The con is that it feels nothing like World War Z, and that's disappointing.

The upside will likely get me flamed.

The upside is that they have apparently moved away from daddy Romero's outdated and silly idea of slow and rotting zombies as the only real zombies. They made a zombie action movie that feels a little more realistic in how the zombies are fairly normal people except they are constantly trying to bite you. Like 28 Days Later, except without the grossness. That makes the zombies that much more identifiable, which is actually more terrifying. These zombies don't feel like monsters, they feel like human beings that happen to be trying to murder you in a mindless way. Theres no rotting flesh or shambling stride to separate these zombies from human beings we identify with. We can relate to these zombies, because they are like normal people who happen to be mindless killers. That's a good enough twist to make this movie worth considering, even if it is a twist that is the exact opposite of the books. Now as I say this, the movie could easilly be terrible. But if they include some hints of the brutal practicality of the books, it could easilly be a good movie. The point I want to make is that the kind of zombies they have gone with will NOT sink this movie. Its a valid kind of zombie to use.

This will sound like a weird question but...has there ever been a zombie movie with a good actor in it (as in, a great actor who is considered an A list celebrity)? That alone makes me excited for this movie.*
I figure by now this has likely been ninja'd by the oldest most decrepit ninja in the old ninjas home... But Technically, I am legend was put out right about at the height of Will Smiths acting popularity, where he was about the biggest thing going at the time. So technically, yeah, kinda, and we saw how that ended up.

Edit:OT: Well, Yeah, this does not look promising... The book really did not lend itself to a film format in any way, so you know that there is basically no way this will come out without massive deviation from the source material. Now, I am kinda fine with that. Some films have pulled that trick off, and technically it would not even be the first zombie related film to pull that trick off with moderate results (Resident Evil)

But Zombies right now are well beyond the point of mass saturation. Essentially there is nothing we can do with them at this point that hasnt already been jackhammered into the ground. I do respect Pitt as a decent actor, but you do have to remember, hes been in some pretty shit films too, so hes not always good at making decisions. Does not help that his career has been on a lull with political and indie arthouse type films. This is the kind of film that could easily tank due to lukewarm public interest and essentially kill a career.

Well this is disappointing, I was hoping for a documentary style movie following the narrator in World War Z.
Never mind, that probably wouldn't have been very good. AT least this looks fun!

If people want to make a mindless zombie-action-shooter movie, then fine. But slapping the title "World War Z" on it has now ruined the chance for one of my favourite books ever to actually get a respectable movie tie-in that remains loyal to the source.

Sorry if this is advertising, but I already commented on this in video format;

In short, the trailer showed little of the sense of a worsening crisis that the book did so well (although that could be a poor trailer rather than a poor film) the change to fast zombies is lame, and poorly CGI'd zombies even lamer. Possibly an entertaining, dumb movie, but only if you can get past how little it has in common with the book, and only if the movie makes us really care about the characters.

Oh, and the major crime in all this? If fans ever want to do their own mock interviews/full, faithful fan films again, they'll come up against a load of copyright issues that weren't really there before this movie. I mean, come on. If you ain't gonna do it loyally, don't screw the fans for doing it themselves.

Regarding A-List celebrities in zombie movies : I can't put my finger on it, but has anyone mentioned the where Johnny Depp played a zombie? Alongside Geoffrey Rush, and that Bloom kid from LotR? You know, cursed along with all the other guys in the ship to walk the earth until the end of their days unless they recovered all the cursed treasure. Because they were pirates. In the Carribbean? ( this ringing any bells with anyone? I'm pretty sure I didn't imagine it... )

Fall on your sword, man! Don't doubt your instincts like that. Certainly an excellent documentary-style movie could've been made. That style would've had nothing to do with it being fun or not. Sorry, not to attack your opinion, which you're entitled to, but for all I know you're going to be the one to write / direct / produce / act in something really cool like what you imagined. To hear you settle for this as ok because it looks like every other d*mn thing out there is, as the kiddies say, weaksauce.

You know what? You're right! Damn my complacency, and damn the guys who're making this movie! They should have some balls and give the world something new, something that could be awesome as opposed to something that's just going to be 'OK'!
