I know I'm breaking my own rule by responding to you (you're a good poster when it comes to everything else, but in pony threads you may as well be a religious fundamentalist for all the good arguing with you will do), but I have to defend the Hitler thing: the guy who did that was saying that Mr. Allen is no more representative of bronies than Hitler is of the human race as a whole. In fact, I'd go so far as to say he's less representative of bronies than Hitler is of humans, because bronies tend to be quite a bit younger than Luke, while the human race does have a tendency to commit genocide. Bronies are mostly highschool and college students who are too old to fit in the target demographic for most cartoons, but too unemployable to avoid having lots of free time. Many of them fill this time with cartoons, and many of those people like My Little Pony. Hence, bronies.

Edit: To make it even more clear, he wasn't saying that Luke Allen was on the same level in any way as Hitler is. He was saying that referencing him is almost as pointless as referencing Hitler; he was calling a brony version of Godwin's law on you, before you called the standard one on him.
But my point in the post you quoted still stands and was just beautifully demonstrated by you. You folks can't distance yourselves far enough away from this guy and it's hilarious. You didn't come out defending Luke you came out and said he the "brony version of Godwin's Law". Hell you said people are more likely to be similar to Hitler than bronies are to be like Luke Allen. Could you throw him under the bus a little further?

This guy went out and did an interview saying "Yeah there are chaps out there that like My Little Pony, I'm one of em and it's ok be this way" and for coming out and defending the lot of you bronies he's been pretty much ostracized for his troubles. Love, tolerance and understanding indeed.
Hey, man, some of us just like the cartoon and don't really care about the love and tolerance crap -- and among the ones who do, there's a bit of a divide over whether it was ever anything more than a joke to begin with. You'll notice that my avatar is from Mobile Suit Gundam, not My Little Pony.

Edit: As for why bronies try to distance themselves from him, he was picked by a sensationalist news outlet for an article that painted all bronies as creepy basement dwelling 30+ year olds. If someone had done an article abut gamers and picked a guy like that to be representative, and then people started actually thinking that's what all gamers were like, you mean to tell me you wouldn't want to correct them?

If being a gamer carried the same stigmas that being a brony carried (guess what sunshine most people see bronies in a VERY poor light whether you want to admit it or not) and someone came out and stood up for us like Luke did for bronies I may not invite him over for Thanksgiving dinner but I sure as Hell wouldn't throw him under the bus when he was brought up as the brony community does to Luke. He was out there defending you guys against public perceptions of pretty horrible things, that takes balls, and the people he was standing up for are treating him worst of all.

Why do people get so bitchy about bronies? The bronies I've met so far are nothing more than people that like to share inside jokes from one of their favorite shows, you know, like pretty much EVERY PERSON ON THE INTERNET. Seriously people chill the fuck out and go enjoy whatever you enjoy and share it with other people that enjoy it too.
And if you ever met a brony that "shoved" MLP down your throat (wich I'm still waiting to happen to me), well, how do I put this gently... grow a pair, say "no thank you".

I don't think you understand; this guy is where most of the stereotypes originated from. The Godwin's law thing is an accurate comparison; mentioning him is almost as grating to bronies as the old "Hitler was a vegetarian" line is to vegetarians. He's not representative of bronies as a group, but he's the go to example.

Ok you think that one unfortunate picture from an interview is what made the public turn on grown men who like My Little Pony? You think folks saw nothing wrong with grown men watching a show made for little girls until Luke talked to wired.com? You got to be kidding me!

Tell ya what, go talk to some people who wouldn't know what a brony or who Luke Allen were if their lives depended on it. Go find some soccer moms or maybe some random guys at a mall and ask them what they think of grown me who, not only watch My Little Pony, but go online to discuss it with other grown men. I think you'll find in the big picture Luke Allen has fuck all to do with where the bad stereotypes come from.

Beyond all that though it does nothing to change the fact the guy was out there trying to defend the lot of you. I'm not saying you guys need to set up fan pages to him but you don't need to look for the nearest bus to toss him under when he's brought up either.

