Skeptics think clearer. What a big surprise.

Nice act of misdirection, by the way.

Being cheerful promotes creativity? But aren't many brilliant artists and writers depressed, or at least somewhat messed up?

I would say that it's more than happy people are unfocused and unhappy people are focused. I think it's easier to be creative when you don't have a clear focus (I don't promote drugs in any way, shape, or form, but this is a big part of why certain drugs "inspire" artists).

Being focused doesn't mean you can't be creative, it just means you have to draw from within, rather than without. I think drawing from within is something a lot of people can't do easily.

That's an interesting little article... [sub]not that it made me happy or anything[/sub]...
The title of the thread was somewhat misleading. I wonder if it was intentional?

And my parents told me I to cheer up.

sweet. That means I'll think clearly for a long time.

EDIT: dammit this post made me happy. I think it shaved about 2 years off my lifespan.

Professor Forgas said: "Whereas positive mood seems to promote creativity, flexibility, co-operation and reliance on mental shortcuts, negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world."
Ever stop to think that grumpy people are grumpy because they pay attention to the external world? This is the basis for "ignorance is bliss". The happy people are the ones who don't pause to consider or care, and simply get on with their lives inside their little bubbles.

Bah humbug, being bright and optimistic is the way to go.

Now excuse me while I drive my car to the shops at twice the speed limit then park without paying. While at the shops I will buy whatever looks new and shiny on credit. What could possibly go wrong, after all bad things only happen to pessimists!

There certainly is a lot of truth in that. I've noticed it happen to myself.

Great, now there's more chance Yahtzee will murder everyone with "Press x to not die"

By rights, Yahtzee shouldn't miss those moments as ... what was it?
negative moods trigger more attentive, careful thinking, paying greater attention to the external world.
He now has no excuse to die during a QTE ever again.
