So I just saw a preview for Ricky Gervias's new movie, The Invention of Lying, and it got me thinking. What was the first lie? Who might have told the first lie?

And since our wonderful community is full of so many bright and witty minds, I thought I might pose this question to you. What do you think was the first lie?

The original lie, was made by Zarzenthax of the Elentia star galaxy, a species that gained sentience seven seconds after the universe began. It was Qym (a gender only they have) who said,"Zettle nal lent farra hentik malatan." Zarzenthx was then killed by being drawn and quartered, actually the oldest for of execution, which was also invented at that time. In case you're curious, Zarzenthax implied that Higilinguish's two mothers were fat. They were actually quite slender for their age.

Speaking from a religious stand point, it would have been a devil possesed serpent. The serpent said to Eve, regarding the Fruit of the Knowlege of Good and Evil, "Thou surely will not die (half truth). God fears that when you eat of the fruit, you will know what God knows. You will become God." Eve ate it, gave it to Adam who ate it, and from there the lying has yet to stop.
