The most monotonous game you have ever played

Go Dai: Elemental Forces for PS2
You have 3 types of attack animations with which to attack 4 types of enemies.
There were only 4 spells each of which you had to earn by completing an entire area, and 3 projectiles.
It was based around a lives system with no checkpoints though you could earn continues, so dying without a continue meant going all the way back to the start of the stage.
That and since the game was just awfully built in the first place dying was easy and killing anything was just painful.
There was no in game story, the whole game was just going to be, beat these four areas in order to beat the fifth and win the game, yes it was so painful and monotonous that i gave up after the first area.

I may be alone in this...

Magna Carta.

Even the characters seem bored enough they sound like they want to drill holes in their eyes.

Final fantasy 7. I am considering sueing square enix for that 4 and a half hours of my time back. Everyone else loved it so i tried really hard to like that game but no such epiphany was reached. I would say mother 3 but i only played that game for like 15 minutes off of a ROM before deciding that it was garbage and calculator games where programmed better so my hatred of it doesn't ascend very far.

Star Ocean: The Last Hope

Run around, skip the long cutscenes, ignore the dull characters, get into a fight, press the same 2 buttons repeatedly, lather, wash repeat.

Shenmu II. Don't know what the deal was but being the only non-halo game we had at my college dorm, I always attempted to play it in times of extreme boredom and always quit 15 minutes in because it was only making things worse.

Halo, by far. I thought I'd finished the library level about three times, then I just gave up on it.

Hack and slash RPGs like Diablo II and Titan Quest, it's the same thing the whole time, walk into cave\dungeon\temple\whatever kill everything, get loot walk out. Doesn't stop me from playing them though.

Also, to the people bitching about Monopoly not having any strategy, if you think that you're doing it wrong or you're just complaining because you're not very good. I've seen more than one game completely change in less than 10 turns. A lot of it comes down to knowing which properties to buy(Park Place and Boardwalk aren't on the list either.).

Halo. I honestly can't be bothered to finish it, despite the fact that I haven't bought any new games in the past 5 or 6 months.

Assassins Creed was fun but SOOOOO repetitive, seriously I go as far as putting the disc in before saying to myself ooo "I could play AC or i could clip my toe nails.... I think I'll go with clipping my toe nails"

Diablo 2, every so often I reinstall it only to play it and realize how much I hate the repetition.
Play Sacred. They thought if some Diablo is good 10x more is better. That game was a slog.

Monopoly.
Damn right.

Monopoly is fucking awful, it's always completely obvious from about halfway through the game who's going to win, but it takes another two or so hours for it to actually grind out to the end.

And there are very few possible strategies, because it's entirely random roll and move, so there's no actual engagement or interest in playing it.
Monopoly is better when you are:
A.) Drunk
B.) Really, really tired
C.) Finding a way to incorperate it into Risk, or Axis and Allies. (By incorporate I mean forget all about.)

Call of Duty 4.... whoops did I just say that out loud?
Guess I did.

I didn't really HATE Call of Duty 4, and overall the action was decent at points but it kept making me lose interest.
Another game that I think is alright but not breathtaking is Half Life 2, I hate those physics puzzles and there are more than a few points where I just plain got stuck. Finally the enemy AI had only two functions:
1. Stand there and shoot at me
2. Run at me.

To be fair I haven't gotten past the 'escape from city 17' yet. In fact I'm at that point where there are all these headcrabs and the ground is radioactive. I have no idea what to do and the story is so confusing that I don't have much reason to push on.
But push on I will, for I... have a crush an Alyx Vance. Plus I like Vortigaunts.

Phantasy Star Online. And do you what... I don't care.
Agreed, 100%.
But for some reason I still loved it.
Because I somehow still loved Diablo.
And I somehow managed to play WoW for a little over a year. Lololol.

They're grindy, repetitive, stupid, monotonous, and pointless, but at the time, I guess I REALLY DID WANNA KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO RED RING RICO! ;P

Anyway, there's a lot of contestants up for this...but I'm gonna go with Diablo because there really is no endgame. "MF to get gear to MF better to get gear to gear a char to duel, to duel better, until you have enough disposable interchangeable currency that you just switch to whatever character you feel like playing by liquidating your current assets and replacing them."

Which gets boring. ;)
