The New U.S. Penny design is a terrible idea.

I was being sarcastic about that part, but yes I do come from the 1800's. I was on a time mission, thanks for blowing my cover :(
Oh. Sorry bro. Look at the bright side, since you're from the past, only crazy people like me will believe you.
They'll all believe me I tells ya! ALL OF THEM! AHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!

... no. That's not okay. It's just not. Shouldn't this be something we vote on or something? I know it's not a huge deal, but there are a heck of a lot more citizens that will be affected by this than whatever politicians decided it. Ugh.

Pennies... why?

I thought we were looking into phasing them out entirely. They're so incredibly useless.

I really don't care what logo or design we go with, really the only thing that bothers me about American currency is that we refuse to get rid of dollar bills. Can we give those another go? I promise not to horde them this time.

Yeah looks awful. But if they anounce that there is to be a date when the old pennies are no longer going to be legal tender than may get all theres together and either spend them or stick them into their bank accounts, either way the economy is going to have a brief moment of rapid activity that might bum the markets up. Not by much but still, even a penny can be profit.

You still have pennys ( one cent coins )????????????

They always round down for cash sales. i.e. $5.22 cents would cost you $5.20 if you got two items for $5.22 it would cost you $10.45 cents.

Someone actually shares my irritation with the utter genericness of the penny's new reverse side? I thought I was the only one. It's just so....bland. It's a shield, one of the most common symbolic images ever. And what do they put on it? Stripes. Stripes one can't even see because there's no color! And the scroll that says "One Cent"! The denomination can get pushed near the bottom rim, leave scrolls for something patriotic.

The whole thing just bugs me.

i think i read somewhere that you could save hundreds of millions in the US if you stop using 1 and 2 cent coins.

but the design really looks like some major cap fan designed this

Does it really matter? Honestly, how often do you stare longingly into the current penny design, wondering how the minters made it so perfect?

To be honest, the penny should probably be dead by now, anyway.
