some of the anon assholes.

I'm sad too, the terrible other hackers were embarassing themselves. Wanted more of that, before this story no one had even heard of thejester or team poison. People are laughing at those 2 now.

did anyone check to see if they were in any of their hacked accounts? It says that they took people's accounts from random gaming websites. I'll go check if mine is there when the lame torrent finishes.

edit: noppeee

Yes ^^ that's because they prefer to be unknown... me thinks you might be a lulzsec fan ;)
It's best that people stop talking about lulzsec... they're gone as a name.

The other groups I actually prefer, at least they have political/set goals and positions... i wouldn't count on them reaching into my pocket while feigning the whole "us against the man" bullshit.
