Wish You Were Here by Pink Floyd

The whole song is amazing but since you asked for a lyric I would have to say it is
And did you exchange
A walk on part in the war
For a lead role in a cage?

Talvasota by Sabaton

"A Slice of the knife to a throat, and their blood turns to ice TALVISOTA!". Also "With molotov coctail in hand No fear of their tanks Death or glory!"

The entire song is pretty fucking epic
Man, I love that song. Best line from it there, too. I might've gone with either Union (Slopes of St. Benedict) or White Death (You're in the sniper's sight, the first kill tonight! Time to die! You're in the bullet's way, the White Death's prey! Say goodbye!)

I think my favourite's the third verse of Never Be Moved by Clutch.

"Woe be the architect of our city, cruel leveler, the hillock strangler.
Bold pusher of the cold bone index
Through the knotted bowels of the old alleyways.
Read the future a false haruspex.
Recall how he coaxed us out of the green plains.
All of us, dumb eyed at the sheer number. So long ago it does not matter.
Woe be architect in his slumber, for the Watcher never sleeps.
And on that day there will be rejoicing and dancing streets."

What does it mean? Bugger if I know. But it sounds awesome. Starts around 1:20.

For me one of the biggest things about a song is the lyrics, they have to strike me in some way. this is why pop songs an artists like Kesha will never be worth a damn for me, the lyrics need to be GOOD, and well vocalized, the lyrics on paper could be amazing, but of they're screamed and unintelligible then that's also a turn off.

my best lone song would be Regulator By clutch. chorus is amazing,
"Dream with the feathers of angels stuffed beneath your head,
the regulator's swinging pendulum" X2

now i also love the band Seether for this, and they are my favorite band becuse of this, so my best song from the would be Here and Now, and the part that always gets me is right after the first chorus

"I'm wilted and faded after all,
to strung out and burnt out to be half the man that I could be,
I'll never belong on side your world,
so black out the sun and leave me to play out this same old tragedy"

"They can take our fists
and
chop them off at the wrists
and we will shake our arms
with bloody stumps
and we will not be defeated"

Life for you's been less than kind,
So take a number, stand in line,
We've all been sorry, we've all been hurt
But how we survive is that makes us who we are

Truer words have never been spoken.

"all you touch and all you see/ is all your life will ever be"

From Breathe by Pink Floyd. Some see the line as depressing- I see it as pragmatic and so simple it's brilliant.

I've always been fond of the irony in the lyric "God knows I've never been a spiritual man" from Billy Joel's 'River of Dreams'.

I always liked 2Pac's lyrics. Not the gangsta stuff, the reflective songs he did so very, very well:

These two sum it up pretty well.

Well, I'm not the world's most masculine man
But I know what I am and I'm glad I'm a man
And so is Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola
Lola, L-L-Lola, L-L-Lola

I love these lyrics so much.

Poets Of The Fall did some songs for Alan Wake under the name Old Gods Of Asgard. All three of the songs are unbelieveably epic, but the latest one, Balance Slays The Demon, takes it up to 11.

"Deep in the ocean of darkness
In the mirror of light
Balance becomes a stranger
And in your fantasies
He writes a storm
On your peace

(cue epic guitar riff)

Can't believe no-one has mentioned the Boss himself:

Some of the best lyrics ever written can be found on that album including:

There were ghosts in the eyes
Of all the boys you sent away
They haunt this dusty beach road
In the skeleton frames of burned out chevrolets
They scream your name at night in the street
Your graduation gown lies in rags at their feet
And in the lonely cool before dawn
You hear their engines roaring on
But when you get to the porch they're gone
On the wind, so mary climb in
Its a town full of losers
And Im pulling out of here to win.

System of a Down - 'Vicinity of Obscenity'
Do we all
Learn defeat
From the whores
With bad feet?

Beat the meat
Treat the feet
To the sweet
Milky seat.

Actually, there is a part in Linkin Park's 'Blackout' where, after a verse full of metaphors for something, the singer just screams "FUCK IT ARE YOU LISTENING?" at the top of his voice.

"I will switch off the world when the time is right, put the pieces in place and destroy this f*cking waste"
Favourite lyric I'd written for my music project. Love it after all these years.

I see them days are coming
We hear them roar
Theyll bring the end upon us
And we will have no mercy no more
Then youll search for your soul salvation
Our hands are bound
We cry out for direction
But only those truly lost can be found

Why wont you
Save them, oh let me save you
Heal them, I can heal you
Make them closer to your heart,
We cant just watch these walls come tumbling down
Why wont you save them, oh let me save you
Heal them, I can heal you
Make them closer to your heart
We cant just watch these walls come tumbling down

In the final hour, you can cleanse your souls
By whispering Hallelujah
Now raise your hands, give praise to him
By singing Hallelujah

Saved from the cold, 'cause I can do without you getting praise where I go
Theres a truth to be told, and I dont want them to go

Why wont you
Save them, oh I want to save you
Heal them, let me release you
Make them closer to your heart,
We cant just watch these walls come tumbling down
Why wont you save them, I will redeem you
Heal them, if you hear my praise
Make them closer to your heart
We cant just watch these walls come tumbling down

Saved from the cold, 'cause I can do without you getting praise where I go
Theres a truth to be told
But I dont want you to go
Pale from the fall, if thats your excuse then youll never be called
Theres a truth to be told
I just dont want it to show

Why wont you
Save them, I want to save you
Heal them, I can heal you
Make them closer to your heart,
We cant just watch these walls come tumbling down
Why wont you save them, mark my words
Heal them, Ill bless your souls
Make them closer to your heart
We cant just watch these walls come tumbling down

In a place where long lost souls are led astray
a penny is cheap price to pay
we play those poke'em in the nostril games all day
oh the fun! oh the joy! they all would say
ode to tranquils meant to soothe
head riots, all them bells in my mind in high pursuit
in love with a spine, I tryto stroke it most of the time
I wish they could, wish they would leave us alone, leave us alone

Carnivore, we never could tell, no one seems to feed you
carnivore, tell me what is that smell, no one wants to greet you
life on clouds and walls in bloom, bring the cookie, kill the cookie
who's the cookie, I'm the cookie

The warden plays such a pretty little tune
we call it the toenail dance and we're in love with the fumes
a sweet and innocent after tear romance
painting blisters on our feet, more sugar by any chance?
we sway in time to the rhythm we left behind
are we entertained by the lunacy at hand?
whatwe see is man's cruelity
we're down on our knees begging you please

Just ask yourself:
Do you want my Styrofoam peanuts?
You can have my Styrofoam peanuts.
Do you want my Styrofoam peanuts?
You can have them all.

1 cookie to whoever gets it.
