Somekind of secret boss fight if I remember correctly... hugh!
He was in the first and I'm pretty sure the second. I never played the second but I beat him in the first. I had to get Sora to level 70-something to take his ass down. Very hard fight but satisfying once you win.
Yeah, Sephiroth was a secret battle in both games and probably the hardest in each (save for some of the ridiculous stuff in the Japanese Final Mix, with Roxas and whatnot.)

In which game he was more difficult is a matter of opinion, but I think the first, because he was cheaper. It took figuring out a very specific attack pattern to even touch him, and then you needed to wail on him for a good two minutes (depending on your level) to make his health bar even start to dip (and he had five of them, six including the invisible one.) By the end of the battle he had attacks that were beyond impossible to block or dodge, so you just had to frantically heal and hope to sneak in a chip attack now and then.

In the second game he had FIFTEEN health bars, but due to reaction commands and Sora's generally upgraded skills, it was actually an easier fight, even on the Expert difficulty. There was still a good degree of trial and error, and most of his attacks were basically insta-kills (the perks that let you hang on to a sliver of life no matter what were beyond essential), but with the right skills you could knock the silver-haired, silver-tongued punk into the air and wail on him for a good dozen or so hits, then repeat. It was actually possible to beat him without even getting touched, but it was much easier to let him launch you (which did very little damage), then strike back and pound away.

Of course, both battles were much easier if you had the patience (and boredom) to grind Sora into the 80s level-wise.

Almost every boss on the European Extreme difficulties on Metal Gear Solid 2&3. The Fury and the Fear in particular took me so long to beat because I never had enough tranquilizer ammo.
Dude, if you want a tranq kill for The Fear, just chuck a bunch of poisoned/rotten food around and wait for him to eat it all like a moron. Then drill him with one traq and you win. It's a must on any speed-run for the Spider camo.

The Fury, I admit, I have only tranq-ed out on Hard, never Extreme. Maybe I'll go back someday. It is my favorite game ever.

3rd Deus Ex Boss, without augmentations or any upgraded weapons (I was doing a no kill run and just sold all my upgrade kits)... I died in pretty much 1 hit and had to slowly crawl through the battle saving once every minute... Took me about 2 hours.
Ummm...then this might make you mad.

Actually, no way that can make you mad. That still makes me crack up.
No... fucking... way.

My first playthrough I *SPOILER* had accepted the tainted chip from the Limb clinic prior to, so I had to face him with no augs and very little fire power (was going for Pacifist.) I nearly thought it was unwinnable. I scoured the interwebz for help and NEVER saw this!! WTF! I eventually made it through, but there were tears... lots of tears... so many tears....

This is why I like Zelda bosses so much. They are really just giant puzzles that can kill you.
meh, cept once you know how to 'solve' the puzzle they cease to be a challenge, at that point they might as well just be normal enemy's that take a little longer to kill
How does that not make sense though? If you solve any kind of puzzle, you progress past it. I don't see a problem here.

Borderland's Crawmerax. I know he's an optional boss and thank Christ for that.

Bed of Chaos in Dark Souls. Sure, Ornstein & Smough were tough, but at least beating them wasn't based entirely off of a luck. With Bed of Chaos, you have to just get lucky and hope the thing doesn't send you flying into a bottomless pit.

You are correct. He was one of the "special" bosses in the coliseum. I never managed to beat him in the original game, but I was quite happy when I took him down (FINALLY) in II.
That boss was fun. Sure, it was frustrating, but it was never "crappy".
The arena champion fights with the two giants and Sephiroth were one of the highlights of that game, to me at least.
I remember being so proud when I defeated Sephiroth.

Those fucking stone gargoyles in Dark Souls who defend the Undead Church's roof with such fanatical skill that I screamed "FUCK THIS!!!!" and traded the game in.
You rage quit on that boss? Damn, those guys were easy. Roll to the side against any of their attacks. Just put some lightning to your weapon or use the Drake sword off the tail of the drake defending the bridge and that shit is a cake walk.

