I know how maligned those particular sub-genres are, though I do have a weak spot for a band called Oceano.

Yeah so many generes so little time..... but just gotta go underground for the good stuff. and oceano....... thats with the black singer isnt it.....

Indeed. It's the only extreme metal band I can think of that isn't a whiteout.

Eh there stuff is ok... pantera is considered to have started the extreme metal genere which is weird @.@

I completely forgot about Amon Amarth. Also, for consideration, Nile.

Technical death metal, for the most part. Otherwise, I listen to thrash and Nu-metal if I'm listening to metal, at the time.

Oh, yeah, I also listen to a few black metal bands(Absu).

Any bands in particular that you enjoy?

Also, try listening to Severed Savior. They are excellent.

Death, Opeth, Necrophagist, Pestilence(Mind spheres is a great album), Autopsy and Morbid Angel, to name a few.

I've heard of them, I think. I'll give them a shot. Also, if you haven't heard anything by Fleshgod Apocalypse, they're pretty good.

I LOVE Fleshgod Apocalypse.

Yeah, I heard a few songs of theirs and was addicted.

you probably get this a lot but have you heard anything by Cynic? More specifically, their "Traced in Air" album? It has strong jazz elements.

You should try listening to Isis or Pelican. The former has vocals, the latter does not.

Death and thrash are my favourite genres, though my favourite bands are Fear Factory and Mastodon. I'll be seeing Iron Maiden in a few days...

As for what I DON'T like, metalcore. Ugh. Five Finger Death Punch and Bullet For My Valentine really are loathsomely bad. And the FANS.
