"The Post Count causes ELITISM and should be done away with! " Do you agree?

You think removing the post count will prevent elitism? As an elitist I gotta tell you, we're more adaptable than that you weak "less than 500" guttersnipe.
Pretty much this, snark included.

I like looking at post counts, mine and others'. I know it doesn't mean anything, really, but it entertains me. I anticipate the day when my own count finally clears 1000 and I can wear the Morpheus badge.

.....God, I am *such* a nerd.

I think this is something similar to MMO's:

All we care is about the numbers!

I don't share that sentiment, I honestly try to remember people's names and avatars rather than their post number/join date

...

Ok, one more joke:

"THE NUMBERS MASON, WHAT DO THEY MEAN!?"

Live and Let Post!

Can we not have this discussion again, the last thread about it was locked for a reason.

I don't really care about post count, except when someone has only been around for a year or so and has over 10k posts. That tells me that they are the type of people who will post on anything and everything, even if they have nothing to bring to the discussion. I don't get why people like the users who do that sort of shit, because you guys seem to love them like gods. At least the old forum celebrities like Furburt and Hubilub were funny unlike the annoying shitposters and over cheerful bootlickers we have these days.

I'm living proof that post count does not matter. I've been here two years, and just broke 500. I do, however, NOTICE posts by people like Fappy (whose name makes me smile) more. I do not know why though. Maybe they just post more?
Right.

Everybody catch that? newfoundsky's living proof that size doesn't matter.

doesn't really matter to me since i usually have my browser window scaled in size so that i only see what people write, not who they are.
i really don't care about post counters in general, my giant penis gives me all the confidence i need

It's a sort of reward/recognition for those of us who've decided to spend a lot of time on here. Doesn't really change all that much in practice.

The Join Date causes ELITISM and should be done away with!

Some people will use anything to lord over other people. Superiority complex, in other words. It's painfully common online where there's anonymity. Hell, even if there isn't some kind of e-peen meter to lord over other people, they'll just assume a position of superiority without anything to back it up anyway. Just browse YouTube for a few minutes for countless examples.

How exactly does elitism with post count work?

"Oh yea! I have a higher post count than you! I waste more time posting about rape threads, sexism threads, mass effect 3, and bacon more than you do! Heehee n00b!"
Well yes, actually. That's exactly it.

Cliques will form anyway. Post count or not, when a newcomer sees Daystar and Fappy discussing their divorce in several threads and other forum members being in on the joke, they're going to feel that they're missing something. We'll always talk and joke more freely with the people we interact with every day. Post counts have nothing to do with it. Registration dates have nothing to do with it. It's a matter of socialising with people frequently. Hiding these things won't make anyone more included, because the regulars are known by name and avatar, not post count.
The obvious solution is to get rid of ALL identifying markers. No avatars, no user names, nothing. You can be a new person in every thread!

Edit: Except Tyra. Tyra is here to stay.
But then your name wouldmight offend me. So we would have to all have the same name, something anonymous.

Meh, the only thing that really bothers me about post count is that user group posts go towards that. I remember way back when it was just forum posts and it was interesting to see people in the 10k posts because that actually took some effort.
I honestly don't care about anyone's post count number anymore, and anyone who thinks they're elite because they have a huge post count is honestly a moron. Just look around at various user groups, most are just used as glorified chat messengers that pad out the post count.

So turn the place into 4chan?
Essentially yes, and we all know how tolerant, accepting, mature, and non-cliquish they, right? XÞ
/sarcasm

Seriously, cliques and elitism will happen regardless. If you try and clamp down on everything that you "think" causes such things people will just find something else to be elitish and cliquey about. And if we keep clamping down before long we'll be living in 1984, and even then cliques'll probably form over who Big Brother watches more.

Only nerds can get so excited over numbers. Honestly, I just glance at it whenever it gives me the chance to do a silly thread or something when I hit the next ten thousand. I'm considering dropping that after I hit 50K.

I post a lot. Does that mean my friendships are henceforth 'cliques' and not just bonds with other, like minded people on a website? Does that mean I'm trying to change this place into my personal playground?

Some people like to think so. It makes me laugh seeing how little impact anything I say or do has on the way this site moves on from day to day. If I'm part of a social elite, it sure feels no different than when I had 3000 posts.

Take it easy people.

If you did, they would just use join date as a means of elitism. If they did away with that, they'd find something else. This may be one of the few times that the moral of a cartoon is directly applicable, but, 'The Same Game' from Fairly Oddparents. Some people are jsut jerks whoa re going to find something to be jerks about. Don't waste your time trying to alter your world to take away their fire, it doesn't work.

As Oprah was quoting, they have over 9,000 penises, and they are all raping children.

Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong threads, but I never really noticed post count being used like that. Mind you, a decent part of my lurking does include R&P.

Anyone with a lower post-count than me is just a newbie. Nobody should listen to them, freakin' new guys.

Also, anyone with a higher post-count than me is a no-life snob. Nobody should listen to them, freakin' know-it-alls. That includes all the forum mods, and Daystar Clarion. ESPECIALLY Daystar Clarion.

End of line.

OT: Meh, I don't really see much elitism around here, but that might be because I mostly hang out with a great group of people.
