2020 has been a shitty year for everyone, but for the fans of Senran Kagura, it has been a rough two years for them. Sony first demanding they clean up their act by removing key sexual content for their games while allowing explicit sexual content for serious games like Life is Strange and TLOU2.

And now it seems like the death knell of fanservice heavy games is at hand for Marvelous as the discord, once home to countless amounts of NSFW art

Combined with Senran Kagura New Wave shutting down after 8 years and with only New Link left, the future of Senran Kagura is bleaker than ever. Finally one of the posters of sex appeal is going to die and I say good riddance to a rallying point of crass fanservice.

Self-righteous, insecure, and smug as always. The discord is gone, so what? The franchise still makes a ton of money, so no big deal. I played some of the games and they are decent brawlers, but not much to write home about. Onechanbarz Z2 & the Origins remake are better gameplay wise. Even if Senra Kagura "died", there are about a billion other fan-service games that can take it's place. Changing absolutely nothing. It's mainly pathetic wishful thinking on your part. How pathetic you have to be to wish misery on people for liking a game you do not. That makes you no different from those who hated on others for liking or disliking the TLOU II. Once again, you're overcompensating.

By the way, the series has 30%-40% female fan base. So clearly, not everyone is an alt right chud. Seriously, I find the term insulting to the actual CHUDS from the movies. They never discriminated and would eat anyone and anything.

From what I understand, this happened because Tencent bought majority stock of Marvelous recently. So yeah, go on celebrating China taking over the game industry and making everything conform to their standards because for now they happen to be moving in a direction you agree with, that surely won't turn out bad XD.


And Senran Kagura was already dead ever since the developer left the company a year or so ago due to Sony's new restrictive guidelines, he's now working with the folks making the amazing granblue fantasy series, of which the recent fighting game is incredible. So yeah, this doesn't do anything. Anyone who was still hoping for more SK stuff of any note from Marvelous was delusional.


Now, what you CAN enjoy, if you are into the SK art style, is the Evenicle series on steam. It has fully uncensored art by the SK artist. Here's examples:

Evenicle is about the holy quest of a guy who wants to have sex with his older twin sisters in a world where you can only have sex in marriage and if you do it outside of marriage you get cursed and lose your human rights (which have a physical manifestation in this world), so he embarks on a quest to be a hero so that he will earn the recognition required for him to be allowed have multiple wives, because just marrying one of his sisters would make the other one feel bad.

If anything it's a quest explicitly about helping people who are suffering and saving them, since that's the only way for you to be recognized as a hero.

I read that description and suddenly I feel that there's some legitimacy to the claim that Gamers are creepy perverts. I mean, that has to be satire. No one would actually make a game with a plot like that and be earnest, right?

No they're playing it straight which is why it's great. It's literally a quest to be a hero so you can marry a bunch of hot chicks and the more heroic you become the more hot chicks you get to marry.

I mean it is an 18+ eroge so it is definitely self-aware and doesn't try to take itself seriously at any point (as you can see by the cacti playing yugioh in the image above) but the in-world lore is not satirical at all.


And as for Tencent, I read 25% but either way, they are the single group with the most stocks so they have the loudest voice in Marvelous atm.


Honestly, I don't even care about SK or Kandagawa Jet Girls, I'm way more worried about the effects they'll have on Xseed who was bought by Marvelous a while back, who has brought over some of my legit fav stuff ever, not just fun trashy stuff like SK or evenicle.

Quick googling revealed they bought 20% back in May. 20% is not majority and not enough for Tencent to have a say in managerial decisions. It gets them a few board seats, but unless they've got another 31% of investor to back them up, they have no input. Seriously, people need to learn to understand how stocks, company boards and controlling share works. This is like the 20th time someone claims that Tencent is making decisions because they bought stocks in a company, only for it to turn out that Tencent is a minority shareholder.

Japan has always found some way to make a mint off a fanbase of B Movie conoisseur who dont give two concern on quality so long as their id is satisfied. With fewer and fewer games and media pandering to them, what you see is a junkie with withdrawal episodes and lower quality drugs in their system

This is why you kick your habit with games with thought provoking and insight like Disco Elysium, because when the withdrawal kicks in and you can't get your fix, you start blaming the left and China for lack of supply instead of accepting the Wasteland of Reality.

Stay away from it, you are paying 60 bucks for a low budget racing game that could have had a wet t-shirt feature, a shoot their bikini off feature and outfits that aren't meant to be swimsuits but was removed because of more sensible minds running Sony now.

I've got a friend who loves the series, to the point where she has collectors editions for most of the games. I'm not sure if she gives a damn about the sexual nature of the games, but its not something that bothers her much.
