The new World War Z trailer

I can already see a problem.

If the zombies are THIS easy to kill (you can see dozens being shot down in the trailer) how the @#%^ are we doing to bad against them? Zombies can't fly, they can't take on helicopters, their sole means of reproduction/food also are their greatest predators, zombies can only run to places, how are they spreading out and killing BILLIONS of people that fast?

Oh, and they're pushing for a PG-13 rating. Oh, and they want to make it a trilogy.

I'm not expecting a good film; the trailer suggests what we expected: rather a turd.

BUT I work a block away from where they were filming in Glasgow, so the sole reason I'm still interested is being able to point out George Square and its surrounds. Very weird seeing it in Hollywood..

Ahh, my bro was talking about this the other day, he got to see some of it being filmed in Glasgow. Looks like one of those big budget zombie movies that are probably terrible, irritating, cheesy, but we watch them anyway. Hell, it's better than a low budget zomb movie right?

I think we'd all rather see a gritty, well written and directed zombie movie, similar to Walking Dead, but the market is too saturated... I mean, look at what they did to 28 Days and Dawn of the Dead... completely forgot what made the original movies so good.

I think we are being too fast to complain about the movie. We knew it didn't have the same "plot" as the book, and something like it would be really hard to pull off in a 3 hours feature film. Instead, they focus on one character (a character that does appear in the books) and go through some of the most emblematic chapters.

Besides, its no wonder they are showing Yonkers in the trailer. Its the most action packed section of the book, and it probably costed as much as the rest of the movie combined. Its "helm's deep" of World War Z; of course they will focus on it during marketing...

And, for those that don't remember it, Yonkers is a great chapter because it starts as a "Fuck Yeah, America" and turns into a "You are fucked, America". Nothing in the chapter makes me think it won't happen here (the zombie "climbing" the wall being a good foreshadowing)

I only wish they could show more characters. So far, it looks like its too focus on Pitt's character and I would picture him more as a witness of the holocaust while others are more responsible of turning the tide.

Keep in mind, this is just a trailer, here's still hope for the rest of the movie, I do believe there's a lot of potential here.

This will sound like a weird question but...has there ever been a zombie movie with a good actor in it (as in, a great actor who is considered an A list celebrity)? That alone makes me excited for this movie.

The second thing that makes me excited? It looks from the trailer that they have the giant battle that I can't believe zombie movies have ever tried.

I'll forgive it for looking like a generic action movie. Frankly, I don't think World War Z (a very good book) would actually work as a movie. I don't mind them using some...creative license in their movie.

28 Days Later had Cillian Murphy, Christopher Eccleston and Brendan Gleeson. 28 Weeks Later had Robert Carlyle. So yes there have been movies with A list actors.

I'm sorry but fast zombies? The point of world war z was not the zombies themselves, but rather they acted as a backdrop to explain political and societal events.

Fast zombies are bullshit.

i dont mind fast zombies. dawn of the dead 2003 is one of my favourites. but even the original night of the living dead had some pretty fast moving zombies even if they didnt sprint.

but you hit it on the head there. zombies are best used as an environmental hazard to explore different things.. thats why night of the living dead, and the original dawn of the dead are good, also check out dead set a bbc series. it used them extremely well

Helicopter co-pilot: "OH NO! The zombies are making a human tower! What ever shall we do?"

Helicopter pilot: (Moves to the left outside of human jumping range and starts firing Hellfire missiles into the very large and easy target).

Sorry, but a human tower? That relies on the pilots working alone, and being both blind and slow to react. Still does not very well explain how zombies take on a TANK. 80 tons of armor needs a bit more than fists and teeth to dent.

Or what about fighter jets or predator drones? I am pretty sure no human tower can reach that high or catch something moving past the speed of sound.

I will probably go see World War Z, despite it looking from the trailer to be a generic "man battles against the odds to save his family" action thriller. Hopefully that is just what they want to show as a trailer to get people to go "oooo zombie movie with Brad Pitt, I'd watch that!". And really it's going to be a good movie, which follows the source material! What? One can dream.

Max Brooks was actually on my campus (University of South Carolina) on the 1st. When asked about the movie he said that he had nothing to do with it and that Brad Pitt basically took it and ran with it. At that time he said he literally knew 'nothing' other than his title was being used.

Thought I'd provide that information. I don't have citation other than that I'm a USC student who got her books signed and a picture taken P

I know you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover, but i've gotta say that this looks disappointing.

