Like a few of you I just got finished watching moviebobs reveiw of the expendables, I was pretty shocked when he said it sucked. I was ready for him to say things like "best B level action movie ever" but im not arguing hes wrong im just a little confused. I saw Scott Pilgram on that friday instead and I still haven't seen the expendables, I guess what im asking for is a 2nd opinion, I trust moviebob but im still confused about the movie.

especially scince it made so much money on opening day and reveiwers everywhere have been throwing perfect scores to its feet like roses to a bull fighter

Can I get a little extra clarification please

I'm confused.

Movie Bob said he didn't enjoy the film, why do you need more clarification?

I, a Swede, read three reviews in newspapers. All of them rated the movie as bad.

I always thought it was going to suck...

It looks terrible and they were never going to make any good film with a cast that good.

They could have... but it wasn't going to happen.

to be honest its meh. i mean when the all the action scenes r nothing special, and u really only get into it during the big final fight. so really theres nothing memorable about it, but if u just want a time kill then ya its worth it. and the advertise all the action stars but really it only focuses on two and the other kinda just do their thing at the end

FOR me scot pilgrim was AWESOME i loved it soo much. and personally i liked the action in that movie more cause it was over the top hilarity but also got my adrenalin going :p

gasp, an opinion!

you wanted to see it, go and see it. Ol' bobbo is a critic, and looks for different things in a movie than the average theater goer.

Just because it's popular, doesn't mean it's good. The same can be said on the opposite side of the equation, personally, I think it's better not to listen to any of the reviewers and form your own opinion. I thought the Expendables was decent, just some mindless violence and what not, but that's just me.

If this is about Movie bob's review, post this on the forum post ABOUT movie bob's review.

No, it was horrific. Rather than give fighting scenes to the martial artists (Lee and Statham) they gave choppy action scenes. They gave the comedy to the comedy-dense actors. It wasn't JUST a horrific B-list action movie. It'ws a horrific action movie that takes what each action star is reknowned for and gives it to another actor, leving them awkward and patheticly acting in an attempt to make it better

It's alright. It's something you can enjoy and then forget about. It's not going to do anything big but it's still fun to watch as long as you let your self enjoy it.

I saw it. Here's a hint: Go in expecting nothing but Rocky slurring, Chev Chelios stabbing things, and Govenor Schwartzenegger making a cameo to turn down a job. It'll be all you need. Explosions, guns, and lots- and I mean LOTS- of fighting.

I think you confuse critics with reviewers. A critic rates whatever he or she reviews and that includes bias. A reviewer just presents whatever he or she is reviewing to the reader without any grading/rating/biased personal opinion.

It's an 80's action movie. Not a hoage or genre throwback to 80's action movies or the ultimate action movie to end all action movies but a straight-up 80's action movie.

Generally if you're the sort of person who would enjoy the Expendables you'd have already seen it.

This is the society that gave us Twilight. Let's not expand on that topic anymore than that.

All the reviews I've read have been pretty bad.
I Work at a cinema and have seen a few parts, it seems like pretty mindless action to me.
That said we had a staff show and the people who went said it was really funny, though I'm guessing a lot of that hilarity was unintentional.

Actually, you're right. The people giving the low scores were critics. Is what they wrote still called reviews?

Well if you ask me I'd say no, but if you ask them then they would probably take the opportunity to flatter themselves by calling it reviews.

At worst, a professional reviewer CAN compare the current object of review with a previous one and illustrate certain important differences to get his or her point across (like comparing particular aspects of The Expendables with a similar actionfilm).

But what can I say, journalistic integrity is dead, and critics shamelessly call themselves as reviewers and their articles as "reviews".

One important point to remember here, our dear zero punctuation, word machine gun Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw is a game critic. And we all know that his criticism tend to be somewhat overly focused on the very worst aspects of any game he "reviews".

Now what does that tell us about critics in general? :)

I liked it. It was a totally stupid action movie but they threw lots of knives and it was cool.

I had no doubts this was going to suck,I wasn't planning on seeing it anyway.
C'mon look at the cast, seriously think about it. It was obvious from the get go that the premise was, "Let's get all the action stars in one film, people will go see it no matter what." It doesn't matter what the story is in the film, that was the premise in real life. There was an off chance that maybe some director would look past that and try to make a good film but that was highly unlikely.
