I'm not sure if 30 minutes is enough to judge the success or failure of a game launch.
The failure of this game launch was pre-decided by about 50% of this forum's inhabitants. If the launch had gone off beautifully, and only 2 people ran into problems, we'd have a thread describing their experience in excruciating detail with 500 posts saying "I knew it!" and "Exactly as expected".

By the same token, anyone expecting good things from this launch is going to latch on to positive press reviews, or the " I got in fine and I'm having a blast" comments and take them as evidence of the true experience.

We are all perpetually delighted to have our prejudices confirmed, and will struggle mightily against conflicting information, if we don't ignore it entirely.
50% try like 80%,
I like your comment and your way of thinking Sir!

The only thing I would add to help describe most of the responses to "Sim City", or Ea is the typical,
Waaaaaaaaaaahhaaaa Waaaaaaaaa EA is a companey........ I didn't get games for free, there were issues with an online games servers, I have to pay for game addons, ect so forth.

People are still falling for this ? Seriously ? People never learn . Good job gaming industry . Good job consumers . This is the future of gaming . You reap what you sow . I for one have no pity on anyone that continues to support EA . Keep throwing you money at them , it's your money after all , but know that this is the grim future you are supporting . GG

Lol @ "grim future".

If only we had opposed always online games while there was still time! Now, we inhabit a grim future, and we must eat rats to subsist!

Hyperbole is fun. Grim is defined as "forbidding or uninviting." I think you are conflating the words "grim" and "apocalyptic." I would find the gaming industry to be quite uninviting if all AAA games functioned as many EA games currently do.

I also think you meant "subsist," since the word "subside" is nonsensical in that context.

You're correct. I did. I am an idiot.

Hyperbole IS fun, just like salt is delicious. The amount of Hyperbole we have enjoyed on the always online DRM issue is the equivalent of a salt lick sandwich, heavily salted, served with a bowl of salty brine.

Eh, at this point it doesn't really bother me. I've played WoW long enough to know that jack all works on launch day and its generally better to wait a day or two for everythin to get sorted out.

What's sad is this isn't even just an MMO or always on DRM thing either. I waited months to buy Skyrim because its a known fact that Bethesda games are buggy as fuck messes at launch and I wanted to wait until some of the bigger game breakin bugs were squashed (didn't help sadly, still got stuck on several parts because of bugs, fuck bethesda by the way).

I downloaded and played without any issue whatsoever. I really hate the always online crap but the game has been fun. I did have some issues with the servers being busy but choosing a new region and going back to my normal one let me right in. Knowing EA, I can definitely understand the frustration anyone is having.

Come on, that's excessive. The dog they had doing QA worked REALLY hard. Some nights, even. You could show some respect for his efforts.

Ok perhaps you needed help understanding.

In the entirety of your post you've yet to reach a concise point or even subject. You started running your mouth without even stating a purpose, your post falls somewhere between rant and uninformed gibberish.

Again theirs really no point to it besides the fact that you wanted to run into the thread yelling about how you hate EA for whatever stupid reason this time, you've latched on to a thread to continue spewing hatred towards the industry - its childish

I made a thread yesterday about how I was ready to watch the servers die and no one be able to play the game.
http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.402602-Whos-ready-to-watch-the-SimCity-servers-die-tomorrow#16621137

I don't think any online launch has gone well in the last 3 years.
I'm just happy to say "I told you so".

Also, I hope you enjoy forced rollbacks when their servers shit the bed. Since saves aren't local, you don't actually get to know your progress is actually being saved.

They had it coming. They only have themselves to blame.
I kind of agree. "Always Online" basically just means "Always a Problem" to me. I've never enjoyed an always online experience, and I've never NOT had a connection problem (either my side or the host server) with it at one point or another. That's why I'm not buying SimCity or any other always on game.

My rule is simple: If I cannot play the game, I want a refund.

We'll see what happens tonight when I try to play again, I was able to get playing for a few hours last night around 1am. If I get home and can't login within at most a 10 minute window...I'll be calling EA to get my $80 back.

The big difference between SimCity and Diablo 3, is that Diablo 3 is a bad game, from concept to released product, the game is badly flawed and by the time you FINALLY hit Inferno, is boring as shit to play. SimCity is actually a really impressive and fun game with some devs that actually know what they are doing with the series.

I won't care much about this DRM until:
They shut down the servers, in which case they better patch in single player and the ability to download my cities from the cloud to my computer...or there WILL be hell to pay.
I can't login, which I talked about already.

My net is stable and hasn't dropped or gone down once in 2 years.

BTW - I won't be touching the multiplayer aspect of the game at ALL, except with a friend or two. I can't abide pubs.

So you are perfectly okay with this? A game that in the past , you could just buy , install and play . Now requires you to be online all the time , to play alone , you have to wait in queues , to play alone , you can't play when you buy it because the servers are down/full ? A game where many people bought and cannot play because of a policy that EA continues to impliment , because people keep buying their games . Okay , koodoos for you . But i am honestly surprised that so many people are okay with this .

Sure they go on forums and ***** and moan , but at the end of the day , this still bought it. It's not as if they didn't know the game they bought required always online . Thus when shit like this happens , they shouldn't complain . This is a something EA did before , and will continue to do , because people keep buying the games .

Now as i said before , it's your money , do as you please , buy all means buy the game . But this practice is not going to go away by it's own . It will continue like this as long as people keep throwing their money at EA . So you can expect more of the same in the future .

Have fun not being able to play your game unless EA says it's okay.
