I've always had at least 2 cats or more in my household all my life, and they are absolutely a joy to live with.. 98% of the time. I have 4 at the moment and they're all adorable, one of them is even turning 15 this year!

Cats don't need a lot of fuss over them. A place to eat, a place to poop and some attention and they're fine company.
Do this. Cats are low-maintenance to begin with, and if you've got two, they don't freak out when you leave the house. If you adapt from a shelter, they usually come housetrained.

Of our two, one is autistic and one seems to have OCD. The nicknames for them are Rain Man and Monk.
Seconded really. My grandma kind-off adopted a stray cat, well rather the other way around; the cat just started to trust her, she got her spayed, she puts down a bowl of food every now and then and the cat sometimes sleeps inside, sits on her lap etc. She doesn't even needs a place to poop or eat, she mostly hunts for herself (my grandma only feeds her sometimes, she usually sees the cat munching on a bird or mouse) and craps outside as well, heck it even sleeps outside most of the time.

Anyway, got 2 cats myself, a fat lazy red-ish (who recently did catch a bird, but the bird was pretty damned retarted) and a small, slim black one.
This is the little fatty:

I adore them.
We don't have a litterbox for ourselfs as well. Hence why cats rule, they're so independant. We only have to take them to the vet every now and then, we feed them (ours aren't so wild as my grandma's cat, but at least 1 of them still hunts regularly), they go on the prowl at night and take over our beds, couch or chairs during the day time.

PS: I adore dogs as well, my other grandma has an amazing flatcoat retriever. He's a bit of a retard, and crazy as hell, but an awesome dog. Or...well, I adore most pets who can show affection, rats, hamsters, I guess some lizards like company, meeh I don't care what species they are, as long as they show love.

Pet rock is the best.

Otherwise, if you want a real animal, a cat is probably the lazy man's choice.
No freakin' way, cats can be horrible pets. My boyfriend has two and they're just smelly. My friend has one as well and about half the time he misses the litter tray. You have to do a lot of cleaning up after cats. They also like to claw the furniture.

I personally like rats, they make lovely pets. They very rarely bite, you only have to clean them out fully once a week and you can leave them alone all day cos they're mainly nocturnal, which is good if you've got a job or college or something like that. Very easy to look after and they have the independence of cats and the friendliness of dogs but a whole lot smaller and cheaper!

I have a feisty, talkative cat named Gabbie and the cutest, most lovable, most cuddly ball python in the world. He's so sweet, he has heart shaped markings. Plus, if your neck is stiff or sore he gives neck massages.

Ive been living in my apartment for a year now and Im considering getting a cat. Maybe even 2. But if I get 2 I want them to be kittens from one nest. I figure if their with 2 theyll have company with each other when im not around. And my furniture is more likely to survive.

Their names? Mo(hammed) and Karim. Its partially from a political standpoint. And also because Mo and karim are 2 character of a show from a certain comedian I like.