This doesn't really look anything like WWZ. The book focused on a lot of short stories, and it were very much concerned about the aftermath.

Judging by the trailer it looks like the movie is focusing on one guy, or family.

It all comes down to fuel and arms in the end.

That helicopter needs to rearm and refuel at some point, hard to do if your base is over-run.

Same principal with a tank. Sure it is effective at stopping zombies but also requires a great deal of fuel to run. Can you take out a bunch of zombie and get back to refuel before you are overwhelmed.

Zombies don't tire, they don't need food. They are just going to keep coming. Yet if just one part of the human supply chain fails, we're screwed.

As to the movie. They could have kept it closer to the book by making a movie of each story section. Make a movie about the Indian General whose name escapes me at the moment, then the sequel is the story of the Chinese subetc.

There is plenty of action movie potential in the book, they had no need to effectively create a new one.

Well I was hoping that this movie would stick to the book and be really interesting and engaging. Nice to see early on the writers didn't even look at the book other than the title.

They tossed out the original script, I'm fairly sure Brad Pitt and his production company have full control over it.

Michael Straczynski's original World War Z script draft is said to be pretty faithful to Max Brooks' source material, with an approach that includes the novel's interview-based narrative structure.

Straczynski's draft was reworked by Matthew Michael Carnahan, who was apparently tasked with turning the WWZ movie into a PG-13 global thriller/horror flick that has franchise potential.

They also had Lindelof from Promotheus and LOST work on it as well. I think he had a big part in the final act.

Those weren't zombies in the book, they were refugees who saw the luxuries stockpiled in the fortress from media coverage of the fortress and its inhabitance. Yes in the middle of a zombie apocalypse the rich stopped to gloat, and in the end only a guard and a one of those rat sized toy dogs survived.

You're correct, my mistake. I do definitely remember something about walls and zombie, but that was not it.

I don't know if it ever actually happened, but one of the definitions of a Category 4 Zombie Outbreak (or somesuch) was that zombies were so numerous that physical defenses were useless. Think it said specifically that walls or high buildings would be subsumed as zombies simply crawled on top of one another until they inadvertantly made a pile.

That being said, this trailer looks like ten pounds of suck in a nine pound bag. I'll accept fast zombies if and only if they're used to offset a small budget (in that you can work up more of a threat with a handful of sprinters without having to shell out for a shambling cast of thousands). Compounding this by abusing some computer generating umpty-thousand ragdoll physics models is just a smelly slap with a tuna.

Also, cannot think of enough unpleasant things to say about the decision to abandoning the book's novel story structure in favor of this... pap.

Nothing about this trailer seems to capture any of the dread that World War Z was supposed to have imposed upon the world in the book. I understand changing the format, but the bulk of the books message was about how nations reacted to a cataclysm that destroyed their supply chains, ways of life and undermined the very way that wars were waged and communities developed.

If it didn't have the World war Z name attached to it I probably would think it's ok. Or at least, I wouldn't facepalm as hard. I might see it anyway though just because I'm a zombie fan...

I always thought a film based off of WWZ would work better as an independent documentary style film. One guy with an old camcorder recording the stories of survivors while the action is shown to us through flashbacks. Just take a few of the more memorable stories from the book such as the blind hermit in Japan, or the woman fighting through zombie territory to make it to her airdrop rendezvous.

Brad Pitt being in the movie was the only reason I saw the trailer and thought "Well, it's not going to be like the book, nor will it be as god...and it has fuckin' running zombies. But there is no way Brad Pitt, especially these days, would be in a movie and that movie would end up being terrible." So while it will be nothing like the book (Although for the love of god I hope they still have Yonkers), it seems there is some small hope that it will be good.

I see someone mentioned 28 Days Later, but one could argue Murphy was in the film before he became world famous. In fact, I think that was the movie that did it. It also had Christopher Eccelson (SP?), the Ninth Doctor from DW.

Looks alright, will be your standard zombie apocalypse movie I think. Though I really do like the effect where they just mass over each other like a wave and crash down. It's weird, but really cool at the same time.

That was one of the best things about the trailer, I thought. Not one zombie film has ever showed a true massive horde of thousands and thousands and thousands of undead massing down a alley way. I'd almost consider that somewhat realistic. I'm also sure the concept was mentioned in WWZ and explained in detail (although less running) in the Zombie Survival Guide.
