One of the few (female) game characters that really seemed to live. Clever, strong and with a killer smile.
It was honestly refreshing to see a strong-female lead in a game that wasn't some air-headed bimbo, ultra-butch tom-girl, or plucky side-kick. Alyx felt like a real person. A believable character, if you will.
Plus, they didn't portray her like most female characters in video-games.
As for my pick, besides Alyx and others that have been listed, I'll go with:

Oh, she's attractive to be sure. I just ignore that because her attractiveness is completely deliberate, both in terms of her character design and backstory.
