After this game release, I REALLY want to see this and other Forums filled with OC all over the place.
I shall take my pop-corns.

But seriously now, it was about time to do something like that. After so many years of fans creating their own characters to a criminal degree, the developers should had get the memo long ago.

What do you think about that?

Well, I think it's rediculous that both Sonics in the trailer take down the Death Egg Sentinels so easily. I...oh, you meant the OC. Right...

Well, on that note, I'm uneasy about this. On the one hand, it is a nice idea, how choosing your species gives you different perks, even if all those species are mammals bar the bird, with not one reptile or amphibian (yes, I care about animal representation ;p). I think the perks look nice gameplay-wise, but...okay, there's no avoiding this. The Sonic fanbase has an obsession with OC's. I should know, back in my snot-nosed years, I imagined my own OC's. As someone who writes fanfiction for various medias, there's nothing wrong with OC's, but Sonic OC's are often OC's for the sake of self-insertion, not for the sake of improving the story. I can't help but wonder if Sega knows this, and wants to appeal to everyone who thinks that John Doe the Hedgehog is the deepest bestest character EVAR. Because we see our character running as fast as Sonic, so we're already in the 'as good as Sonic, but better' territory that so many OC's fall into.

But I've already drabbled up a oneshot sattarizing the mook that I intend to post on ff.net this weekend, so I'm not exactly lacking in culpability for this.

Well, actually, it made me feel better. Not just for the laugh, but because in retrospect, it makes my old "OC for the sake of it" escapades restrained by comparison.

I laughed sh hard, when I saw Jim's take on the video. My first thought was "Sega, you fools! Do realize what you have done? Now Chris Chan can make Sonichu!" But in all serious, this not necessarily a bad idea. THe worse that can happen is a bunch of lazy character edits, but like someone on the forum just said; Sega is cutting out the middle man on Deviant Art, so at leas we won't have to hear peoples pathetic excuses and talk about how original their characters are. Unless you're on YouTube, but those you can ignore too.

This is basically every deviantart sonic fanartist wet dreams but at the same time annoying them due to some "features" not included in the customization.

Still I'm a sucker for character creation eventhought I don't played that franchise at all.

I already find the jokes exhausting. Character customization in any other game is great, but as soon as it's Sonic, let's all just meme it up because lul Sonic, amirite guys?

And yes, I am being a party pooper. I get that people are just having some "harmless" fun with it, at least some of them, but you know, it's really just tiring to have one of your favorite franchises constantly treated as nothing more than the butt of everyone else's joke even when there's actually something legitimately good to enjoy about it.

But I love Sonic and Character creation.

Given the state of the Sonic fanbase, I can't tell if this move by Sega is incredibly stupid or incredibly brilliant.

I haven't made a Shog the Hedgehog or Shog Prower back in my school days but I'm kinda curious about doing it now that it's going to be a gameplay option in Forces. It's kind of a shame I can't make a crocodile, a chameleon or a Bee and I hope I can change how fat the character can be but if not I'll make do with what's on offer.

I'm not a furry...I'm much too poor to make a fur suit but this is a good enough first step.

As I've been discussing with some friends, I'm excited for this game. Not to play it or anything, Gods no, never did like Sonic. Hated Sonic Adventures 1 and 2.
But I just want to see everything that happens with it.
I had the thought a while ago that Sonic Team should make an MMO where people could make their own X the Y, given how notoriously dedicated the Sonic Fandom is.
"Even better" piped up a friend, "Dragonball Xenoverse but Sonic"
Such ideas we believe should PRINT SONIC TEAM MONEY.

But this isn't those, but it's good enough. So long as it has character creation, every Sonic fan who adores their OC will buy it. Maybe we'll see Coldsteel the Hedgeheg. Maybe we'll see Sonichu in videogame glory as his creator struggles for three hours to get the ears and tail right before throwing his console out because the arms are yellow.
I cannot stress that this could be one of the MOST ENTERTAINING video game releases in a while.