You didn't even get to see Dragonslayer Ornstein & Executioner Smough. You fight them both at the same time, and the one you kill powers up the survivor. You would be perfectly within your rights to rage quit on that bullshit. But Maneaters 2.0? Really?
I literally could not get past them! I rolled and doged and side-stepped and ran and I would always die horribly! I can reduce the first one to half-health and then his mate comes and the two of them just set fire to me and, my own personal favorite, knock me off the roof!

Dark Sun Gwyndolin from Dark Souls. Stupidly easy once you learn what attack s/he is gonna use and when. Rising up? Arrows. Fast arm moving? Multiple homing magic bullshit. Slow arm moving? Single fast non-homing magic bullshit.

And s/he teleports away. A lot.

Like.

Holy shit that's awesome!

I actually didn't think the boss fights were all that bad. Let's be honest, there are only 4 bosses you really can't avoid killing, and while it's disappointing to see them die at a set point in time, the fights themselves were kind of fun.

That said, for me it was a game of dodge-and-typhoon, since I'd already heard about the bossfights before I played the game and except for the first one they all have built-in avoidance tactics.

Fus Ro Dah him back...really. Throw fire at him afterwards and summon shit (regardless of whether your conjuration, just to distract him. :D
My most irritating boss was probably ____ <--- spoiler Mages guild boss.
Harder than it sounds, considering there's three of him if this is the same guy I vsed. Then, you go to the final temple in that quest, and there's five or six of him, all FUS RO DAHing you all over the place. They even pushed me out of map bounds due to about 1 of them shouting me into a corner, and the rest then pounding me when I was in that corner. Oh, and summoned stuff isn't really effective. I don't know why, but this guy can one or two hit them. Its crazy. My strategy for beating him was to hide in one of the small alcoves he couldn't see and keep shooting at him with crap. Eventually killed him.

Haven't done the mages guild boss yet, too busy with my over 9000 other quests that every bugger wants to give me. This explains my feelings well when it gets to the 5 second or so town quest giving bit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tlC6Z0iRoOA

Hiruko from the Playstation 2 version of Shinobi:

I Hate you Hiruko!...No, I LOATHE you! I Loathe you so much that if i was able to, i would LOATHE you to death and then LOATHE your fucking spirit into non-existence. You people have NO idea how satisfying it was to end this fucker after so many failed attempts.

ZOE2 there was one boss that you had to grab to hurt, because if you didn't it'd kill some chick it captured.

To this day I still can't beat it w/o cheating...even on easy mode.

Rest of the game? Fine, hard on hard mode, but I can still beat the rest of it.

Just-that-one-frelling-boss!
You have to try and attack as she attacks to 'clash' swords and then immediately grab her. Took me like 20 attempts to do it right, fucking gives you bout a quarter second to react. I would probably second this, I beat her but fuck did it take awhile.

Flamelurker. He will rape your soul.

Here is some lucky son-of-a-***** who beat him. This boss is so fucking dumb.

This. I was fine after my first playthrough, but on the first time. This. Fucking. Much. In his health bar. Then I die. And lose my crapload of souls.
Many a ragequit was to be had that day.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution-bosses were shit. Didn't fit with the rest of the game at all and were frustrating in a bad way*.

*If you want to see something that's frustrating in a good way, try Abyssion from Tales of Symphonia. He's a completely optional boss and he's so overpowered it's not even funny, but he's still my favorite boss ever.

FFXI Absolute Virtue pre-76+ when players weren't broken. What. The. Fuck. Kind. Of. Boss. Is. That?!

Honorable mention to Pandemonium Warden from the same game. Also, Alma on the hardest difficulty in Ninja Gaiden for the XBox. I did manage to beat her in one go once but God help you if you walk into that fight without preparation.

Ah yes, the FUS RO DAH Draugr ... I hate his guts ...

Also, the second Boss in DX:HR. I had no freaking clue what to do, so I just spammed her with my machine gun until she died.

My most bullcrap boss would have to be the final boss of Dirge of Cerberus. I beat him in less than 2 minutes by walking in a wide circle and shooting. That is all. After the awesome challenge that was Weiss, the final boss was like a slap in the face. Way to go out on a low note, guys.
i'm afraid i can't agree with you, i never could figure out how to even damage that bloody monstrosity. in top of that, i always ran out of ammo. with no way to replenish it, i declared that the producers made an impossible final boss to troll me, and i left it unfinished.
