What's that? A AAA survival horror game? By a genre veteran? There's a live action teaser trailer here that shows some interesting imagery. Nothing groundshakingly original, but I can deal. What are y'all thinking?

Especially since there are ingame screenshots.

Anyway, a new Shinji Mikami game is always a good thing, but it really doesn't seem to reach for anything even remotely new or fresh.

Personally I'm excited for it. I love horror games so I'm psyched for this.

I think it's deliberately tropey for some reason. Mostly the presentation of the title and trailer. I think it wants to put a late 80's horror vibe across.

I'm a fan of the early resident evils.

I kind of wish it had a female protagonist and the protagonist himself looks a little bland. But we will see.

I'm a huge fan of the old resident evil titles, so anything by this guy get's me excited. I'm not sure if anyone saw the story leak early from the Japanese website of the game, but I think the story sounds good, but I need to see gameplay footage before I get too excited. It still looks good, the trailer sure did make me uneasy, which Is good I guess.

I'm cautiously optimistic. The trailer didn't do too much for me, though I like the visual design. If the game looks like that, I'll be happy.

The descriptions of the game and in-game screenshots look promising. Fingers crossed that it'll be good.

Well, expect A LOT of mutants/zombies and quick time events... And guns... And racial controversy... And an annoying sidekick who'll die at the end...

In a word, underwhelming. The whole focus on the barbed wire seemed overdone, Barbed war is one of those horror staples but there just wasnt anything interesting being done with it. The monster styles were a little interesting, especially when the one rose out of the blood but that was really the only part that grabbed me. The part where it showed a guy with a safe on his head I thought "Copying pyramid head I see." and Im not even a big silent hill fan. Later we see that safe swing open and tentacles burst out but that didnt do anything for me either.

I suppose for a trailer it sets the mood but it really didnt impress or excite me. Maybe that'll change when I see some in game footage or maybe Ill just keep not liking AAA "horror" games. That and Indie devs have the horror market cornered and they do a decent job with it, so Im not really thinking AAA or go home

He stopped working on them before resident evil 4. He's credited in 4 but he didn't do a lot on it.

Oh, then we have nothing to worry about. Still, we need footage.

Looks like Silent Hill meets Resident Evil 4 (that bottom concept image especially). Though I will point out those are early images and will probably be different when we see the in-game footage and upcoming trailers. All in all, looks intriguing but bland/generic of the horror genre; it looks like they might be relying on the cover of darkness a little bit too much, and it will lean more on the aspect of sudden shock and gore horrors. The only reason I seem sceptical is because of (and all I should need to say are) three words:

SILENT HILL: DOWNPOUR

But if I'm wrong and it turns out to be an amazing, genuine, survival horror, game worth mentioning beyond the throw of a penny then I would be quite surprised and extremely pleased.

Edit: P.S. I'm not spiteful, ignorant, nor cynical; just realistic.

Yeah I'm cautiously hopeful. Mostly because I love survival horror so much.
It's a true shame that such a good genre has taken such an unfortunate turn. Hopefully this game can straighten it out, even at least just a little bit.

I'm a little underwhelmed by the trailer and the screenshots which featured a lot of headshootingness. Which really should be kept to an intense minimum in a horror game. Lest you risk ending up like Dead Space, where the horror runs out halfway through because by then you've killed a hundred roary monsters and you're kind of wondering what the fuzz is about. In a good horror game monsters need to be hard to kill and ammo needs to be a rarity. Running should preferred to shooting. Because it's when you are running or hiding that you're scared. When you shoot at something you stop being scared pretty quickly.

Still, Bethesda is a good developer. And I would rather have low expectations and be pleasantly (or in this case, horrifically) surprised rather than having high expectations that are not met.

Looked like the trailer was cut straight out of a Silent Hill movie so I'm not expecting this to be terribly novel.

Well. For starters.

"Yay! Fucked-up imagery!"

I hope for lots of running. I would like a Fallout/Elder Scrolls style RPG where it's heavily based around survival. Where you have to sneak in, grab the goods, stun the scaries and run for your life. Rarely killing anything. I love customisation, so that's basically all I could ask for when it comes to this game being an RPG. It's unlikely that it will fulfil my desires but Bethesda's good at RPGs. I like to see them do RPG things, but to put a different spin on 'em each time. Eh, I doubt many will agree.

People have worded this as "Bethesda's new game", fooling me into thinking Bethesda wasn't just publishing this time. Damn. How foolish of me. Still, looks incredible.

I loved how the trailer lures you into a false sense of security. Every time I rewatch it I don't want to the music to stop, and welcome it back at the end.

This is REALLY UNLIKELY, but I get the idea spider-arm-girl is an ally. Why else would a guy be messing with barbed wire potentially making himself BLEED if he didn't want her to come help fight Safe-face? I dunno, I'm just speculatin'.

You know I started thinking about this being a live action trailer and I think its part of why Im so underwhelmed by it. In the case of Skyrims live action trailer I knew a lot about the world having played other TES games and the set up was good as you saw people running away and then the dragon at the end. The whole thing made you know what to expect.

With this game there just doesnt seem to be anything behind it. Everything in the trailer seemed rather generic horror stuff and because there isnt a previous game to draw expectations from the whole thing comes off as generic and boring
