I don't really understand why a majority of people on the internet thought that the intro sucked. I thought it was awesome, the intro, the atmosphere you dived in to. Oh and a dragon attack. it was a pretty memorable experience. so why does everyone else hate it?

I really liked it the first time. However I make a lot of characters so when I am starting a new game I want to be able to skip through most of it and get to playing since I have already done it so many times.

I would imagine it has something to do with the fact that it forces itself upon you for repeat playthroughs.
It's a fantastic introduction to the world and situation of Skyrim, and a great tutorial to a vast and complex RPG... the first time. On subsequent plays it's a half an hour starting area that you drag yourself through to get into the game world proper.

It was better then The Imperial Prison in Oblivion but also kinda annoying because of the long bit at the very beginning in a cart with the Nord guy who never shut up.

I thought it was awesome too. I think that perhaps it was a lot more enjoyable for people who were already Elder Scrolls fans opposed to those who aren't. They talk a lot about lore which isn't really explained. To someone who already understands it it can help to draw you in, but it can totally alienate those who are new to the series.

But like all Bethesda games, the intro is incredibly long and can be irritating having to go through it over and over.

Did you also wonder if she still made that mead with juniper berries mixed in?

Because I heard that line so many fucking times I almost wanted to go on a quest simply to find this woman's corpse.

Replayability was horrible.

I made probably 15 characters, and making new characters in Skyrim basically meant going afk for 15 minutes and coming back to play the easy intro.

In Oblivion you had an auto save after the intro so you never had to redo it. Plus it didn't start with 15 minutes of talking.

It was fine to watch once. But I like multiple playthroughs.

Plus its uncannily like MW1's intro, to a rather scary degree (as was pointed out by Extra Credits)

Extra Credits is stupid. I actually watched that episode because it had Skyrim in it and they couldn`t be more wrong. But then again Extra Credits really annoy me no matter what they say.

The intro was great, and I don`t think you can judge it because of replayability, anything is bad if you have to do it 20 times and just want to get it over with.

It would have been nice though to give us something like fallout or oblivion where you could change your character just after Helgen or something.

You guys really want to complain about this intro? RPG intros used to be far more monotonous and boring. Skyrim's is a breath of fresh air compared to say, Kotor II... oh god the horror.

It seems designed to showcase the worst parts of the game. Bad dialogue and 2002-era animation.

Even the environments were boring. You'd think that given the nature of the game Skyrim could have at least provided some interesting scenery for our Black Mesa cart ride. But nope, grey snowy rocks and nothing else.

Let's put it this way - people who replay the game clearly like some part of the game content enough to want to experience it again. The intro is not that part of the game content.

In general, I don't get the whole thing Bethesda does with annoying linear sections at the beginning of their games.

: Okay, so our game has minimal story content, but does one thing very well - the ability to explore an open world with very few limitations.
: SOUNDS GOOD LETS START THE GAME WITH A LINEAR UNSKIPPABLE STORY-FOCUSED SCRIPTED SECTION

While they go too far in some cases I think they do this to establish the setting. It would be kind of odd to just plop you in the middle of the game world and tell you to have at it... oh wait... that's pretty much what Morrowind did. Never mind.

The intro was weak aesthetically, but it was a lot more fun to replay than that bloody rat filled sewer.

It's ok to watch a few times but after my third character I'm going to keep that save that happens when you get off the cart.

I like the intro for the most part. It's good for two playthroughs. The first because it's still new and it introduces you to the world and the empire/stormcloak conflict. The second because you'll know a lot more about the situation and exactly who all these people around you are.

The only thing I didn't like about the intro was looking at the blocky, wedge like horse's ass while riding in the cart. Stupid low rez textures.

Other than that I enjoyed it though, thankfully the gap between playthroughs is long enough that it doesn't get too repetitive.

There was so much hype around Skyrim. So I go to the midnight launch and get home and pop the game into my PS3 and there is a large update. So after that is done, I am really itching to play this game, after all I did go to the midnight launch. Then this intro kicks in and it drags on and on and on...it was boring the first time. It was boring every time after that too.

In game cinematics don't have much going for them, they aren't Final Fantasy CGI awesome and most of the time you just wish you could skip through it all.

Well, the sewer can be skipped.
