Run. Just f***ing run.

Dumb question,
What is a Higgs Boson, and why have these people spent $320million a year for almost two decades on it? What would/could be achieved if these guys found what they were looking for?

"Well, we spent 5.5 billion dollars and 17 years but we did it. I guess that leaves us only one option...PARTAAAY!!"

And that, my friends, is how the end of the world begins. A bunch of drunk smart guys around the largest particle accelerator in the world...what could possibly go wrong?

I just decided to take the time to super-ultra snip you guys and tell you all that each one of you guys' comments on this site made me chuckle inside and honestly brightened a test-anxiety-filled evening. Thank you, guys. I could have just lol'd and left but I figured I had to tell you guys that your memes and lulz do actually get appreciated by people. Hope I made your e-penises bigger. +20 internets to you all. Goodnight.

Science is cool and all, but imagine how we could have helped developing countries with 5.5 Billion frickin dollars. It's a little bit more important than satisfying our curiosity no? I'm a science fanboy, but come on.

To be fair, the advancement of science tends to lead to better ways to help people. Any investment in science is a good one.

And to be honest, $5.5 billion for a science experiment isn't all that much when compared to the other kinds of spending in, say, the US.
Better than making defense contractors rich in order to preserve "democracy" or "freedom" yah.

I think Captcha is up to something!
so, the Internet is gonna visit the LHC?

that can't be good

that can't be good at all
Oh God. Hide the Japanese school girls! They will be helpless against whatever the internet is up to. My bet is awakening Cthulhu.

OT: We can speculate all we want, but I'm sure that we'll hear about this all soon enough. My money is on this only being the beginning of the experiments. Likely, even if we were 100% correct (don't hold your breath), there will only be more questions to be answered.

The Portal is almost complete! Soon we shall be able to bring more old ones here to do battle with Cthulhu and his compatriots Godzilla style!

Question: Just where do you think the ability of the developed countries to help others to the extent that we do came from? Hint: It did not come from putting off discovery and technological advancement until all the world's problems were solved with sticks, rocks, and fire.
