That was pretty interesting...
I'm not too surprised by the results as I knew I was pretty liberal in the first place.

I'm a little below Thatcher in terms of Authoritarianism.DVS BSTrD said:http://www.politicalcompass.org/images/axeswithnames.gif
I think the problem here is that you're seeing half of the political spectrum "the left" as a homogeneous mass rather than individuals. Sure, lots of the left do whine about compassion but you know who else was on the left? Stalin. I don't think you could find anyone less pro death penalty than him, except possibly Hitler and the Taliban. Everyone's got their own views, you can be stereotypically on the left for most views but happen to support the death penalty, just as you can be stereotypically on the right for most views but happen to support gay marriage.Johnny Impact said:Mine seems to look like everybody else's, about 35% down and 35% left.
I like this sort of test as I don't really know how to classify myself. I can be far to the left and far to the right at the same time. Examples:
I am hugely in favor of homosexuals having the same rights as other humans. This means equal rights, NOT special rights, with no language of any kind in the laws specifically denoting rights of one group without specifically denoting that all other groups have the same right. Usually the sticking point is marriage. The religious right's argument that "marriage should not be redefined" is total, 100% crap. Marriage has been redefined many times in the centuries the Bible has been around. When it was no longer acceptable for conquering soldiers to gain wives by raping the women of the land they invaded, proto-Christians at the time probably objected to the redefinition. Do not use your quaint, antiquated mythology textbook to tell me what consenting adults can or cannot do. The right is wrong, end of discussion.
On the other hand, I am hugely in favor of the death penalty for serious crimes. Some folks just aren't going to rehabilitate, no matter how much time, counseling, incarceration, etc is spent on them. When you get weeds in your garden, you don't carefully move them to their own little plot, where they receive more time and resources than the plants you ostensibly want to keep. You pull the weeds, throw them over your shoulder, and don't spare them another thought. The left likes to whine about compassion. I have loads of compassion. I just have it for the victims.
Seems like I'm following the trend. Not surprised by this outcome at all though.
