Do you ever look back and miss the times when a game didn't have to have a complex backstory to fulfill your gaming palet? A simpler time when you played a game that you could never acually win, just to see how far you could get? The magical moment when you win and put the initials ASS on the leader board. Good times, so tell me what you think.

What, you mean games like Braid? Games like Geometry Wars? Games like all the games you can download on xbox live arcade and the PlayStation store? Yah, those days are gone forever.

I'll take Super Mario Bros. 1 over any game any day. I just love that game damn it. PacMan and Space Invaders are both great games too. And now I feel really old. I'm only 15 damn it!

Well, Fable 2 is still better than all those games together.

Galaga for me, I absolutely hate MS for getting the remake on XBLA. Every time there's an arcade nearby, i check to see if there's a Galaga machine there. I love the begining music to :)

This. The whole 'next gen' thing and online marketplaces have offered up ample opportunity for retro and classical games to get remade/rereleased for people to play.

And if you really want to play those impossible games, dust off your NES and get to it. No one's stopping you. The whole "You can play what you feel" thing we've got going for us at the moment is quite nice tbh. No need to sit thinking "Back in t'day..." when you can just go and play those games. You've got the option for present day things, you've got the option for retro. Sometimes you do just want a game of Pacman, sometimes you want to sit back and listen to Snake burble on about nanomachines and the patriots.

I beleive I made a similar thread of the exact same name about 3 months ago.
Neglect of the search button aside, I want my Super Mario World and SNES back.

A lot of the old arcade game I miss. I'm incredibly excited that the galaga update is coming to the XBLA because that was one of my favorite games.

Meh. They were fun when I was a kid, but nowadays I just get bored and frustrated with the lack of depth (in terms of story, graphics and gameplay). That's not to say I don't have the same problems with today's games (though most are at least tolerable), even (or perhaps especially) with regard to graphics.

I remember playing Sonic & knuckles on the mega drive when robotnik backstabs knuckles in the hidden palace and thinking "Wow, this game has a plot and theres a twist in it - I never saw that coming in a game of this era" - now double-crosses are a fact of life, but it was newish at the time

I miss the days when Spyro was a mute collection of polygons rather than this VERY American sounding artard who just fought the same bosses as the easrlyer games. The days when a game was more of an experiance than an obligation and when it took more than 3 days to complete them. I don't buy first hand games any more because they are always too short. I used to when you could spend a week button mashing your way through dodgy level design and suspect gameplay. I don't mind this level of crappyness in old games but nowadays its a different story.

I used to love spending my time waiting for my clothes to be done at the laundry mat playing the Galaga arcade machine...my gf thought I was nuts for enjoying it...good times.

I personally like a good story and am perfectly happy that video games have become a medium that can support one. I do have to admit I miss Tempest, though.. first game I ever played, AND first game I ever became really good at.

I know! Everytime there's an arcade with Galaga, I always scour for quarters or ask my dad for a few quarters. I absolutely hate MS for getting the Galaga remake, so I'm assuming it's going to be crap ;O

You 'can't' remake Galaga! It's a classic and deserves to retain its greatness in the way it was always meant to be played!

I KNOW!!!! Galaga is like Watchmen! It can't be (re)made!

Okay, that was a stupid analogy, but that doesn't stop me from hating MS.

Whether they do it or not I've always had a dislike in me for MS. I've enjoyed the XBox on a few occasions but it doesn't mean I like MS.

On another note I really miss the days of SNES. Some of my best and favourite moments of gaming were on my SNES. Back in the time when the graphics didn't matter (although I thought they were the shit back then) and the games were just plain fun! Still own all my systems to this day. Will never get rid of them.

I remember starting gaming when i was about 6 years old. I played games like Death Rally, Warcraft 2, Starcraft, Duke Nukem, and games that were barely able to be called 3D and, looking back on them, were pretty violent and scary and I wonder how I became the intelligent civilized person that I am (probably due to the fact that I wasn't retarded as a kid and could tell fiction from reality) I also remember my first console was the N64, I got it the Christmas it was released, and games like Conker's Bad Fur Day (holy shit @ me playing that when I was 9 and not turning into a mental case) and the original Super Smash Brothers left good memories that help get me through the retarded mainstream titles of today. All my freinds are obsessed with Halo 3 even though it's not very good and, while having much better graphics than starcraft, is not nearly as much fun as starcraft and everything in Halo is completely ripped off of Aliens or Starcraft. Thanks that is all >.<

well geez.. halo being ripped off from starcraft... that means... blizzard spawned sience fiction... AMAZING!
Anyway I love the old days.
the "golden age" of gaming where MODE-7 graphics where awesome and "blast-processing" was the fasted we could get.
all we needed was 4 to 6 buttons and several layers of sprites accompanied by some chiptune soundtrack.
I remember playing Double Dragon for the first time. I was a kid and for the first time I could punch people in the face without being send to my room.
I think these thoughts spawn to those who have seen the industry grow and have seen it's hits and misses.
Even today I still feel some of that childhood warmth return if I play a game that is made with love for games and the gamers.

Yeah, those were good times. Brings me back to the days where I actually talked to everyone on my buddy list. Now I just go down it and I'm like, no, no, no, no, no.
