For my Philosophy class we have been given an assignment, where we have to summarise our view of the perfect world. I was wondering what the people on The Escapist view as the perfect world?

as Bleak as it sounds Brave New World was a perfect world in my opinion all people were conditioned to be happy through the birthing process so if You were an Alpha you would be as happy as a Gamma ? (been a while since i read the book i believe they are the lowest rung)

For me: A world without anyone else in it.
For everyone else: A world without suffering, pain, or (unwanted) death. Oh, and throw those things in for me too.

A world with nothing in it.
That's what a "perfect world" would be. Philosophically at least.

Personally a perfect world would be one with free internet. -cough-
Also no relationship problems, that probably causes more depression than anything else jeez.

A world with no Humans it; or evidence that humans were ever in it. Seriously, we've damaged this World so much.

a world where one could choose to experience another's every thought and experience as though they were the person in question, bringing complete understanding and honesty to the world population.

A place where everyone can picture a world of paradise but cannot ever truly achieve it.

A world where people are open and willing to accept positive change.

A world where every life form has a natural equilibrium with the environment.

A world where the benefit of humankind and what is best for the planet are placed above the acquisition of money or power.

A world where difference is tolerated and encouraged.

A world where being hateful is not accepted on any level.

A world where everyone has the same rights and privileges.

A world where the available resources are shared among us all, equally and fairly.

Pretty much ALL of those are open to perception and you can twist each and every one of them till they contradict each other :p

A Hermit's Cave
In three words as a direct response to the topic title: '... can not exist'

Necessarily, to achieve perfection, there must be imperfections against which a standard can be set. If not from one state to another then one world to another, requiring a definition of the word 'world'. Also, one man's 'perfect' is another man's 'hell'.

My ideal world has a system of government that would have people decrying me for being an elitist fascist (non-partisan authoritarian technocratic meritocracy, FYI), so you'll forgive me for not expanding.

Perhaps the perfect world is thus unachievable, as the differences in what constitutes a 'perfect world' are as unique as the person conceiving them. "One man's chains are another man's freedom, one man's dream is another man's nightmare", that sort of thing.

Everyone's dead except me and the makers of all my favorite entertainment products, my family, and a few hundred people to use the internet. I have access to all the food, entertainment, power, what-have-you that I want, and everyone leaves me alone and agrees with everything I say.

Hey, you wanted an honest opinion.

This is for a philosophy class?

Try to think of it another way or from an angle you wouldn't have thought of at the face value of the question. Like "a world without the standard of perfection".

Put some real thought into that one, you'll come up with some interesting results.

Whilst totally unfeasible, I'd love to have a society of isolated towns reaching no more than 10,000 people, with a buffer zone of around 10-20 miles between them dedicated to nature. The idea is that each town is relatively self-sufficient, but can trade with nearby towns for things they really need.

As for government, each town is ruled by a mayor of some sort, who then reports to someone in charge of the county, then the country, then the world (these are all democratically elected).

The guys at the top do the essential laws (don't kill anyone), and the guys at the bottom do the less important bylaws (don't drink alcohol outdoors after 6pm). So it'd sort of be small government but in a way I think would work well.

the perfect world, huh. well, the perfect world would serve all the needs of it's inhabitants. you could say that any world that supports life is perfect for that form of life. the earth is quite a fine specimen in this regard, supporting a many life forms with many different needs.