Not the picture, the interview itself. The article painted bronies as middle aged basement dwellers, and they managed to find a brony who fit the description.

Edit: As for soccer moms and random guys at the mall, I couldn't care less what they thought. These are the people who would be weirded out no matter what nerdy thing I told them I liked -- the same people who look down on videogames, the same people who, in generations past, burned their kids rock albums. I'm not worried at all what they think, but it does bother me when people who should know better start spouting crap.

You honestly just think it's the out of touch conservative right that sees bronies in a bad way? Go to a bar, a night club, Barnes and Nobles, a beach, hell it doesn't matter, just talk damn near anyone who isn't a brony and explain to them what a brony is then ask them their opinion and I'd bet massive sums of cash most people are going to have opinions are less than favorable to say the least. You lot just can't or don't want to see the forest from the trees. Saying the general public finds you a bit creepy would be akin to saying the pope is just some catholic fella.

Well, that is officially the most I've gotten out of anyone. I usually just get "'CAUSE IT'S AWESOME! HATERS GONNA HATE!" - which makes absolutely no sense. Haters going to hate? The fuck does that even mean. A phrase uttered only by children with birth defects.
Actually, that bit's been around for a while now (brief explanation here), and is by no means exclusive to any single fandom.

Not even necessarily out of touch conservatives, just people who are out of touch with the culture of 20 something nerds. Go to a college campus some time, I dare you. The bronies are legion.

Edit: Also, the fact that they're out of touch with nerd culture hurts in a different way: they've never met a brony, so they draw unfounded conclusions -- or worse, read articles like the one you brought up earlier, which give misinformation and paint bronies in a bad light.

Ok, I tricked the NATO leadership into believing that Arabs are afraid of horses, the new extrodinary funding means there are now plans to erect a hollow wooden pony outside every airport and large city. The expected completion time is 72 hours as of now, so grab some supplies, climb inside, and hide wit' yo' kids and yo' wife, coz they raping every forum out there.

The ponies are meant as a safe haven for anyone seeking refuge from the incoming pony assimilation. Good luck people, and remember, if you're reading this, you are the resistance.

Yeah, something that has been lost in the last few pages is that the bronies are just as sick of the constant fighting as everyone else is. I started a thread earlier today in the hopes of getting a sticky heading off some of the common questions, because the threads are going to start in earnest shortly if we don't do something about it.

I would attempt to understand what this phenomena is all about, but talking with a "bronie" is extremely one-sided and about as useful as smashing your head into a wall.
Ya well if you'd just quit smashing your head into that wall maybe a little conversation could be made. And you really are one of the most spiteful people I constantly see on this site. Your always going on about negatives with things. Try living on the lighter side of life, I know your entitled to your own believes but still.

I sort of favor the Jay and Silent Bob idea. Now lets pool our money and fly to every persons house who calls himself a brony and kick him in the dick. After he looks up at us and wonders why, we will tell them. That is a stupid word and you need to stop hiding behind it you little twerp. Every single kick to the brony dick will start a war and that will be our slogan. Find out where they live and spray the word brony in blood on their place of business. I will kick their friends, their parents, there bosses, anybody they know in the dick. Strap them down saw style and ram a brohoof right up their ass. Have the tears come streaming down their lame little brony faces I will laugh. Everybody has a right to like what they enjoy, we don't make up lame names for ourselves in order to like it. Rally your troops and kick these avatar trendy bastards in the dick

chant with me. EVERY SINGLE KICK TO THE BRONY DICK, EVERY SINGLE KICK TO THE BRONY DICK.
So we make a name up for the fans of the show, it's called originality. Something you don't have using an idea from "Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back". Burn *****....... snap!

*Goes back about his business*.

I'm actually predicitng non-bronies will be seeing a lot less pony than they did during season 1. Now that there are pony sites set up and most bronies have found their way into a brony group, pony conversation should stay rather contained on pony-centric sites. Why talk about ponies here when you can go to EqD and get a chatroom full of bronies?
