I'm getting fairly tired of this now.
People can infer what makes my perfect game up. Here is a list for you

Good story
unique game style
Single player

There we are.

EDIT: feel free to post candidates of the perfect 10 games I think I remember you putting that in your original post and I think you will find I have done just that
I kinda did yes, but am/was trying to promote more of a discussion than people just listing their favouite games, which this thread does seem to have done to my dismay, I'm still learning how to post the original post to get the exact thread I want. Sorry for riding you.

To me a perfect ten is a game that while having some flaws it's pros outshine them .It also should be able to withstand the test of time.

A few Perfect 10's for me:

Persona 3 FES
Persona 4
Super Castlevania IV
Final Fantasy 6
Yoshi's Island
The Ace Attorney series
Any Metroidvania except Circle of the moon

The only 10/10 score in the world goes to Chess, followed closely by Starcraft.
Starcraft is deducted a point for requiring electricity.

As for my criteria, I'm fairly simple.
-Requires an interesting plot and fun gameplay.
-Almost all sequels lose my respect for simply milking its previous installment.
-Replayability is a very nice bonus.

Are these really so hard to follow, developers?

Well, I judge a game on several different things, all of which change depending on context. For instance, I judge relatively linear RPGs (mainly j-RPGs) on story and character development. Graphics normally don't bother me that much if the story is good and the characters original. My perfect 10 for this would have to be Chrono Cross, since there is such a huge array of characters to choose from and an incredibly well designed storyline as well.

However, for other games, I generally judge them on how well they play, customization (per player), how fun they are, and how intuitive the game plays. IF it is easy to learn and implement and I can make my own characters and choices, I generally deem it a good game. MY perfect 10 for this area would have to be the PC version of Oblivion, due to the shear amount of customization that can be put forth into the game. I would also have to list Fable II in here, becasue I found it profoundly amusing to play.

My last category is really simple, just your average game that says "I'm entertaining and you don't have to do much." Platform games, I think they're called, like Spyro the Dragon and Jak and Daxter. They are fun, relatively mindless, and easy to play, made purely for the entertainment factor. Incidentally, those 2 would be my perfect 10 for this category.

Sorry it got so long-winded, but there you go.

Hmm. I'm not really sure, actually. Most of my favorite games are flawed in significant ways: Planescape: Torment's combat was meh, Xenogears's disc 2 butchered freedom of movement moreso than standard for console RPGs, Arcanum's gameplay mechanics were unbalanced enough to render many character designs irrelevant, Shadow of the Colossus's bosses were fairly easy once you just figured out the trick, Final Fantasy Tactics suffered from a number of balance issues and Knights of the Old Republic 2 was half-finished. But I still really like them because their flaws don't detract from the experience.

There are a few games which have nothing bad to them except for a few specific points. Thief 1 and 2 (a few AI quibbles, though the AI is still stellar as a whole), Okami (the only original Zelda game), Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (...I really can't find any flaws with this game), Persona 4 (the dungeon crawling is lackluster and skill shuffling in fusing personas sucks.) These would be the games which are closest to 10s in my book, but I still prefer some of the games in the paragraphs above because they were more original. Though... I probably would give Paper Mario: TTYD a 10/10.

I would suppose that that's my problem with most of the perfect 10s out there (and most of the standard well-loved franchises) is that they don't do enough in originality.

The Zelda series is a prime candidate for this: they keep far too much of the previous games copy-pasted to the sequels (which is a charge I'd also throw at Halo, Grand Theft Auto, and a number of other AAA franchises.) As a example of a good one, Persona 3 to Persona 4 as close to an ideal move for a franchise as I've ever seen: the theme and the mechanics are kept mostly similar, but the storyline is redone entirely with new characters that bring their own flavor to the series and the setting is significantly different. The Zelda series isn't as bad as, say, Bomberman, sports games as a whole, Worms or Mario Party in repeating previous content and do have an idea of how to innovate, but just don't do that much. Majora's Mask was IMO the best Zelda game because it tried to push the envelope in theme while staying Zelda.

I'd talk about common perfect 10s as evaluated by The Sacred Video Game Reviewers outside of franchises, but I really can't think of any. It seems like that franchises become much better about ironing out the bugs in game design.

Games like Evil Genius

I reward points not for perfection, but for striving, originality, fun and epicness.

If we strove for perfection in games, we'd never be happy. If we look for fun, it's well worth checking out games like Evil Genius once in a while.

Gooooo Tropico 3!
