The Force Unleashed Could Have Had Wookie Superheroes

I thought the George Lucas smackdown was hilarious for some reason. Still, a Wookiee Superhero has all kinds of potential... Maybe Bioware should pick up on this for TOR?

This is actually old news. The Force Unleashed team talked about this even before Force Unleashed came out.

Because of the technology that they were looking to implement, DMM to be specific, they were looking for something over the top that would cause a lot of destruction. Their initial idea was to go with a Wookie because of their ridiculous strength. When they pitched it to Lucas he explained to them that Star Wars already had superheroes in the Jedi. He told them that if they wanted to go over the top with everything then they should just go nuts with the force powers.

I'm fine as long as there are no ewoks. The force Unleashed could have been great if the studio had only bothered to polish the code. But this wookie game only sounds good on paper, many game ideas do, face it you wouldn't want to play through an entire game as a wookie superhero... ok maybe not, now that I say it out loud it sounds pretty awesome.

Ironically enough it's his characters that can't talk that come away with the most characterization in the prequels.
Does anyone else find it hilarious that character like r2d2 are more memorable than Qui-gon Gin?
Am I the only one who actually did not dislike Qui-Gon Jin? I think he is arguably one of the best characters from Star Wars...which is not saying much, considering that Star Wars is a "fairy tale in space". Also, R2-D2 is more memorable then most of the casts in all Star Wars movies (and even more so then the failure of a character that is his companion, C-3PO), so to say that he is more memorable then character X is not saying much either.

And also, apparently, George Lucas never heard of Gordon Freeman. While dialogue is an important component of any story, a character does not have to interact with the audience verbally. On the contrary, a lot of people like mute(-like) characters precisely for the mystique they usually carry. Plus, considering how horrible and cheesy dialogue tends to be in Star Wars, the franchise certainly wouldn't be hurt by a few mute characters.

That said, however, the Wookie idea probably would have failed miserably. Wookie's do talk and they do so in a manner that is guaruanteed to annoy the majority of the audience after a while. Plus, one could argue that a lot of the appeal a Wookie like Chewbacca had would have been lost if one was thrust into a leading role. So while I think it would have made a great Easter Egg level, it was probably for the best to not have an entire game dedicated to the concept.

"I just spent the last half hour talking to you about the importance of characters talking to each other, and you pitch me a game idea where the main character can't talk?"
How dare you not listen to George Lucas!? You know he is the master of dialogue!
I just threw up a little in my mouth.

I didn't know there were people who didn't like Qui-Gon. Plus he's an adaptation of a Toshiro Mifune character, so how can that go wrong?

I guess I showed up too late to the party to take the piss out of George Lucas for talking about dialog.

Oh well!

Anyone who has seen the abortion known as the "Starwars Holiday Special" knows just how bad an all wookie cast would have been. The first 15 minutes has only wookie Dialogue, and it's about as painful as it gets.

Unfortunately, my 2 year old absolutely adores it. Groan.

Though throwing the heads of AT-STs would have been awsome. I'll give them that.
Ya, I'm betting Lucas had Holiday Special flashbacks and jumped on top of the developers screaming NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I don't understand why this is news... It isn't something just being revealed now. It was publicly available information before TFU even came out. I remember watching a video documentary with those exact quotes not long after TFU's website went up.

Still, I'm glad they went with the idea of increasing the destructive potential of the Force. I believe it is much more beneficial to the Star Wars franchise than a Wookie Superhero would have been.

Every time you spell Wookiee wrong, a baby Ewok dies. You don't want to kill baby Ewoks, do you?

Okay, I'm not saying the story and characterisation in the game that was released was bad, but it certainly wasn't worth shooting down an awesome Wookie superhero for.
