Hah! Babies on spikes, classic Eddie Izzard :) I wanna make a short film now.
Yay, someone got the reference! :)
Hooray! I was right in thinking that was an intentional reference and not just you going mad!
In addition, is Eddie Izzard not just plain brilliant? Hard to track down a live show (The man's a ghost!) but well worth the effort just to see him in person.
Saw him on the Circle tour. Faaaabulous. :)

I hope something as awesome as Unskippable comes out of this festival. Just wondering, though, is only the overall winner guaranteed a contract, and not the category winners?

Off topic, I think it's hilarious that after having Funk yell at everyone about no porn there's a thread a few updates ahead that is three pages on the merits of including fake breasts with a porn games.
Only the overall winner is guaranteed a contract, that is correct BUT there is always the possibility for multiple contracts due to great work. That is what happened to Unskippable and Doomsday Arcade last year.

I've learned something today.

Exploding kitty cats is more rude then putting babies on skewers.

Thanks The Escapist editors!

Rules wise how many video submissions are we restricted too? and what do you mean of age? how old is that?
There is no limit on number of entries.

"Of age" means the age at which someone can legally consent to be photographed in the country/municipality in which the photographing is taking place. This varies, so we can't specify an exact age. It is also sometimes possible to grant an exception is the person is under age and their guardian provides consent, but as the filmmaker it is your responsibility to know the rules and be able to provide necessary signed consent forms if required to do so.

Typically this rule will not need to be bothered with, but if you're working with minors or people who can be reasonably confused with minors, it pays to be strict about staying on the "not a pedophile" side of the law ;)

I've been brewing a concept for this moment...sadly, I am only 14, so I am lacking in funds, and age. If only I were 4 years older, at college, and had friends who would act for me.

Excellent. I hope we get something as good as Unskippable and Doomsday Arcade again!

Though I doubt I'll participate; my cinematographic skills are somewhat lacking.
Same here. I think I'd be good in front of a camera, but not behind the scenes. This seems like a cool contest as well.
Then we should team up! I'm awesome with the camera, but not so in front of it.
That would work, if we were in the same country. I'm in the US, while you are in Hungary, according to your profile. You didn't lie in your profile, did you?
No, I didn't lie, I am in Hungary. But being in another country is no problem, there are certain travel methods designed especially to cover large distances... :)

There's also the complication of my schedule, which is inhumanly booked. I wouldn't have the time to do so, anyway. My interest in the results of this competition, however, drives me to keep track of the events.

I might whip out my animation skills and see what I can come up with // But the big question would have to be should I do it in 3D or 2D?!?

Someone give me a plot?

I've got it! I know what I can make for this contest, now to just head over to the rules to see if I can get away with it

I'm sorely tempted to enter, but the terms of participation are unacceptable:

The Escapist said:
Any entry becomes the property of Themis Group, Inc. and will not be returned. Entrants [em]surrender copyright and all interests therein[/em] of their submissions to Themis Group, Inc. [emphasis mine]
Nope. Absolutely no way. You can have a world-wide, unlimited, sub-licensable, perpetual, irrevocable [em]license[/em] to the submission, but you can't have the copyright.

I seem to recall that last year's comp had a statement saying that the creator of the video would retain full rights to their work if it did not win. Does this still apply?

Having said that, as the winner, giving up full copyright is a major sacrifice, as it pretty much rules out having any supporting material to the video series (eg website, Twitter account, etc). I can understand The Escapist wanting the video to be exclusive to their site, but as an artist I would absolutely want to retain the rights to my work.
