The FPS genre has been talked about alot recently with people pointing fingers.
There seems to be this Misconception that the genre can do no wrong, or can do no right.
I am just here to provide a personal history of the FPS genre. This is less of an educational lesson as it is just you sitting back and being entertained by my complete lack of sanity. lets begin.
"Our story begins with a game that pushed the boundries of technology, with it's pathetic flat rooms and 2.5D perspective, it's a hard name to forget. I am of course talking about... Catacomb 3D

Coming out a year before Wolfenstein 3D, Catacomb 3D was probably the first First person shooter in the 1st Era of The FPS. what are the eras you ask?
1st Era - A Not So Doomed Start. The Catacomb Abyss - Half Life
2nd Era - Pushing The Boundaries. Half Life - Deus Ex Invisible War.
3rd Era - A Bunch Of Crappy Sequels. Deus Ex Invisible War - Present
4th Era - God Takes John Carmack, Gabe Newell, Warren Spector, Shigeru Miyamoto, and Hideo Kojima and combines them to create the Ultra Developer. (But that hasn't happened yet, not intill 2016.)
Present - Barbie Goes Hunting
Anyways, Wolfenstein 3D came in and changed things, instead of Mazes and Monsters (Which is a far out game.) we had Mazes and Monsters, except the monsters were Nazis this time.
The games goal was to shoot nazis and then go on an elevator to win the level.
Sadly after Wolfenstein 3D nazis would never be fun to shoot ever again, because no one thought of putting Hitler in a Mechsuit ever again.
Then came DOOM, now instead of a completely flat level there are Stairs... truly this game pushed everything out of it's way and kicked ass. The truly 3D levels were a sight to behold.
intill the advent of the greatest shooter ever made.

Then there was Halo, that was kinda fun...
Half Life 1 was a game, I think you can play it.
then there was... I don't remember.
I'm tired now, be back soon.
