I honestly have to agree. The Bebop is possibly ((in my own mind atleast)) the best constructed anime universe. There politics, crime, military, and technology, all really explained in some sort of detail.

The characters are beyond likeable, and scripting doesnt get anybetter. The art is clean and always smoooth, and the audio quality is on par with even the most modern anime. The jokes are witty, and complemented extreamly well by the cast. Both the original japanese audio, and the amarican dub sound wonderful.

Its really one of the only animes to make me tear up, and even cry at times.

Umineko and Higurashi, they were both epic but Beatrice's evil witches cackle will forever hold a special place in my heart.

Mine would have to be Cowboy Bebop at this time. Ive never seen such a well constructed universe with so many genres and diverse subjects. The characters are amazing (especially Ed :3) and the music just tops it off as the cherry on this sundae of AWESOME.

(There probably is a similar thread to this but I couldn't find it. So don't give me flak for making a new one please.)
I'm agreeing with the OP, cowboy bebop has be my most favorite anime ever.

Over 100 posts and no mention of Legend of the Galactic Heroes? I know it's old (and long) but still...

I've seen quite a few series, but there's nothing that comes close for me. It has everything I enjoy: politics, war, relations & drama, epic classical music, conspiracies etc. This all set in space dominated by a 'Prussian-like' Empire on one side and a 'Western' (kindaa corrupt) democracy on the other. Only thing is it looks rather bad, especially the episodes from the '80s (it ran from '88 til '97).

I don't know if I have a favorite anime, I know I have many favorites, but I'll throw out one that I recently started and that I think is a great one! Casshern Sins. As of now, it takes the cake for the most depressing anime I've seen. It's set in (of course) an apocalyptic world inhabited mainly by robots with a dying human race. The world is plagued by a mysterious entity known as 'the Ruin', which causes robots to slowly rust away and die. What's interesting is that this mess was caused by the main character, who is completely oblivious to what he has done due to him losing his memory.

It's very interesting, it may sound cliched but give it a chance! It has great music, art and voice acting!

Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. It's simply brilliant. From the detailed cyberpunk universe and all the meaty philosophy that comes with it, to the awesome action and score by Yoko Konno.
I don't know about the best ever, but I would have to say it's the most accomplished. Especially series 2.

Lord knows what the greatest ever is. I guess it would have to be something that's a technical achievement, original yet familier and convincing, and enjoyed by everyone. Spirited Away maybe?

Code Geass is my favourite. Probably not for everyone though.

Gintama. It's the funniest show I have ever, ever seen - and even the more saddening episodes end up being happy at the end. The battles (that are few and far between) are absolutely breathtaking.

The first 20 or so episodes are actually fillers, filling the character relationships and how characters know eachother. Once you get past that it's absolutely fantastic.

It's essentially a comedy that parodies almost every single popular anime created.

Some examples of what goes on in the anime:

As for other anime I loved FMP, Ghost in the Shell SAC, Fate/Stay Night, Black Lagoon and a few others. However Gintama is my favourite.

Now THAT is a good film, Top Boy for your choice.

OT: Valkyria Chronicles is just really all-round well-done, whilst Viewtiful Joe, for all it's childiness, is really quite cool, and so strangely unique. Also, it's got one of the best cathphrases ever (HENSHIN A GO-GO, BABY!!!!)

That's like saying a Shakespeare and a college student plagiarising Shakespeare(and making it gayer, somehow) are the same. Technically you're right.....if all you look at is dude's fighting.
