The Immortals RP

You awoke from what should have been your death with a start, and found yourself unable to be killed. Ever.

Whether a few weeks, decades, or centuries, you have found time and again that you cannot die. You have, at points, met immortals like you, but they know very little about their situation as well. You cannot kill each other, you have no special abilities, (aside from excellent memory and an incredible ability to learn and adapt to new situations.)

As far as you can tell, you have no real supernatural powers aside from the obvious. You can eat food and drink, but don't need to. You can feel all emotions and sensations you have not psychologically repressed. You cannot age past the date of your ?death.?

In your world, you can only find those like you and try to find out why you are blessed/ cursed. That or you can try to blend in.

The mystery of your existence should perplex you, and if you do not go out looking for others like you, they will likely seek you out.

Today, you began to feel a new sensation that you had never felt before. An odd, cold, electric tingling under your skin. Something new is happening in the world, and you can feel in your bones that it is somehow tied to your fate.

Welcome to the Immortals RP. It is not a Vampire or Highlander RP, nor is it specifically Fantasy/ Sci-Fi. It is a scenario with which to develop historical characters and put them in various adventure situations.

The Rules are fairly basic. This is a character driven RP. I will push the plot in various directions, but I would like to see where the various players would like to take it. The point is excellent story telling, so there is no real end goal but how well we can develop the plot. As such, no dice, no points, no special system. I'm trusting you to be mature and not God-Mode this RP into rubble. God Moders will be kicked, as well as trench-coaters. Mary Sues, Mystery Men, Mutes and other horrendous stereotypes.

There will be one Mute in the RP, but she is STRICTLY an engine for plot progression.

Your character needs REAL flaws. Brooding is not a flaw, it's something people do when they are upset. True, it is annoying if they do it too much, but Christ, I want to see something else.

If your character is TOO perfect, I probably won't want to play with them and they likely won't make it to the end of the story.

No absurdly crazy people, either, they are at least as annoying as the brooders.

I am very open to things in favor of plot progression, but if you're unsure of something, it's a good idea to just PM me before a move.

No sex. Keep it in the wings, my hormonal buddies. There can be suggestion of a romantic affair, but assume we're using 1960's standards of mass media, in which the ?twinkle in the eye? tells us what we need to know.

You have a LOT of freedom in this RP as far as characters are concerned. Time period, personality, it's mostly open, however, to keep in the theme of our over-arching plot, I do have a few guidelines.

Your character must have died doing something heroic. Perhaps he or she was a martyr for his or her respective religion and was put to death for their beliefs. Or maybe your character was an accused witch in Salem who refused to implicate any innocents and was subsequently burned at the stake. Maybe you had a brave viking launch himself at an impossible number of enemies in order to allow his fellows to escape to the ship. Have your character die for something they believed to be right. They don't have to be angels or saints, and they might have done something despicable. Maybe your character was a desperate suicide bomber running into a school of kindergartners. The point is you died doing something you believed in and did so with gusto.

At the last moment, just at the point of death, your character had a final doubt, and regretted their impending doom. They did not regret what they were standing for, they regret that they have to die to do it, because they have something to live for.

Your character's back story should be PMed to me, and not posted on the forum. I want the characters to have varying understanding of one another, and it's easier to develop authentic character interaction without knowing too much about the other character. I will keep a back log of character stories.

You may post your basic sheet on the main page.

For everyone to see on the Forum page, here is the basic sheet:

Name:
Gender:
Physical Age:
Era of Origin:
Physical appearance:
General Personality:

It might look like this:

Name: Susana Bend
Gender: Female
Physical Age: 16
Era of Origin: 1920's
General Personality: Smart and sassy, she has a sharp tongue and a sharp wit. Unfortunately this doesn't make her very bright and she comes off as fairly annoying or brash.

You should PM me with all of the above AND your Back story. This may vary in length from person to person, but the better researched and fleshed out, the better chance you have of sticking around.

This is my first hosted RP on The Escapist. I'm not asking that you be nice, but patient and informative in places.

I've done others on other sites, but the rules were different. As such, I invite you to give suggestions and tell me when something doesn't fit. This also applies to the story.

I might not always agree, but I will listen.

I will be allowing 20 to 25 people in, and posting twice daily. Before 9a.m. and after 8p.m. South Korea time. You may interact as much with others as you want, but you will only hear from me twice daily.

I love it! :D There aren't many character-driven RPs around here. Mind if incorporate my character from another RP into this one, but edit around some of the details?

Go ahead, I just require that it be your original character, and not one based on any preexisting franchises.

Eh, might as well. Pretty much all the other RP's I used to be in are dead, anyways. Expect a character sheet soon. To the creative process center of my brain! *Batman spinning logo sound*

Name: Gerard de Alemania
Gender: Male
Physical Age: 27
Era of Origin: 11th century
Physical appearance: Long, muscular, short brown hair, blue eyes. His face has quite a few scars. Pale skin.
General Personality: Even after almost a millenium he has a well developed sense for humor, and the things keeping him going are music, art and enjoyable people. Sometimes, when he is bored, he tends to get melancholic, maybe even a bit depressed. Is often sarcastic, but always polite when talking to people.
Background:He was born in Prussia( the north-eastern part of what is now Germany), in the city of Lübeck. He was a noble, and when the king rode out to join the crusade to the holy land he followed. For almost seven years he fought, but despite his bravery in battle the war was nearing its end, the christians were loosing. He was eventually 'killed' defending the city of Jerusalem against a vastly superior arabic force. He was among the last surviving defenders of the battle, and when he was the last man standing he refused to put down his weapons. He was put in a mass grave which he, after having woken up, dug himself out from with his bare hands. By this point he was very afraid of himself and thinking that he was possessed by a demon, he tried to take his own life. Both by trying to drown himself,or simply by impaling himself on his own sword. He soon stopped these futile attempts, after realizing it did no good. He tried to seek guidance, but every priest he confessed to labeled him as a demon. He was executed a few times, accused of wizardry, as he made his way North through Europe. His faith in god was starting to falter.

