I think I'm the only one who feels this way but I HATED Assassins Creed 2, I fell in love with the first game but for some reason i couldn't stand the second one. I didn't even have fun or enjoy playing it, only game I've ever bought and never finished
I think reading that made me die a little inside. I'm not angry or anything just... a little less alive inside.

OT: Yugioh: Duelist of the roses. What? I haven't played many average games.

Uhm. I'm not the only one concerned that a guy got a warning for including Arkham Asylum in his list, right?

OP: Killzone has always struck me as one of these. Decent shooter, with decent multiplayer and decent community, equipped with a decent soundtrack and decent voice acting. And decent visuals.
Can't speak for sales, though, but I'm decently certain they were decent.

I would go with games like Battle for Middle-earth and Star Wars Empire at War. They're solid games overall, but pale in comparison to the big contenders of the RTS genre. As I recall they both got 75-85 reviews, which I think counts as average considering how binary professional reviews tend to be.

I have to honestly say Halo (the first one). I played it with my brothers and was amazingly underwhelmed. It wasn't terrible or anything, but it certainly didn't live up to the massive amounts of hype and lavish praise people were heaping on it at the time.

Haze on PS3.

It was fine, there was an attempt at story, it wasn't bad looking, it had decent gameplay elements which were unique and I hear the vehicles weren't too bad.

No one I know of loves it.

Troll reported. If you're not a troll, I'd suggest having a look at some GOTY awards for last year and reading the OP.
You'd really report someone for having a different opinion than you? Really?
Cry harder, dick.
"It also can't be a game other people really like or hate with a passion (Halo, for instance). I'm talking about a game that is perfectly adequate, performs exactly as expected, and is received averagely in sales and reviews."

It's good to see how many people are willing to read a five sentence prompt before posting. T_T

Okay, so I won't say Halo, umm, Prince of Persia (2008)? Okay, that doesn't meet the credentials either, umm, I can't do this without my own objective opinion...

Wasn't bad, wasn't fantastic, but good enough to be played and enjoyed. Story was good, but maybe the game wasn't long enough for it to be fleshed out properly, but the ending was interesting. Action was fun, but not too in-depth or complex, some variety in it with puzzles, although not too challenging, and not a breeze in one attempt either. Models, world and graphics looks good but not amazing, overall just sits in that spot for me. Average-good game.

Ok I know you said not to mention the Halo franchise because people like it. But from my perspective I thought the games were pretty darn average. Not bad, I'm not going to jump up and yell to the heavans that it's a load of crap. Just mediocre.
EDIT: And why aren't we able to include games like "Halo", If one honestly felt the game was average let them speak there mind.

One, I'd appreciate you not calling me a dick. I wasn't crying, just trying to improve the forum community by either a) getting more people to read the OP or b) removing trolls.

Two, read the OP:

Hey guys, everyone always talks about the best and worst games, but which one do you think is the most exceptionally average? (oxymoron intended)

It also can't be a game other people really like or hate with a passion (Halo, for instance). I'm talking about a game that is perfectly adequate, performs exactly as expected, and is received averagely in sales and reviews.

I'm trying to think of a good example, but I can't think of one for the life of me. Can you think of anything that fits these qualifications?
Then read my post. Arkham Asylum was critically acclaimed and the OP specifically states no Halo.

So yeah. It helps to be right when you're on a moral high horse.

The last two COD games, and probably CODMW3 were both pretty mediocre.
The MOST mediocre game i've ever played was The Saboteur. Nothing wrong with it, but it didn't do anything new.

When you mention a game that everyone else loved or hated and say it was average, what you're really talking about is how the game was disappointing or over/underrated. I was trying to find a game that is neither bad, good, overrated, underrated, disappointing, pleasantly surprising, or anything similar. (don't ask me why, it's for an argument I'm having with a friend :3)

Sorry
Halo is average to me
That's just my opinion
Had I have read what the topics creator had written I would never have written what I did.

PacMan. It's notable for historic relevance and might have been fantastic at one time but seems to have been downgraded to solid and average now-a-days.

Any mainstream game on the Wii is mostly average, other than fitness games because sport isn't a game it's a form of torture.

Also, Dragon Age 2 which would have been considered average if it weren't for all the hype that made it incredibly disappointing.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, or maybe something like Gauntlet on the N64.
Ultimate Alliance 2 wasn't as good as the first and probably killed any chance of their being a third but I liked it. I had enjoyed it and really need to get it back. I enjoyed the characters but hated how I didn't recognize any of the villains (the ones you fight anyway).

Now that I think about it, Ultimate Alliance was pretty average too. Sure you fight Galactus but I didn't think the Galactus fight wasn't really all that epic.

Final note: Star Wars the Force Unleashed. Could have been great but could have been much, much worse.

Call of Duty games.
I mean, they're not as horrible as some people let on. They're just...Meh. Kinda fun with a group of friends.

Other candidates:
Disgaea series (Freaking hilarious, yeah. But hasn't done anything new or interesting since 2)
Transformers: War For Cybertron (I was hoping for something a bit more akin to the Armada game. What I got was alright, I guess)
Prototype (I don't really have a reason. I just used it as a timewaster when I was bored)

I was going to say halo 2, since after the first one it just felt... average, as a lot of the things halo did were already being copied by so many other developers at the time... but I guess that's not allowed... so I will instead choose Brink because even though it has a whole lot of awesome stuff in it... it just feels... so average in every other way... I mean I play it every once in awhile... but it's not really remarkable to me... sure the movement system is freakin awesome... it's just that the game FEELS so uninteresting most of the time... just feels like ANOTHER team based tactical shooter with level-y achievements and such...

I keep coming back to this. Dark Sector was so mediocre a game that I still despise it to this day. I mean honestly, how on earth does anyone manage to make decapitations uninteresting?

Probably the first Lost Planet. It wasn't bad, but I found it really forgettable.

Another would be WET. I expected to at least have a little more fun with it than most people did, but it was just meh.

Also, Call of Duty 2.
I'm sorry, but I found it boring for the most part. I actually like the newer COD games better

Alpha Protocol was a very average game. I remember thinking that it was exactly what it promised, with no real flash. Had the same problem I have with every RPG - you don't get all the cool abilities until the end.
