The Most Over-Rated Band

I'm cool with this thread as long as people don't start arguing about opinions...
personaly I never got it with the beatles
but they had an effect on music in a big and pretty positive way, much like Nivarna, who I'm not going to bother defending
I find 90% of band's these days seem over rated, am I just getting old :/
I scream learn music and throw shit at my tv when ever I turn to my once faithfull friend scuzz these days
I liked the first 2 MCR album's and I was supprised not to see there name come up a bit more often here, not cos I agree, just cos there a big band alot of people hate!

Definetely U2. Songs are glorified pop-rock, with less than intelligent lyrics.

To anyone who has seen "It Might Get Loud", how much does U2's guitarist 'The Edge' (Douchebag name) just look way out of his depth jamming with Jack White and Jimmy Page.

I've seen that film and I agree. Watch The Edge's face when Page starts jamming out "Whole Lotta Love", he's like "goddamn holy shit wish I could do that" and the riff's something a beginner guitar student could do.

The Beatles are definitely overrated in terms of the quality of their actual musical output but they were certainly important for the development of popular music overall. Please kill me before I willing put on a Beatles record at home though.

I'm probably pick 2Pac as the more overrated individual performer, there's no way anyone would give a shit about his music if he hadn't died young, and in fact his musical legacy contributed substantially to rap music's gradual decline into sappy R&B-influenced slop.

If I must go with a physical band though, I'd probably pick Tool. Their music is everything that was ponderous and boring about 70s prog rock combined with the "gosh we're really making a difference aren't we" pretentiousness of the grunge era.

Agreed. I doubt most of the people saying The Beatles are overrated have heard more than a few of their songs. Okay, you've heard "Come Together," "Hey Jude," and "Let It Be" (all of which are amazing songs.) They had over 300 songs. Sure, a lot of it was... not revolutionary - I'm looking at you, Ringo - but they were easily one of the most revolutionary bands of all time. Saying they're overrated is like saying the wheel is overrated.



But, on topic, Kesha. If you're going to "dance like you're dumb," at least sing like you are, too, please, you drunk skank.

It's all contextual. My best band ever is probably not the same as yours, and in fact you may think mine is garbage, thus making it over rated. And vice versa.

This is the problem inherent with tastes and opinions.

Metallica doesn't make bad music, nor are they not talented, but to be honest I don't think their 30 minute songs are enjoyable. I can only listen to songs from a certain genre for so long before I get tired of them and move to another one.

And DragonForce is pretty lame too. They're talented but speed metal was never my kind of music.

Whoa, you think Metallica's songs are long, don't ever listen to Dream Theater 0_o And yes, Dragonforce is the shittiest metal band ever created, they prove that you can be extremely technical and still not know anything about how to make good songs.

OT: I agree with the Beatles, simply because they were the most popular group in history and anything they made simply cannot live up to that amount of popularity no matter how good it was.

Also Coldplay. They're ok, but they're pretty much a modern-day U2 - all their songs sound the same and have obnoxious amounts of echo.

I will defend Metallica by saying that they were probably the most influential band in the extreme metal genre and that their best works were released when they weren't enjoying extreme amounts of popularity. I will not defend the fact that they themselves as a band are NOT the best metal artists of all time and they should stop being treated as such.

I don't like the hate for the Beatles on this thread. I doubt any of you people hating on them have actually a heard a great majority of their music. They didn't just have a single style of music. One could argue that every major album that they did sounds completely different, but one could also argue that every song they did was different from the last. They have an evolution of styles over the course of many years. If you don't like them, than you obviously don't know what good music is. That said, they aren't my # 1 favorite band, but I don't doubt their revolutionary talent.

Never had much love for the beatles, i guess they were something new way back when, but now they just don't have an impact. It probably doesn't help that my girlfriends dad is a massive fanboy and berates me for not liking them (he really kicked off when i said John Lennon was better on his own).

Oh, and i despise the popularity and music of Bring me the Horizon, they're terrible, both musically and attitude wise, and if people judge metal as a genre because of them its no wonder people think the people who listen to metal are retards. Seriously, i don't mind a bit of Metalcore every so often but the mere mention of their name makes me rage.

I used to like them somewhat until all those newly acquired fans who sprung up due to his suicide, decided to shove all this love for the band down everyones throat and proclaim them to be the best band, the most influential band, blah blah blah. Nope people, you're wrong. They were slightly less then okay and had very limited musical talent. Cobain knew three chords and their drummer had more talent in his big toe than the rest of the band combined which I guess would just be the yet mentioned shitty bassist Chris Novoselic and the super emo lead singer.

My best friends cousin is actually in that band, and even he hates them. Hahaha. The only redeeming value is that they were largely featured in Degrassi High: The Next Generation. Manny ftw.

I agree with you. I can see that they were influential and they were obviously doing something right to be so successful, but in terms of technical ability they just weren't that great in my eyes.

Over-rated? Pop Stars don't count as we hate them all! Hell what does quality/depth even matter in mainstream songs, as long as it sounds good it's fine. She's drinking too much blah blah blah, she wants to blah blah blah.
