The Great Gatsby NES Game "Discovered"

I've never read or even heard of the book.

It's basically a pretentious arthouse novel that arguably acted as the prototype for even worse soap operats. It's however famous for both being well written with strong wordplay, and a sort of homage to the time period it was written in. Any direct, biting social relevence it once had being long gone along with things like bootleggers. It could however be said that every time an organized crime figure gets involved in a soap opera is's probably inspired by Gatsby, along with the whole car accident schtick.

That's what I think at any rate, however like anything opinions are going to vary, also the video game translation is definatly amusing.

You play as Nick Carraway, the narrator of the novel, as you traverse New York from the Valley of Ashes to the West Egg. To fight off the baddies (flappers, hobos, gangsters... ghosts?), you simply fling Nick's hat, Oddjob-style. Can you defeat the laser-shooting eyes of Dr. Eckleberg? Can you best the drunken tantrums of Tom Buchanan?

Man, wish reading the book in highschool was this exciting...

Dude that was so much fun, I read the book and just hated it but this is freaking cool! Just goes to show you that the old 8-bit Nintendo can make anything fun!

Addendum: If it is done right, brrr, had Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde flashbacks. Raise a glass boys and girls, this one is for the AVG Nerd!

I kept laughing so hard, it took me forever to get through the first level. I mean...hat...flapper....lol!

I'm glad I never read Gatsby in high school. It's really better to read it when you're older and have a better understanding of the time period, and perhaps social dynamics. Pretty rock solid writing and social commentary.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to pour myself a double bourbon and throw my hat around the room.
