Ok, I just watched the below video. And I was wondering if anyone else though: "WTF! They NAMED the Prince of Persia?!"

Does anyone else think it's weird that, after almost 20 years, they took it upon themselves to choose his name? Does anyone think it should be canon?

BTW: The name is Dastan
According to wikipedia:
The Dastan is an ornate form of oral history present in Central Asia, which is a Persian word, meaning "story".[1][2] It conveys values and traditions of generations of peoples. A Dastan is centered on one individual who protects his tribe or his people from an outside invader/enemy. This main character sets an example of how one should act

I don't care, anything can be better than the latest Prince of Persia game.

Although I've always thought the movie would suck. And if it indeed will then I want all of you to know that I called it!

canon?

no i prefer Dastan it fits him.
still i'd rather have the Prince himself say it.(the game Prince)

therefore i shall still be referring to him as kakulukia.

Well, would you have rather they ran around the movie calling him "unnamed Prince"?

they had to do something. I don't like the name though. It doesn't sound Princey enough. or even Persian enough for that matter...

I think their accents butchered the name...

dastin? I always thought it was supposed to be pronounced dahs-tahn

Canon is the body of rules, principles, or standards accepted as axiomatic and universally binding in a field of study or art.

Star Wars fiction for example is either described as canon (offically accepted as being part of the world) or non-canon. Star Wars video games are generally canon so long as you follow the light side path, and the bulk of the books published on the subject are included as well. Fan-fiction and the like is generally considered non-canon.

Jake Glyllenhal (butchered spelling probably), looks so goofy in this role.
I think he is, for lack of a better term, too "yokel". Every scene except one in that preview, his mouth is open, like some southern redneck with an overbite. Not very fitting for a prince.

I'll have to agree with this.

Technically you could infer the Princes name from the Sands of Time trilogy because his father's name was given. Granted is was only said once in the original and in a very offhand, casual sort of way like they didn't want you to know it unless you were really paying attention.

Anyway, I've since forgotten what that name is but I remember looking him up in a list of Achamenid royals and he only had one son.

Also, the Prince kind of needs a name for a movie. The anonymous protagonist works well in video games but it's hard to pull off in a movie.

I've always called him flippywipe-bjork bojangles....I was a bit off...

Seriously thoguh, it seems they got the action right, the story, not so much so far, and yeah jake g doesn't seem right for the roll....brad pitt!! ok not really but still that woulda been funny.

Honestly I don't think it will be the worse video game movie ever, but it won't be the best...at least uwe boll isn't making it...

It could be odne really well, but it's not going to be, but at least the original game is still freakin amazing.

Is this a joke, the film seems very fake or is it just because its a Disney film?
It's just a Disney film.

I don't really mind the name, what I mind is Jake Gyllenhall :(

Seriously, was generic Arab actor number 204 not available?

Meh - not too bothered.

'The Prince' as both his name and title in the games added to the whole mythology of him being one of many, but I don't think it's really a biggy that he has a name.

But no, it shouldn't be canon.
