Greatly pleased about this - love Martin Freeman, and also Richard Armitage is a pretty awesome actor too(huzzah for Spooks!). Can't wait for this to be out. Also seing a fair number of British actors, which is a nice change.

I want to know who Smaug will be, there are so many fantastic voices out there that would be great. For some reason Liam Neeson comes to min, but his voice isn't exactly that of a giant goddamned dragon.

Just because he's offered himself for the part doesn't mean he'll get it. Personally, my vote would be for Ron Pearlman for Smaug and if not Smaug, Beorn.

While I'm all YAY!! for the Hobbit and Martin Freeman and other good UK actors getting parts, my only worry would be it causing a delay/cancellation in new series' of both Sherlock (for Martin) and Being Human (Aiden Turner)

At first I read that as Morgan Freeman. Part of me is dissapointed.

I'm sad that the rumour of Sylvester McCoy being Bilbo turned out to be false

However Martin Freeman is a good actor, I can come to accept this even though he wouldn't exactly have been my first choice.

Now, now... McCoy is WAY too old for the part.

Freeman will be brilliant; he's already proven himself able to keep that comic timing in big movies, and I think he already looks quite hobbit-like, so woo!

Also delighted to hear fellow Irishman Aidan Turner has nabbed himself a role in it, along with what appears to be a smattering of really good actors. Richard Armitage from Spooks and Robin Hood is very good.
