Holy mother of kinky Jesus, is this thread still running?!
It's like a challenge that I can't refuse even though I now I will never get anything positive from it or even come close to a state that could be called 'Victory' within it... which in itself is a good basis for a horror story, really.

This is actually shockingly scary for just a pixelated game. I actually caught myself whimpering a few times.

There are monsters, this I know;
The way they smile tells me so....

Edit: How do I go about embedding videos here?
Like this (but without the dot):

That's one of the scariest games ever made, seriously. It's right up there with Silent Hill 2 and Amnesia. Download it, play it, it's like 50MB.

So on the subject of scariness, can anyone recommend any movies in a similar vein to Paranormal Activity, Blair Witch, Insidious, and all them?

You ever heard of the movie REC?
Its the original version of that movie Quarantine. I think it would suit your needs nicely

Oh, well REC does have two sequels. Diary of the Dead is also in that format
Here look at this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Found_footage_(genre)

Have you seen The Tunnel? It's an Australian 'found footage' film about some journalists who decide to investigate some abandoned subway tunnels. I thought it was pretty awesome.

Well.. you've probably heard of it, but Marble Hornets? It's a mockumentary on youtube based on the Slender Man Mythos.

I haven't, though I was looking into it last night. Might give it a go.

That, EverymanHYBRID and TwibeTwelve; I've seen them all.
if there's another good one, I'd be all for it though.

[sub]Also minor point but I wouldn't describe it as a mockumentary as that's a term generally bandied around for comedies and satires[/sub]

Yeah, I'd realized I made a mistake in the use of the word but laziness stopped me from correcting myself.. :( Anyway are the other two any good compared to Marble Hornets?

Well, they're watchable, though I think the storylines themselves are far more driven by social media, so I don't keep on top of every little thing.

TribeTwelve has a few moments of very good special effects though.

A baby girl is mysteriously dropped off at an orphanage in Cleveland in 1945. "Jane" grows up
lonely and dejected, not knowing who her parents are, until one day in 1963 she is strangely
attracted to a drifter. She falls in love with him, but just when things are looking up for
Jane a series of disasters strikes: First, she becomes pregnant by the drifter, who then
disappears. Second, during the complicated delivery doctors discover that Jane has both sets
of sex organs, and to save her life, they most surgically convert "her" to a "him." Finally,
a mysterious stranger kidnaps her baby from the delivery room.

Reeling from these disasters, rejected from society, scorned by fate, "he" becomes a drunkard
and a drifter. Not only has Jane lost her parents and her lover, but he has lost his only
child as well. Years later, in 1970, he stumbles into a lonely bar, called Pop's Place, and
spills out his pathetic story to an elderly bartender. The sympathetic bartender offers the
drifter the chance to avenge the stranger who left her pregnant and abandoned, on the
condition that he join the "time traveller corps." Both of them enter a time machine and the
bartender drops the drifter off in 1963. The drifter is strangely attracted to a young orphan
girl, who subsequently becomes pregnant.

The bartender then goes forward 9 months, kidnaps the baby girl from the hospital, and drops
the baby off in an orphanage back in 1945. Then the bartender drops off the thoroughly
confused drifter in 1985, to enlist in the time traveller corps. The drifter eventually gets
his life together and becomes respected and elderly member of the time traveller corps, and
then disguises himself as a bartender and has his most difficult mission: a date with
destiny, meeting a certain drifter at Pop's Place in 1970.
I know it has been almost two years since this post, but my friend actually sent me the link to the original story. Here it is, if you're interested:

Also, I am so sorry for the super-necro.

This is a long read, but it's really worth it. Very well written, intense and downright scary.
