I'm sure you've all heard of the latest Sonic game, Sonic Unleashed. I'm also pretty sure some of you are skeptical about whether it will be a GOOD Sonic game or not,god knows we've had a good one for ages. I think Sonic Unleashed could be the transplant needed to bring the franchise back to life.

Latest gameplay of Sonic Unleashed: http://uk.xbox360.ign.com/dor/objects/14242719/sonic-unleashed/videos/sonic_unleased_trailer_061608.html

Tell me what you think. Do you think Sonic will make a comeback? or will this be the final nail in the coffin for the likeable mascot?

Its kind of a toss up. Honestly I thoguht the "adventure" series was pretty good, but that was then, I guess this is now. I read that this game has a new director which is probobly why it looks so different from "recent" games. My guess is it will spark a lot of hype, not live up to it like everyone wants it to, but will ultimatly be a pretty good game " a step in the right direction"

on a personal note, I really like the surealistic look they have going, also the sparkly grinding is back :D I am happy now.

You mean like Halo 3, except that was a step back.

While I love Sonic to death, I honestly hope this is the end of his franchise.

He's done enough, really, and is one of the kings of platforming right up there with Mario. However, there's only so far you can go with a game. Too much effort is being spent in re-hashing old franchises like Sonic and Mario, so really I want this to be the big bang with which Sonic goes out.

It looks like they've made a 2.5d platformer Crash Bandicoot style. But with Sonics speed, could be good. But could also go the way of every sonic game of the last decade and be another generic 3-d platformer...

I gotta say, that looks terrible.

The video itself is stable enough, when it's the computer playing Sonic perfectly, but from the small bits of gameplay I saw, the game looks like a really boring racer where you're the only car, and furthermore it looks hard to control.

One thhing i saw there that scares me: QUICK TIME EVENTS. Granted, in a Sonic game they'd sort of make sense but there were some that only showed up for one or two FRAMES. Granted it's a video so we have no idea how much time it gives the player to hit the button. Like Yahtzee said in his Uncharted: Drake's Fortune review, though, if done right, QTE's can be acceptable, but all too often, they're done wrong. Tread with caution.

I'm wondering where the interactivity is?

The side scrolling sections looked very much like "let springs and boost plates propel you around the level, with minimal interaction", and the behind view looked like QTE city.

I propose that the developers of this game be strapped to chairs and forced to play Sonic 1, 2, and 3 until they get it.

yes, that's what i noticed the most. If i die because i missed a quick-time button press that lasted for .0932 seconds, then that's where i draw the line.

It does look interesting though, and it does go back to the sheer speed that the sonic games were all about. Could be that blood transfusion the series needed.

And i don't know why, but i really (REALLY) like the music. It's way better than all of that other pop-crap-hip thing on previous Sonic games.

I think a good idea for Sonic would be to go old-school with it, as a 2-D side scroller, and release it for $12-$15 on XBLA, WiiWare, and PSN. I could get into some Sonic if it was like the first couple iterations, but with new levels.

I think the quick time events would work pretty well in sonic, granted they dont = instant death, just hinderance "which luckily, looks like whats going on"

I have to say it looks a lot better now then when they released the older footage a while back

I honestly think that there is a simple solution to the QTE problem in games to day... Just slow it down, only a little bit.
If we can actually see the event comeing rather than juat a 123go then the events would be much more enjoyable.

But we're talking about a series that bases itself on nothing but speed, so the odds of them doing anything to slow that little bugger down are essentially one to a billion.

Hmm...I don't know. Sonic died once it went 3D for me. But this game does seem to have got the speed right. This will probley be something I rent for £5 in 4 years time and think "muh..that was cool"

Looks like they brought his speed back, but it looks so bland. It seems like there's no challenge. Basically just a slightly-interactive movie, where he just runs and runs and runs, and you tell him to take the path to the right instead of the straight one.

At least there is that Sonic RPG coming out because that looks pretty awful.

Also why did Sonic music get so bad? On the Megadrive the Sonic tunes were massive. Now it's become this J-Pop drippy piss.

Put him back on Mobius, away from the "real world" to the days when Sonic games were fun.

I've lost the thrill of playing Sega games these days, they feel and sound to much like arcade games. Not into that anymore, i prefer more serious feel games.

As for the new sonic. I think it looks OK. Nothing to special tho, looks kinda like the Wii game but on ps3 and 360 with it's High Definition graphics.

Glad they have gone back to fast game play, thats what sonic is all about. I still feel that they could go faster tho.

BRING ON MORE SPEED!

EDIT: spelling and grammar.

The latest trailer I saw of this Sonic game was fantastic. He's returned to his best form - flat out, full speed ahead!

I'm really hoping this is the goods. Poor Sonic hasn't been getting the justice he deserves.
