Dean Brody - "Brothers"
Look up the lyrics. I get choked up every time I hear the song.

Tim McGraw - "If you're reading this"

Collin Raye - "If you get there before I do"

Lonestar - "I'm already there"

Dusty Drake - "One Last time"

Blake Shelton - "Baby"

Black Label Society - "In This River"

Akikaze no Uta by Akeboshi

I love Akeboshi. Akikaze no Uta is one of the first songs I ever put on my iPod.
My favorite song by him is Haikyo no Sofa, but I digress...

(One of) The saddest songs I've ever heard has got to be "Last This Day" by Faithless Feat Dido.

The Highwayman [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S2CFM4ev-g8] by Loreena McKennitt

Back in Revolutionary times, a highwayman falls in love with an innkeeper's daughter. While he's away fighting, redcoats capture the inn, and tie her up with a musket against her stomach. She struggles against the ropes, and is barely able to wrap a finger around the trigger. When she sees the highwayman riding back, she shoots herself to warn him with the sound of the gunshot. But instead fleeing, he goes crazy and attacks the redcoats, just to be brutally gunned down.

"Blackbird"
Written by the Beatles, however, they do not do this incredible song justice. They sing it way too fast.

"No Rain" By Blind Mellon
There was a time in my life when that song fit my life like a glove and how depressed I was. Granted It never moved me to tears, but it made me feel sad. It really doesn't anymore, but still.

On the other hand, "I can Only Imagine", it's a cookie cutter pop-Christian song, does move me to tears, not because I'm Fundamentalist or anything, but they played it at my grandfather's funeral, and it just makes me sad.

Mar World- Gary Jules. Depressing, yet hauntingly beautiful.

Gotta Be Somebody- Nickleback. This one hits really close to home with me, as I was a very lonely person before finding my current love.

River Flows in You- Yiruma. Better known as "Bella's Lullaby", this song is both haunting and tearjerking.

Out of Darkness- DMC 4. Come on, do I even need to say it?

The Other Promise- Yoko Shimomura. The fact this beautiful, yet very depressing song, plays during a boss battle is amazing in my opinion.

You do know there's an 'Edit' button, right?
Mm. I should probably start using it, too. Bad forum etiquette.

Most of these 'sad' songs don't really do anything for me. For sheer despair, tragedy and pain, you can't beat Xasthur

Xasthur - Doomed by Howling Winds
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6zqK_UbD1zU&feature=related

Lyrics:
The wind cast a ruin upon my soul.
The night is dying, yet we cursed the dawn,
each mourning, upon a festering grave.
The moonlight has no shine through the doom.
The burning corpse of god shall keep us warm in the doom of howling winds
For we are a race from beyond the wanderers of night.

Clicked the link. Thanks for the chuckles. I love the childish fantasy world of deathscreamcoremetal.
That's OK, I didn't expect many to be able to appreciate it. Loved your indie pop/rock though. I think I almost cried.
