Don't much like it myself, I prefer rock, ambient, classical and jazz. But at least it's better than hip-hop.

I just like EDM in general. I really like dubstep, but it's not the Messiah or anything. It's good listening music, and it's even become somewhat dance-able in the last few years. I still prefer other genres for dancing, ex. electro house, trance, hardstyle (I'm big on dancing to EDM.)

Also, I didn't realize there was this much hate for techno. I just kinda assumed it was ignored. What's up with that?
This, I do enjoy dubstep but it really isn't meant to be listened to exclusively. remember that DJ's play a club rather than music at a club, you want to build up the energy slowly and let it plateau. This is why I can't listen to only dubstep, It's a great in your face style but if you're listening to dubstep for 4-5 hours it can get old fast.

Not a fan of Hardstyle but do you shuffle? or just dance?

I used to hate techno, I used to listen to folk music/indie music. It slowly grew on me, it all depends what you think of when someone says 'music' do you think of:

a) A band consisting of drums, bass, guitar and a singer
b) anything rhytmic that conveys a feeling or emotion

is dubstep a fad? not anymore than jungle is a fad or psytrance is a fad. It's music that people enjoy and people enjoy making. I think there is more (unwarrented) hate for Skrillex than anything since he seems to be the 'brostep' artist everyone refers to.

Fairly new to it. But can someone explain what people mean when they say a drop? thanks.
A drop in a song is the point where the energy picks up quickly, listen to almost any EDM song and the structure is usually the same:

the intro starts to slowly build the energy, after that comes the breakdown which is where energy from the song is taken away again usually cutting out the bass beat. Finally comes the drop which is when the energy rushes back into the music, Basically it's the part of the song that is going to make you want to dance the most.

taking the OP's example of dubstep:

The intro is from: 0:00-0:55
The Breakdown is from: 0:56-1:07
The drop is at: 1:08

then the process repeats without the intro part

I think "Drop" means whenever the wubbing starts.

Yeah, dubstep is fucking terrible unworthy even of the title of garbage.

I like dubstep at one point before it was popular(i know ,i know).
Alot of the wampwamp stuff gets boring fast but its good for a few laughs when hearing remixes.
That skrillix stuff it crap though.

techno, emo, soft rock, all the other garbage with it. So much bad music, so little time.
Calling techno garbage maybe going a bit far.
Why do you only listen to pink Floyd and the beach boys and some other indie crap.

I know of it and can see the appeal but overall it isn't my sort of thing.
I prefer metal myself. Gitar riffs and stuff.

Glad it's getting more people into electronic music.

Disappointed that its' fans are often kinda lame (see: Dubstep youtube comments).

Wish people got into other kinda of electronica too.

I quite like it myself. I seem to be the inverse of most people's conversion to electronic music these days since I only started listening to Dubstep recently. I got into electronic through Big Beat, then went on to House, Drum 'n' Bass then Dubstep.

This is coming from a guy who, 18 months ago, was a certifiable metalhead.

Only started listining to dubstep proper recently (after a friend telling me to constantly)
I like what I've heard so far & thanks to this thread, I've found out a few more good bits i wouldnt have thought of, thanks! :)

Though it drives my gf crazy :s
(though she finds some good, like afew of the dubstep game-music remixes)

EDIT: I'd also like to say that its great that it gets people into different forms of music..
usually I would've been into completly different kinds of music, but im glad i got to give new types a try :)

I'm from the UK, and here there has recently been a new wave of Music called Dubstep that has swarmed across the country, And i was wondering a few things about it...

Is it known about to escapist members in other countries?
Do you like Dubstep?
If so, What is your favourite Dubstep track?

PS, For anyone who would like a taste of what Dubstep is if they are unaware, this is a good example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VZMfhtKa-wo
FWIW, I'm a 32 year old US male - slightly older than the average here I think - and I like dubstep a lot. My apologies if this has already been posted, but this is sheer awesomeness.

If you liked that track, you will *LOVE* this one:

I like old dubstep but I prefer dubstyle.

I don't know how to post a link so I'll just say, look up Razrwirez - Align.

It's dubstyle that sounds like machines are in the background aha.
Thanks for that, I'm digging it! Though it starts to drag on after the 3 minute mark for me.

As for my opinion on dubstep...

Most I find is bland in songwriting. I love the wobblesound en all the other techy stuff going on, but you still have to be able to write an actual song if you wanna hook me in. I reckon me being a synthesizer player helps me like the patches going on but if your melodies and overall songwriting skills suck... But I guess that's the whole '95% is shit in every genre' argument comes in.

I recently came across these guys called Firefarm and they float my boat. Maybe not strictly dubstep or w/e I'm not good at electronic genres.
