I hope so. Although how good and secure the legal requirements are? Better go an extra mile as the risk of PR disaster is too great?Abandon4093 said:As far as I knew they did everything that was legally required of them.MaaZeus said:Abandon4093 said:Don't be so naive all of your life. There is NO ultimate hacker deterrent. If someone good enough really wants to get into something, they'll do it.
Maybe. But that is not the point. The point, to my understanding, was that Sony was very lackluster in their protection. The first line of defense was propably good, but after hackers got in they had everything on their hands. Not even basic encryption on personal information. (like address etc...) I may have understood wrong but if this is so then *facepalm*.
So basically this:

OT: Sony will recover, if they don't you know who gets back in the game?
Sega
There's no law specifically saying I can't kill stupid people either. But.. it's beside the point - you're required to do such and such to prevent fraud, along with reporting details if it happens. And Sony has been less than forthcoming with the information, and apparently kept banks and so on out of the loop just as much as the rest of us.Abandon4093 said:There is no law that states your database cannot legally be breeched.
Right now there are other console manufacturers so I doubt even the collapse of Sony would have much of an impact on the genre. No differant than say the SEGA or Nintendo systems having gone from juggernauts to fading into obscurity. The only thing that is going to change the way gaming works is the progression of technology.ThongBonerstorm said:So, with this whole mess coming to light over the last little bit, how does everyone think Sony will, if at all, recover from this? are we looking at the end of Sony, or, at least the Playstation aspect of it?
And if this is the end of Playstation, what do you all think is in the future for console gaming and production?
Well hold on, "all their other markets collapsed" is not the same as "gaming gives them more profits than their other tech".Ultratwinkie said:Yes. the profits from the console are basically the lion share of their profits. However, the console market is drying up. Sony's console wont last very long.Woodsey said:They'll give everyone some a few token freebies and that'll be that.
The class-action lawsuit won't get anywhere.
Err... are you sure about that?Ultratwinkie said:Actually their other markets collapsed. They rely on the PS3 now. However even that market is drying up fast. I predict around 1-2 generations left.Safaia said:Um, last time I checked Sony didn't rely on PS3 sales exclusively. They make a lot of products.
Everyone seems to have forgotten the cluster fuck that was the first generation of 360's.Dirty Hipsters said:No, this isn't the end of Sony or the Playstation brand. If Microsoft was able to keep the xbox 360 going strong even after all the bullshit that happened with the red ring of death (2 of my consoles died because of it), Sony can get through this.
OK then, sources please.Ultratwinkie said:Exactly, their markets have basically collapsed into themselves. the only one holding up is their console. Once that collapses sony will be in trouble.Woodsey said:Well hold on, "all their other markets collapsed" is not the same as "gaming gives them more profits than their other tech".Ultratwinkie said:Yes. the profits from the console are basically the lion share of their profits. You offend me, sir! The contracts my firm provides clearly state we are dealing with "pest control". And I swear we're trying to make the world a better place for everyone. And I swear my intentions are good. Surely this means I'm not breaking any laws?Abandon4093 said:Yes there is, in America it's called 'Murder in the first degree.'
True. The point is that what they're required to do is specific, and gives us a guarantee that losing the info isn't necessarily a huge problem. Or at least possible to control afterwards. You seem to misunderstand how the law works. There is nothing that states Sony is responsible for any possible intrusions. The only way they can be held accountable for the hack is if you can prove negligence on their part.
They're required to try and prevent intrusions. Not guarantee they will never happen.
Exactly this. If the same happened to Nintendo there'd be a much higher risk of them going out of business since games are their only industry, but Sony and Microsoft both have tons of other sectors to back them up.canadamus_prime said:I highly doubt this kill the entire company. Sony is very huge with it's finger in many pies. Although this could possibly be enough to kill their video game development, but I doubt it.
Sony is like the Hydra, cut off one head and two more grow in it's place. A lot of multinational corporations are like that come to think of it.