When he eventually returned to his home town of Lübeck he found it much changed, during the houndreds of years he had been planlessly wandering around. None of the people he had known were now alive. Sure, he had met others like him on his travels. But they were either crazy or even more lost than he was, so after a few decades he usually parted from them, no wiser of the nature of his being than when they met.

Gerard started integrating himself into the human society. Every few decades he disappeared, and then reappeared in another place with a new identity. It didn't take long until he knew every major language on earth fluently.

Sometimes he was so stuck in his identity he forgot who he really was, for short moments. These were the only times he was truly happy. This cycle of identities went on unto modern times. The only change for Gerard was that it became harder to not raise suspicion when suddenly appearing or disappearing.

Name: Dexter Allen
Era of origin: 1830?s
Era of "death": 1860?s in the Battle of Antietam
Physical age: 29
Personality: Dexter Allen always had a fighting spirit when it came to the Confederate beliefs. He thought slavery was right at the time, and often shunned people who believed otherwise. This was a flaw of his, as he always seemed to only accept his own ideas. This tendency still exists, but not as much as it did "Back in the Day," since it seemed the people "Nowadays" didn't seem to appreciate it.

-------------------

That good? Back story will be PM'ed later tonight.
[small]And in case you didn't notice, the stuff in quotation marks are Dexter's terms for time.[/small]

EDIT: Shiz, forgot physical age. To the edit button! *Batman spinny logo sound*

I need to stop doing that...

I like the look of this a lot! Just a few things.

1. I think 20-25 people is a bit too much for an RP, it could get very fast paced in here, especially at the start, and having 20 or so people ninja'ing each other will be very messy and annoying :/

2. What is the current time period? Is it the present day, or a bit further ahead?

OH MY FRICKIN JEEZE. Longest back story I have ever written.

Here's the short stumpy version for you all.

Current Name: Guy Doyle
Original Name: Giorgio Baldovinetti

Gender: Male

Physical Age: 37

Era of Origin: 1412-1449

Physical appearance: Guy's skin tone naturally suggests a Mediterranean origin- which makes sense, as his home country is Italy. His hair, a brown the colour of dark chocolate, is naturally wavy from frequently living by the seaside; it is long enough to curl over the tops of his ears and almost reach his eyebrows, though trimmed neatly at the back to avoid any sort of mullet in appearance. Though his face is still rather youthful with only some wrinkles here and there, a few strands of hair have turned gray or white. As for his eyes, they are a light sort of brown, though in sunlight can seem to have almost a golden glow about them. They stand guard beside a long and straight nose, whose nostrils always seem to be flared. A long shining scar can be seen on his right temple.

For the sake of being experimental- or when suffering through trying times- Guy has on the occasion 'let himself go' and gained weight; however, since after participating in World War II, Guy has once again lost weight and become not muscular or fit but 'average'. His hands are a bit on the large size, though through centuries of practice, have become quite delicate tools and rarely fumble about. His feet are also a little big, but surprisingly light.

General Personality: Due to being the oldest of the family, Guy- while not being entirely joyless- usually observes a situation with careful consideration and seriousness of nature. He can appreciate levity at the appropriate moment. While his outward aura can seem off-putting, stern, or a little distracted, when approached on an emotional level, Guy is most often kind and honest.

Being a bit of a romantic, Guy has a soft spot for brunettes. While he has few to no true physical flaws or disabilities (you'd think a few centuries would have slowed him down a little), he is very conservative in his beliefs. He also, rather than acting to steer events, tends to place his faith in God and the Virgin Mary, which can often end badly- and when it does, he claims it as the will of God.

Whelp, it looks like I've scared off most people anyway, as I've only had four real replies, so it won't get that big; but I have run bigger. It all breaks down to mechanics which I will get into later.

It's taking place now. Future plots tend to collapse in on themselves unless you put them really far into the future, in which the environment detracts from the plot/ characters.

Anyway, good replies for all three of you who have followed through!

Yeah that tends to happen, people sometimes take longer than usual to decide whether or not they will follow through with an RP. You might get some late comers asking for reserves though. =]

Let's start getting down to brass tacks:

For this Rp, you will only be required to post once daily. Don't feel you have any obligation, and just let me know if you need to skip your post for the day.

As I stressed earlier, I most want to see your characters interacting to expand the story, but if your characters are going to have an aside conversation, please try to keep it genuinely in the wings, and not on the forum page. It adds to the RP, rather than detracts, because then you authentically have to reiterate and track your character interactions.

I will post twice daily to account for multiple time zones, and push the plot/ plots as they need to be pushed.

Your characters will be doing a lot of traveling, so consider whether or not your character is willing to travel in the coming weeks, and how well they will prepare before the RP.

I will likely be posting our first content post tonight, and people can continue to come in as we fill up. If you have any friends you want to join, tell them now. It's almost always more fun if people start from the beginning.

That being said, the nature of the RP allows new people to come in and old people to go easily, so be careful who you choose the friend.

As usual, PM me any specific questions.

Tempted, but i do have a question.

When you say that a character had to die heroically does that mean i have to be a 'good' guy? Because i really want to RP as a German WWII veteran.
