Onyx from Pokemon Yellow.

He's stronger than any of your Pokemons. You can't kill him other than Tail Whipping for few rounds, having 6 pokemons (so you beat him using numbers, not skill or time...) and then healing, healing, healing yourself while his health SLOOOWLY drops. Oh, and your Eletro attacks don't work. At all.
Not really. Get Pikachu to level 15, and then just double team the hell out of him. I guarantee he will always miss you.
Well, that's the point of my hatred - I have to GRIIIIIIIND on low level pokemons to get to a higher level.

And that's pointless and stupid.

Selvaria in Valkyria chronicles

Seriously, if you dont have the 'awaken potential' order, its nearly impossible to beat her, you have to just flamehrower her [which she dodges] and hope you get undodgable shot a few times.
If she's still alive by the end of your turn she heals herself COMPLETLEY!
oh and her counter attacks can kill you in one hit if you're unlucky...¬_¬

Anything that flies in the NES Ninja Gaiden series.

Trying to actually beat Turok 1 or 2 on N64 without cheats. I don't think I ever even finished an entire level--they were so poorly designed.

Trying to beat the cave command center level on the hardest difficulty in Goldeneye. Friggin' Natalya and her friggin' dying all the time.

At the current moment its Seth on SFIV...Hes one cheap S.O.B!

Another that springs to mind is the Epilogue from COD4(Veteran)..not really a boss but in the time I've had it (from release) i STILL havent got past it on veteran difficulty :( Then again I havent tried it for about a year lol.

That boss...its so...ARGH!!!
Why would anyone play that game? And did the developers even think for a second that they were being fair?

Any throw-based AI character from Street Fighter 4.

Jinpachi was annoying at times, but I could beat him pretty easily on occasion.

Alpha whats-her-face from DOA4 is damned cheap with that teleport counter and those 15-second throws that can interrupt your attacks.

Yunalesca was a ***** until you figured out how to finish off her third form. Start with all your aeons in overdrive and Zombieproof stuff on your main party. When her second form is almost dead, take all your zombieproof stuff off and allow her to zombify you. Cast Reflect on your guys and survive Megadeath. Then just OVERDRIVEOVERDRIVEOVERDRIVE until she dies. If you fail...hurray, another 5 minute cutscene for you!

I'll now complain about Empire At War.

Rebel Artillery. Their rockets are friggin' powerful, the rockes home in, they can crush infantry and scout speeders under their threads and they also naturally have a long range. Also, most of the time you'll notice them after they've fired a rocket barrage at you, when it's ofcourse too late to move your unit out of the way. AI also likes to spam these units. For some weird reason, Empire doesn't use their artillery at all.

Also, Rebel Torpedo Frigates in the expansion. They're so fast and small that turbo lasers can't hit them, they can outrun missiles and torpedoes most of the time and normal lasers hardly harm them. Fighters, bombers, capital ships and everything else have hard time attacking them because of their speed. Also, the ships have laser guns (anti-fighter) and a special ability to deploy cluster bombs (also anti-fighter thing, except way more powerful). Is it weak? Well, it's armour is. But the shields, the friggin' shields! Oh, you almost got the shields down? Oh look, now it runs away and will soon come back with full shields, like nothing had just happened! Also, tractor beam just slows it slightly! You need two tractor beams to actually slow one down. Does AI like to spam these units? Sure as hell does! I had battles where Rebels had more Torpedo Frigates than fighter groups! They just keep on coming! Wave after wave after wave! It's like Rebels got their military doctrine from Soviet Union!

The best way to destroy those hellspawns is to use the Death Star. You can't outrun the superlaser, bitches!

SW: Empire At War: Forces of Corruption? More like, Forces of Frustration!

I have a better tactic. Get a Butterfree. Spam Confusion. He dies in two or three hits.

Oh, man. I got so pissed off when I was having a crapton of trouble with him (on Easiest even), then my friend took the controller from me and beat him by rapidly tapping light punch as Blanka (electric shock).

Later we were laughing our asses off as I found out the trick extended to everyone. AI on Easiest is... dumb.

All that said, I can't beat him on Medium. Friggin' Yoga Teleport spamming Zangief Piledriving cheater... Still not as hard as Gill though.

Sephiroth from Kingdom Hearts 1.

He had a shield around him so you can't make a hit on him. It turns off for 2 seconds at some point, but then he decides it would be more fun to use more powerful attacks. This is a real pain on the hardest difficulty.
All the bosses in Kingdom Hearts pissed me off...

Fun fact: Thats actually an entire genre of games in Japan, a genre which, translated, is basically "bullet hell". They seem to be fairly popular over there too.

Anyway, I usually manage to run into a few frustrating enemies in every game, but the two that stand out the most in my mind would have to be Metal Sonic and whatever Robotnik's mecha thing was at the end of Sonic and Tails (aka Sonic 2). Had to face two of the hardest bosses yet and with no rings...fun. Don't think I've run into such a difficult situation as that since. Metal Sonic in particular since jumping on it at the wrong time meant death...

Vegas 2, a game that seemingly was custom-bred to piss off the player, may not have had a boss in the traditional sense, but that combat chopper still kicked the player's ass enough that it might as well have been.

The chopper was mean. Not only could you not kill it with anything less than scripted events, it could (and did) wipe out any and all of your cover. Let me rephrase that: In a game where the only way to survive was to take cover, the final segment had a chopper that not only destroyed that cover, but you along with it if you were in the wrong place. And the only way to know the difference between the wrong place and the right place was to see if it blew you up.

.
Gotta agree, horribly annoying game and the ridiculous trial and error gameplay was a cheap trick I thought developers grew out of in the 80s.

Lol I love annoying enemies. Well not really, but I'm glad I'm not alone at yelling at cheap tactics. Funny how so many of these enemies are from fighting games. That's why I try to stay away from 'em. I've beaten Jinpachi a couple of times, through sheer luck.
The Gears2 Leviathan was annoying and felt stupid IMO.
Ive beaten COD4 fully on Vet including the epilogue, but it was just stupid. I hate the way COD handles difficulty, just making them shoot about a 1000 times more accurately and you have no health whatsoever.
I hate confusion in so many games, like Baldurs Gate, damn I hate mages and dryads.
I have more, but I cant think now.
Pretty much anything that makes you just trial and error and not skill to win is the antithesis of fun.

How has noone mentioned the final bosses in the Dead or Alive series? Like the Goo Kasumi in 4 that has a throw that takes a half of your health bar in one hit?

Oh God! Alpha 153? She pissed the fuck outta me. I actually wished she was real, just so i could come up behind her, and brain her with a chair, then finish her off with a trowel.

Or you could just catch a Mankey and low kick the crap out of him. You can catch him in the grass west of Viridian, on route 22, before Victory road. Has the type advantage and doesn't need much training. Low kick does damage based on weight of the enemy, and Onyx is a giant rock snake. There ya go.

I have never been so enraged at a final boss as I have been recently at Seth the overpowered, cheap git. I nearly punched my TV because of him.

Just catch a mankee to lv 9 for low kick, male nidoran to lv 12 or so for double kick because fighting> rock, or a butterfree at lv 10 for confusion and your can sleep through Brock's entire team
